This house is conveniently located at 606 Bayberry Walk straight down from the ferry on the bayside of Midway Walk. The island is only two blocks wide at this point.

The living room is large with a fireplace, cathedral ceiling, and kitchen with island counter - great for entertaining. Sundeck, outdoor shower and gas barbecue grill. Full bath has tub and shower, second bath has stall shower. Two bedrooms have a twin over full bed and two bedrooms have built-in bunk beds (30' x 77').

The interior was totally remodeled and complete in May 2013.

Fire Island is nine miles off the coast of Southern Long Island. It is convenient to the city and all the attractions of Long Island. Once on the beach, the relaxation begins. The island has no cars. Residents get around by bicycle and use red wagons to carry groceries. The unhurried pace will add years to your life!

About Bill Hons

I bought this beach house in 1981 when I was still single, in partnership with my late Dad, who had learned to walk in the narrow hallway of what is now my sister's house, Winona, next door.

Why Bill Hons chose Fire Island

Five generations of our family have been enjoying Fire Island since Dad's Brooklyn NY family discovered it right after the Great Depression. That was before modern plumbing and even electricity was in Ocean Beach.

What makes this house unique

Son of Old Paint is located very conveniently close to the ferry and still close enough to the beach. Although the rooms are small, this house has an extremely efficient floor plan and can actually sleep 10 in their own beds with four of those beds large enough for two.

Perfect house, great location!

Stayed here with 5 adults and two kids. House was immaculate! Small but awesome lay out - maximized how many can sleep there! Perfect location, centered between ferry and beach. I hope to be back again!

Great House, Great Owners

My friends and I rented Son of Old Paint for a few weeks at the end of summer 2016. Perfect house in a great town. Bill was such a great host and had everything set up perfectly before we arrived. He was always available when we had questions or needed help as well. I definitely recommend this house and will surely be going back again!!

Great House!

My friends and I rented here for the first time this year and the experience was fantastic! The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. House was beautiful! Not to mention clean, and in the perfect location. Grill, outdoor shower and Bluetooth speaker were an added bonus! We would love to go back!! :)

Just steps away from the ferry and less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. The owner is very nice and was available via email/text/phone during our stay. We cannot wait to go back!

Can't wait to go back!!

I had never been to Fire Island, and this past Memorial Day my group of 8 close friends decided to make the trip. We lucked out and found this house on Bayberry – the house was perfect, everything was spotless when we arrived. The bedrooms were a little small, but since the beds were bunked we had no problems (and who wants to stay inside during the summer anyway). We BBQed on the back porch, spent most of the time on the beach (which is literally a 5 minute walk) and enjoyed the Ocean Beach shops and restaurants (a 2 minute walk). The renovations, stainless steel appliances and living room are beautiful – felt like home! Everyone’s favorite thing was the outdoor shower – hot water and good pressure (better than my New York City apartment shower)… It was also great to have a washer and dryer on premise. The owner was super nice and friendly – available to answer any questions we had. Everyone in my party had such a wonderful time; we are already looking to book our next trip back to the island. 'Son of Old Paint' will always be our first choice of accommodation!

Check-In is after 3PM on Tuesdays and Check-Out is before 9 AM on Mondays.
Weekly rates (six nights, seven days) are $2700 in June, $3300 in July, and $3600 in August. Add $400 for Memorial Day or July 4th weeks.
Monthly rentals are $8,000 in June, $12,000 in July, and $14,000 in August.
A full season rental, May 25th to September 4th 2018, is offered for $28,000

A signed lease and 10% non-refundable deposit will secure your rental period unless it is within four weeks of the intended occupancy. The rental amount, damage deposit and all fees are paid in full prior to occupancy and are required at least four weeks in advance. We do not currently accept credit card payments.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
