Quaint experience in the mountains with our family
We loved the chalet. It was quaint and perfect for our family vacation - well appointed and conveniently located near Durango and lots of surrounding activities. One thing we particularly loved was the altitude at this chalet is < 7000 feet so if you have any family members who tend to suffer altitude sickness this is a perfect situation to meet the old saying "climb high, sleep low". We did hikes and day trips above 9000 feet but being able to come back to the chalet and sleep below 7000 ft was very helpful. There is an amazing hiking area directly off the property as well.
Secluded, yet close to town
We stayed in this Chalet while visiting our son in Durango the week between Christmas and New Year's. The chalet was located just outside of town, but had an isolated country feel. My son and his pup stayed with us and he had a less than 10 minute ride to work on Main St. We enjoyed every bit of this home; I'd love to rent it again in the summer to enjoy the deck and screened in porch.
Thanks Lori for the great review on the Chalet! I hope to be able to welcome you and your family back to the Chalet or one of our other five homes along County Road 250 in the not too distant future.
Very best wishes for a happy, healthy 2018!
Wonderful winter retreat
The chalet was spacious, extremely clean and had all the amenities needed for our weeklong stay. Our children especially loved having the upstairs loft and bedroom to themselves.
The large windows in the main living area offered a beautiful view of the mountains, and we enjoyed exploring and hiking around the property.
The chalet offers a sense of seclusion while still being close to town.
While the lack of snowfall limited some of our planned activities, we were able to make many memories during day trips to Ouray and Pagosa Springs and a ride on the Polar Express.
We do much fun, we are already talking about planning another visit.
Thanks Chris for the very nice review on the Chalet. I'm happy to hear you and your family had such a great time in Durango. I'll look fowardr to welcoming you back in the not too distant future!
All the best in the New Year!
Thoroughly enjoyed our three-week stay!
We found The Chalet to be as described in the VRBO listing, and we would recommend this property. Lana Swearingin, the owner lives nearby and was very prompt and helpful when we contacted her. Property is clean and well maintained, the kitchen is fairly well equipped, and the master bedroom is large with plenty of closet space, and the king bed is quite comfortable. The location of this property is excellent...to quote the locals, it's "up the valley, east of the Animas." It's less than 10 minutes to downtown. There's a good grocery store (Gourmet Market) about 5 miles to the north of the property, and a wonderful golf course (Dalton Ranch) is right next to the grocery.
We did a bit of hiking during our stay, and getting to trail heads, either near Durango or to the north toward Silverton, was easy as highway 550 was nearby. We cooked many of our meals at the Chalet, but we did enjoy dining at Eolus and the Mahogany Grille, which is in the Strater Hotel. Also, the bar in the Strater has the best happy hour in Durango! The Durango to Silverton train is a must do, it's a great experience and the scenery is spectacular! We'd recommend taking the train from Durango to Silverton, and taking the bus back from Silverton to Durango.
All in all, we were very satisfied with the Chalet, and we had a totally wonderful time enjoying Durango and all it has to offer!
Thanks for the lovely review Frank and Cathy! You were wonderful guests and I hope to be able to welcome you back to the Chalet or one of our other homes along CR 250 in the future. All the best,
The perfect romantic getaway
The home was exactly as described and we were very comfortable there. All the amenities we needed (and then some) were available. We enjoyed perfect solitude, far removed from the hustle & bustle of a hotel, yet were geographically close to town for a night out.
We look forward to doing this again with you!
Thanks Kevin for the very nice review on the Chalet. I will look forward to welcoming you and your wife back to the Chalet or one of our other homes along County Road 250 in the near future. Until then.... all the best! Lana
Our Durango chalet met our high expectations with
We adorned the chalet's quaintness and privacy. We loved rhe towering cliffs in our backyard and the easy access to historial downtown Durango. The stay was exceptional and we will definitely look forward to another stay in the perfect vacation hamlet!
