Lakefront on Cathead Bay with Wood Fired Hot Tub and Barn

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath plus outdoor shower with hot water (Sleeps 8)

Near the very tip of Leelanau, surrounded by forest, state parks and conservancy land. The cottage is just on top of the dunes among beech, birch and pine trees. Take in the view of Lake Michigan and the Fox Islands from the wood-burning hot tub at the end of the wrap-around deck. Perfect for quiet days reading, long hikes, bike riding and star gazing. Sunrises and sunsets are wonderfully colorful. Walk to Leelanau State Park for great dunes and perfect sand beaches or north to Grand Traverse Lighthouse.

Additional outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Newer laundry and kitchen appliances. We love to cook, so we make sure the kitchen is fully functional---good quality pots, knives, and each spring we stock the cabinet with fresh flour, oils, sugar, baking supplies, spices, etc.

The barn includes a ping-pong table and dart board on the second floor. Inside the barn you will also find several bikes and a bike trailer, sails for a Sunfish, two kayaks, a sailboard, the charcoal grill, a badminton set, and life jackets in every size.

Three bedrooms--two have Queen beds and one has two sets of bunk beds/ 4 beds.

Weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday. Check in is 3 p.m. on the first day, and check out is 10 a.m. on the last day when there are people there before or after you.

If you have any questions at all, please ask!

Why Steve Luebkeman chose Northwest

The weather in the summer is perfect, people are nice, and it is not very crowded.

What makes this house unique

The feeling of being secluded. We've spent whole days here and only seen one or two other people. A perfect day begins with a cup of coffee at the kitchen table watching the birds in the bay with a backdrop of the sunrise washing over the spit of land that creates the bay. Depending on the wind, go kayaking or sailing. A hike to the top of the dunes to see Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay at the same time. A good finish to the day is to stoke the hot tub to relax before dinner.

Perfect weather

Steve does a great job with the cabin, although one of the chairs was missing. Other than that everything was perfect.

Comfortable private retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house and grounds are well maintained, simple but provided everything needed for peace and solitude in an incredible part of the Michigan shore. Highly recommended.

Perfect Quiet Cabin on Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

The house was a perfect cabin for our family -- parents of 3 active boys. Kayaking, swimming, beaches, bicycling, dune hiking where all either on the property or just down the road. If you're outdoorsy and looking for somewhere quiet to relax and have fun, this is a great fit.

Had a great time my kids were never bored. The hot tub was a big hit they were in it all the time they kayaked every day even my granddaughter kayaked and there was some good sized waves. Did the dunes down the road and the beach at the end of the road. Road bikes to the lighthouse had a fire in the fireplace a couple nights as it was cool from the winds the house was very clean kitchen well stocked with pots and pans. We found the mattresses to hard for us and also the couch and chair cushions are like sitting on a board new ones would be great. Steve is great very helpful with my questions. My kids said we have to go back next year. Oh and also a swing on the deck that would be perfect. Loved it thank you so much for sharing your house

Beautiful Area Away From It All

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay on Cathead Bay. Plenty of room for everyone. Great scenery out the back. It's just 100 ft or so to the private, sandy beach on the bay. Halfway down, there is a great fire pit that we enjoyed every night, while over looking the water. Owner provides an abundant amount of firewood. The barn was full of bikes and kayaks that we were free to use. The barn also had a great work area that I was able to use to fix my son's bike and my wife's SUP.

The location is quite a ways out there. So make sure you have everything you need because come Northport is about 15 minutes away and the only grocery/drug/beer store is closed at 8.

We loved every minute of our stay. My only wish was that I could have brought my Labrador with us. He would have been in heaven.

I would definitely consider returning.
