Private Wine Country Estate with Vineyards, Pool and Spa

Bedrooms 5
Space 3,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Approaching on a winding private drive lined with ancient live oaks, its own vineyard of mature zinfandel grapes to the right, guests arrive at this soulful estate magically sited on 8 acres overlooking Bennett Valley, just minutes from the famed Valley of the Moon and the amenities of Santa Rosa.

There are about 3 level acres and 5 acres of wooded trails, creeks, and exploration. If you and your group appreciate privacy, and “artisan luxury”, we think you will love our house and grounds.

Tall glass walls offer light and views of the natural gardens, vineyard, and fruit orchard, while relaxing in contemporary luxury. The lower level of the home features slate and maple flooring, ancient fir beams, an open living room with hearth and woodstove, spacious dining, Mexican tile kitchen, and a great room with stone fireplace, entertainment kitchen and French doors leading to outdoor deck, expansive, level lawn. Two of the five bedrooms are on the lower level. Make your way across the lawn and there, tucked into a private benched terrace surrounded by a woodland grove, lies an artful pool with stone spa and large patio area.

Cascade stairs lead to the second floor balcony overlooking cathedral ceiling living room. A master bedroom with skylights, King bed and room to spare, a large private bedroom with Queen bed and views of the valley, a loft bedroom for 2, especially fun for kids. The second floor bath has a fabulous Victorian claw foot tub and shower, mosiac tiles and lots of room for candles and music!

This is not a party house. We do not allow events of parties of any kind. Sorry!

great thanksgiving getaway

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic time with extended family over 5 day Thanksgiving. The place is warm and inviting. Hot tub was a real centerpiece. Deer and turkeys often spotted. Very functional. Large kitchen, great beds.

Amazing and wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

The girls had a great trip to Pat's incredible abode. Spacious, comfortable, unique, stylish and beautiful grounds! Was more than we expected and we loved the privacy at the end of the road. The pool was freezing but lovely, matched with the hot tub was perfect. Could have used a few more lounge chairs but we floated in the water. 2 kitchens was great for prep and dinner time. Grilled out as well, and had a circle yoga session on the back lawn! We didn't leave the house once we got there as we brought what we needed and the house had the rest.

Lots of bees, nature doing it's thing... made it impossible to eat outside but we accepted it.

Got super chilly at night so the fire place and pellet stove were perfect.

Could have used a way to play music in the house- we never found a stereo or option- luckily we had out own jam boxes- but would have been nice.

highly recommend this place.

Great Rental Experience

  • 5 of 5

My family, friends and I absolutely loved this rental. It was very easy to check in and out, and the instructions Pat left were extremely helpful. The house is about 10-15 minutes away from downtown Santa Rosa, and very close to several wineries. The house had a great deal of space and we never felt like we were overcrowded, even when everyone was in the same room. We did not use the pool but it looked nice and well-kept. I would highly suggest this rental property to anyone spending time in Napa and Sonoma!

Great stay in the Sonoma Valley

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family stayed here for a week and had a great vacation! The home had places for all of us to rest and relax after outings in the area, with nearby excursions to wineries, ziplining, the ocean, and Santa Rosa. The house's countryside setting made for fun times in the pool and spa. The city is a short 12 minutes away, so the location is pretty good. Our family highly recommends a stay here!

Fantastic property and relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this great property. Fun house with a lot of character, with very comfortable beds. We had a great time having dinner and sitting out on the back deck, and our kids loved the pool and backyard. The owner was very nice and responsive. We would certainly consider renting again here in the future.

Beautiful Santa Rosa Retreat

  • 4 of 5

The house and grounds are beautiful - artistic and well maintained. The pool (with noodles!) was much larger than expected and fit our 10 guests comfortably as was the house - which has many spaces for groups to gather or hang out. We brought some lawn games and enjoyed playing them in the expansive backyard.

We did happen to stay on a warm weekend where the weather was consistently over 90F during the day - the house does not have any air conditioning! There are several fans and huge sliding door windows that create a nice cross breeze on the first floor, but sleeping may be difficult for anyone elderly or sensitive to heat - it sure was for us.

The kitchen is quite large as well with two areas for preparation. There are a ton of extra towels and sheets.

The listing is slightly outdated in that you cannot access the garage for any games. In addition, the owner has a tenant on the property who lives above the garage. They do not manage the property nor do they interact with guests in anyway - but they were noticeable. We could hear the tenant and their friends at night, talking & playing music, etc. In addition, some of the tenant's guests took up some of the parking - which caused us to play a little bit of tetris with our vehicles. Nothing too big of a deal - just full disclosure for anyone who may be looking for complete privacy or silence. Apparently the tenant offers massages, though, so they may be your new best friend!

The wifi was definitely spotty in service but if you were determined to connect, it's possible! I would totally recommend this house to friends or family looking for a rustic getaway - away from the internet. The house is clean and comfortable and very close to all that Sonoma County has to offer. Check in and check out were very easy.

About Patrick O'Brien

We are a family of four who live in San Francisco, and we bought the property in 2008 to have a very accessible weekend getaway for us and our two boys.

Patrick O'Brien purchased this house in 2008

Why Patrick O'Brien chose Santa Rosa

We bought this property because the minute we arrived, the sense of being in the country, in nature, and of becoming utterly relaxed, hit us. While the main grounds are quite well maintained, the fact that the property also has creeks and trails, frogs, a huge seesaw and ropeswing, and hundreds of oaks, was very appealing to my boys and me for exploring and getting dirty.

What makes this house unique

very tranquil and peaceful and still, but if you need to you can hop in the car, and zip to a Safeway and a Starbucks for a couple things in ten minutes.

We are located in Bennett Valley, rural and secluded, yet only 5 miles from downtown Santa Rosa and great restaurants and Whole Foods. There is wine tasting a mile from the house at Matanzas Creek Winery, golf 3 miles away at Bennett valley Golf Course, and Hiking Trails and Creeks on and around the property.

We are very close to Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Healdsburg, and many wineries, as well as Annadell State Park, Sebastopol, Bodega Bay, and the Russian River.
