House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)
WELCOME TO SIDEWAYS IN SEWANEE! Now reserving for 2018!
Sideways is a RUSTIC, but quaint little 3 bedroom, 1 bath house right smack in the middle of campus (the University of the South campus, that is). It's a 115 year old gem of a cottage whose poor old bones just aren't as straight as they once were.
While a bit crooked it may be, it definitely won't let you down when it comes to offering you relaxation on a budget and a great location to reconnect with alumni and friends! It's located within walking distance to the local coffee shop (Stirling's) and the local bar (Shenanigan's), as well as countless hiking trails, golf and tennis courts, lakes for fishing, and just about every University building.
It is NOT the Hilton. It's far from it. This is an OLD house that is used as a vacation home on many weekends by the owners and their spouses and looks more like a casual old vacation cabin than a fancy bed and breakfast, so please set your expectations accordingly. Think crooked floors, drafty windows, occasionally a tad musty, but with a great set of porches. If you like camping in a tent, this is one step above that! We DON'T HAVE CABLE, so plan to watch the games from Shenanigan's, Blue Chair or the Inn. The inside looks like a box of Crayola Crayons exploded there (see photos). It was that way when we bought it many years ago and every time we think of painting it something more normal, somebody comes in and tells us we're crazy. We are starting to think maybe they are the crazy ones, but for now, prepare to wear your sunglasses inside...it's bright!
Also, it's in a WOODED area, so while it will be clean and fresh when you arrive, there is always a chance that a little bug or daddy long legs could wander in. If this kind of thing makes you queasy and sends you running to a therapist, then no hard feelings, but this probably isn't the house for you. You probably landed here because it was the least expensive option you saw, so know that there are plenty of other more expensive houses in the area on VRBO that will satisfy those with more of a Kardashian lifestyle. Don't get us wrong, Sideways is cute, it just ain't fancy. :)
Please EMAIL (don't call) for specific questions regarding renting. If we need to talk by phone, that's not a problem, but we will respond much faster by email (somebody helps us with that). Renting is allowed for University sponsored events only (if you have a question about that, just email us). Pricing is $250 per night with a 2-night minimum except during Commencement/Graduation each year. Due to the high demand, the rate for Commencement is $2100 flat rate for minimum 6 nights/7 days.
WE REQUIRE A TWO-NIGHT MINIMUM STAY.
The property is located at 121 Palmetto Ave, Sewanee, TN 37375.

Zach Goodyear and Scott Evans are business partners and at Parks Real Estate Services in Nashville, TN. They both graduated from Sewanee and own the house together with their families.
Owner purchased this House in 2006
Why Owner chose Sewanee
You can't beat a week or weekend in Sewanee. You'll leave feeling stress free and ready to come back again soon! It's a good family getaway or a couples retreat. Again, it's not fancy, but it's a rustic cabin close to everything. That's why we love it.
What makes this House unique
Eating at Shenanigan's, Crust, Ivy Wild, and The Blue Chair. Hiking (the bookstore has a great book called 'Go Take A Hike' that is cheap and shows all of the great hikes in the area - pick up a copy when you're there!). If you're into high adventure, the Ocoee river is a decent drive, but doable. We don't rock climb, but for people who do there are apparently some good sites around. We don't have cable but do have some VHS tapes to watch if you want to relive the good ole days.
Sports & Adventure Activities
We had a great stay-decor was very cute and the house and everything we needed!
Quirky in the best of ways!
The hilarious full-disclosure from the owners was spot on. Yes, the floor slants and the feel is rustic; however, it is very well appointed and incredibly comfortable and cozy.
I cooked dinner for my son and 7 of his friends and we had everything we needed to pull of four hours of eating and visiting.
The location is perfect - truly convenient to all things domain.
My only regret is that my son graduates in a few months - if only we’d found this gem of a home four years ago - we would have stayed here every visit!
Great location, peaceful!
Had a great time visiting with family and our son that goes to Sewanee.
Grilled out and hung out on the porches. Beds were comfy. They had everything we needed except tv for football.
Exactly as described!
Humble and old. It's a far stretch from the Taj, but so is Sewanee. Such a great location on campus that we walked almost everywhere! We'll definitely be back.
It was great!
Perfect for a weekend at Sewanee.
House was exactly as advertised.
We had a good time--house exactly fit our needs. Only area of improvement is the driveway: it was in need of a grading. I was in a truck, but if I was in a small car, the unevenness of the drive would have proven a challenge.
