I only want the owner (Heather) to know this information so she can improve the cabin. Great location, nice kayak's, nice outdoor gas grill and outdoor fireplace. The cabin needs to be cleaned i.e. cob webs, dirty windows and window sills, the dishes and flatware are worth replacing and to find a better way to store. I had to wash all items before using. The mattress and linens in the large bedroom should be burned along with the filthy blankets; I didn't chance the bunk beds; we slept in our clothes. The hot tub was broke and the blow-up replacement was not acceptable. Broken windows need to be replaced. The floors looked dirty; I didn't bother cleaning them. There was no iron or ironing board. Overall we made the best of the week and we had beautiful weather. I have to question the recent reviews as they helped me make a poor decision and when Heather said the cabin was priced in line with similar cabins in the area we found several that were well maintained and less expensive. I do not want anything from Heather I only want the cabin cleaned and items replaced for others who were looking for a getaway not to experience the subpar conditions my wife and I experienced. Maybe VRBO can find a better way of vetting their clients.
Stay in Alden
The check in process wasn’t clear. Had to call owners to see if there was a code or process to check in. Cabin wasn’t bad the porch area was nice. The cabin was not as clean as I would have expected. The beds need updated/upgraded very old and uncomfortable. The site lists items that were not there such as hairdryer and misc items that aren’t available. The cabin sleeps six and said linens were provided and we had 3 towels for 5 people. Thankfully we had brought our beach towels, quite annoying when you have to go to laundry because of this. We had a power outage for almost 24 hours and were only contacted after we called the owners. Only suggestion was to go to Traverse City. It was not the greatest suggestion considering no one had showered . The cabin was ok and had a beautiful setting on Thayer Lake. My son and husband enjoyed fishing and had a good time. Overall a decent vacation doubtful that we’d return considering the cost of cabin and lack of amenities.
The cabin was very unique. Plenty of room for our family of 4. Thayer Lake is a nice quiet lake. The use of the kayaks and canoe were a great plus. Spent lots of time fishing. The sun room was nice and the a.c. kept it cool on the very warm and humid days. The short walk across the street to the public access to Torch Lake was great. No one was ever there and the water was beautiful and refreshing. Heather answered all my questions quickly and thoroughly. I would stay here again.
Cabin on Thayer Lake
It's a great cabin and location! Very clean and all the comforts of home
Cozy and warm.
The cabin was exactly as described!
We had a great weekend! Enjoyed the hot tub, bon fire pit and kayaks!
Rustic Cabin in Beautiful, Quiet Lake
We stayed with our son, daughter-in-law and grandson. The cabin is a bit tight for 5, but we spent most of our time outside, enjoying the lake and the amenities available. The bathroom is very small, the shower is tight. The kitchen could use some updates, but provided the basics, a cooktop, refridgerator and sink. Pots, pans, dishes and utensils are provided. I would recommend bringing an extra kitchen towel or two. They do provide linens and bath towels. You need to bring beach towels. Also, bring extra TP and paper towels. The glass/plexiglass ceiling in the sitting area is really nice, just needs to be squeegied!
The best part is the little beach on the lake where you can sit and relax. There are tons of toys, so our 3 year old grandson was in heaven, building sand castles and splashing in the lake. Thayer Lake is a quiet, no wake lake, and we made use of the kayaks, canoe and small boat. The boys fished while the girls enjoyed the opportunity to float and relax.
If you are looking for a place to just turn off the world - you can certainly do it here. The wifi worked well. We will definitely go back Up North!
