Thoroughly enjoyed our three-week stay!

  • 5 of 5

We found The Chalet to be as described in the VRBO listing, and we would recommend this property. Lana Swearingin, the owner lives nearby and was very prompt and helpful when we contacted her. Property is clean and well maintained, the kitchen is fairly well equipped, and the master bedroom is large with plenty of closet space, and the king bed is quite comfortable. The location of this property is quote the locals, it's "up the valley, east of the Animas." It's less than 10 minutes to downtown. There's a good grocery store (Gourmet Market) about 5 miles to the north of the property, and a wonderful golf course (Dalton Ranch) is right next to the grocery.

We did a bit of hiking during our stay, and getting to trail heads, either near Durango or to the north toward Silverton, was easy as highway 550 was nearby. We cooked many of our meals at the Chalet, but we did enjoy dining at Eolus and the Mahogany Grille, which is in the Strater Hotel. Also, the bar in the Strater has the best happy hour in Durango! The Durango to Silverton train is a must do, it's a great experience and the scenery is spectacular! We'd recommend taking the train from Durango to Silverton, and taking the bus back from Silverton to Durango.

All in all, we were very satisfied with the Chalet, and we had a totally wonderful time enjoying Durango and all it has to offer!

The perfect romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

The home was exactly as described and we were very comfortable there. All the amenities we needed (and then some) were available. We enjoyed perfect solitude, far removed from the hustle & bustle of a hotel, yet were geographically close to town for a night out.

We look forward to doing this again with you!

Wonderful seclusion!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was beautiful and secluded, yet easily accessible. The property was very clean, which is huge for us. The outdoor patio had a very nice grill, so we cooked almost every night and ate outside. They had a very helpful guidebook, with great recommendations on everything, from restaurants to activities to services. The owners were very responsive to our initial inquiry, and check-in/check-out was a breeze. Our only (and I mean only) critique was that the water pressure was very low in the shower, even if we had no other water running in the house. Enjoy your stay!!!

Durango Mountain Chalet

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I vacationed two weeks at this fabulous chalet retreat. The description was very accurate, very clean, good service from the owner and had everything we needed. The weather was superb for a lot of cycling, hiking at Junction Creek and Animas Mt., and a day trip to Ouray. The chalet is about a 6 minute drive to downtown Durango where we dined at several great restaurants! A couple of evenings we fired up steaks on the gas grill on the patio which was great. We are not shoppers except I bought a long sleeve t-shirt. The chalet is very convenient to fabulous bike riding on CR 250. I would highly recommend this property to rent!
