Lakefront on Cathead Bay with Wood Fired Hot Tub and Barn

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath plus outdoor shower with hot water (Sleeps 8)

Near the very tip of Leelanau, surrounded by forest, state parks and conservancy land. The cottage is just on top of the dunes among beech, birch and pine trees. Take in the view of Lake Michigan and the Fox Islands from the wood-burning hot tub at the end of the wrap-around deck. Perfect for quiet days reading, long hikes, bike riding and star gazing. Sunrises and sunsets are wonderfully colorful. Walk to Leelanau State Park for great dunes and perfect sand beaches or north to Grand Traverse Lighthouse.

Additional outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Newer laundry and kitchen appliances. We love to cook, so we make sure the kitchen is fully functional---good quality pots, knives, and each spring we stock the cabinet with fresh flour, oils, sugar, baking supplies, spices, etc.

The barn includes a ping-pong table and dart board on the second floor. Inside the barn you will also find several bikes and a bike trailer, sails for a Sunfish, two kayaks, a sailboard, the charcoal grill, a badminton set, and life jackets in every size.

Three bedrooms--two have Queen beds and one has two sets of bunk beds/ 4 beds.

Weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday. Check in is 3 p.m. on the first day, and check out is 10 a.m. on the last day when there are people there before or after you.

If you have any questions at all, please ask!

Why Steve Luebkeman chose Northwest

The weather in the summer is perfect, people are nice, and it is not very crowded.

What makes this house unique

The feeling of being secluded. We've spent whole days here and only seen one or two other people. A perfect day begins with a cup of coffee at the kitchen table watching the birds in the bay with a backdrop of the sunrise washing over the spit of land that creates the bay. Depending on the wind, go kayaking or sailing. A hike to the top of the dunes to see Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay at the same time. A good finish to the day is to stoke the hot tub to relax before dinner.

Beautiful Area Away From It All

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay on Cathead Bay. Plenty of room for everyone. Great scenery out the back. It's just 100 ft or so to the private, sandy beach on the bay. Halfway down, there is a great fire pit that we enjoyed every night, while over looking the water. Owner provides an abundant amount of firewood. The barn was full of bikes and kayaks that we were free to use. The barn also had a great work area that I was able to use to fix my son's bike and my wife's SUP.

The location is quite a ways out there. So make sure you have everything you need because come Northport is about 15 minutes away and the only grocery/drug/beer store is closed at 8.

We loved every minute of our stay. My only wish was that I could have brought my Labrador with us. He would have been in heaven.

I would definitely consider returning.

Family place away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at the cabin with our 4 kids. This place is amazing! The pictures don't do justice to the custom craftsmanship in the house, bunkhouse, and barn. The cabin is equipped with anything you could possibly need - the kitchen is a cook's dream - the bunkhouse and barn add even more value. 3 kayaks and more bikes than I could count, a ping-pong table, board games, even a set of old school wooden blocks which my little boys loved.

It's about a 15 minute drive to Northport, a quaint little town, and within an hour of Sleeping Bear dunes, Traverse City, Leland, Sutton's Bay so you can find plenty to do, see, and eat if you want to stay busy, or just chill at the house!

Steve was great, quick to reply from our initial inquiry throughout our week-long stay.

1Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything we had hoped for and more! Quiet location right on the lake with a private beach, but yet not too far into town for dinner & groceries. Steve was always very helpful & very informative. We didn't have any problems at all and had everything we needed for a nice relaxing family getaway. We really enjoyed kayaking out to the lighthouse & hiking up the big sand dunes in the park. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven!

We stated in early June and the weather was perfect. Beautiful views of lake Michigan! The house is well equipped and fit our family perfectly. The wood fired hot tub is the perfect end to the day with views of the lake. You feel all alone up north at this home. The sand dunes down the street are the perfect size for our kids to explore. The beach and cove are the perfect hiding place. We kayaked to the lighthouse and the tip of the peninsula, walked the beach, played on the dunes, and watched the sun set. Perfect place for our family vacation. We will be back.

We stayed in early May, and it was perfect. The weather, too! The setting, the house, area -- everything was perfect. The cabin has everything you need and is very clean. We only used the outdoor shower, which was wonderful. We also loved the hot tub, with the smell of wood-burning fire, not chemicals. The kids had fun figuring out how to use it--not hard. We climbed the dunes down the road every night at sunset. Great exercise and beautiful view. We also enjoyed kayaking here. The cabin would be cozy for eight, but if it rains, the huge barn is set up for ping-pong, with plenty of room, and there is also a cute bunkhouse. The owner made great use of the space, from the pot lid holders built into the cabinets to the hooks everywhere. There are also many thoughtful touches, such as the reading lamps for each bunk bed, even in the bunkhouse. The location is remote, but I loved that. Northport isn't too far away.
