Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, beautiful mountain views, secluded but close to town

Twin Mountain Cabin is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 2,700 square foot secluded home located in historic Upper Canyon at the top of the hill with beautiful views of Sierra Blanca and Capitan Mountains. The Lincoln National Forest is 20 feet out the back if you and the family want to take a little walk in the woods. You can see deer, turkey, hummingbirds and occasionally you will see elk and bear. Children should be accompanied in the forest.

The King Bedrooms, Great Room, Dining Room and back deck have wonderful views of Sierra Blanca. The front deck has a beautiful view of Capitan and is sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon. The Master Suite has a king bed, office and bath. There are TV’s in all the bedrooms and a big screen HDTV in the Great Room, all connected to cable. There is a DVD also. There are games available for the whole family to enjoy and of course, there is the computer and printer in a separate location. The fully equipped kitchen is huge and will accommodate lots of cooks. There is a baby crib, washer and dryer, iron and ironing board and gas grill provided.

The cabin is one level with 14 steps coming up from the 2 car garage. There is a graduated gravel walk with railing from the garage up to the front door that has only 2 steps into the house. The third bathroom has a tall boy toilet with handicapped rails and the shower is a step in with hand holds. The doors and walkways throughout the house would accommodate a wheel chair.

Activities: Our cabin is minutes from the famous Ruidoso shopping district, restaurants, grocery stores, 15 minutes from the Inn of the Mountain Gods, 20 minutes from Ski Apache and Lake Bonita which has designated hiking trails. There is a Fun Tracker (go carts, water rides, cliff climbing, etc) 15 minutes away and for the smaller children there are pony rides about 15 minutes away. A Super Wal-Mart and The Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Billy the Kid Casino is about 20 minutes to the East and you can purchase general admission, or Turf Club and Jockey Club seats reasonably. Check out: Spencer Theater of Performing Arts. Mountain Annies Riversong Theater, Flying J Ranch (western show and chuck wagon dinner), lots of Art Galleries and the McGary Foundary.

You can take a day trip to old Lincoln (antique historical museums/homes where Jesse James roamed) and Capitan (home of Smokey the Bear). Another day trip: Alamogordo (New Mexico Museum of Space History with I-Max Theater and White Sands) and Cloud Croft (great shopping, eating and The Lodge where Cary Grant and Judy Garland stayed). Grindstone Lake is 15 minutes from the cabin if you like to fish. There are several public golf courses. We recommend you check with the Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce to see what activities are happening in town.

We get rave reviews from our guests and know that you and your family will enjoy your stay so much that you will return year after year like many of our guests.

About Joe Christian

We love Ruidoso, and consider it our second home! Our first home is in Oklahoma, and we love to get away to the coolness and solitude of Upper Canyon. Joe first visited Ruidoso with his family in the early '50s, and Judy made her first trip sometime in the '70s.

Joe Christian purchased this house in 2005

Why Joe Christian chose New Mexico

We bought our first home in Ruidoso in 1996. We were out driving around Ruidoso one day and ended up at a lot with a For Sale sign high in the hills above Upper Canyon. When we climbed the hill and saw the view, we knew we had to build here.

Judy and I sat down with an architect in front of his computer and designed this home ourselves. It was completed in 2005.

What makes this house unique

The home backs up to the national forest, and is visited daily by deer and turkey. An occasional bear and elk will come by. It's very secluded, but only minutes from shopping, casinos, and skiing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Year #10 has come and gone. It hardly seems possible! We have loved every minute of it. We had our entire family this year and, due to some new additions we had to rent another home. It was on Alhambra just a short walk away. Each year we leave, planning for “next year.” What a great blessing and privilege to be able to come here at such a special time. We are truly thankful. Hope the coming Christmas season and New Year are very prosperous and blessed. God willing, we’ll see you next year.

Amazing place. We didn't want to leave.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year at this home and couldn't wait to get back to it. There were 6 of us (3 couples) and we each had our privacy but plenty of room to get together and enjoy the view. The kitchen, cookware, dishes, everything you could ever want and duplicates in some instances. A cook's delight. Since we knew we had a wonderful kitchen, we stocked up and did most of our meals together at the house. The view is spectacular and the privacy is unmatched. Hope to stay again. Don't think it would be possible to find a more perfect place in Ruidoso to enjoy the town, the shopping and most importantly the mountains and serenity. Great Job Joe!

Perfect mountain vacation for our family!

  • 5 of 5

This home is perfect for a family vacation! Spacious, homey, and wonderful mountain and forest views. There were 6 in our group (2 couples, and 2 singles); we each had our own bedroom which is splendid. The backyard is National Forest and nice for hiking up the mountain. We saw many mule deer, wild turkey, and many hummingbirds at the feeders. It is secluded and quiet. It takes no more than 5 minutes, and you are on the main street of town. You do have to walk up to the cabin, either by the outside gravel walkway or through the garage stairs; my 96 year old mother was able to do it with assistance of 1, but it was a bit tiring for her.

All in all, we enjoyed it tremendously! I would recommend this cabin for family and friend vacations!

Wonderful, relaxing stay at Twin Mountain, Ruidoso, NM

  • 5 of 5

Twin Mountain is a beautiful, unique property! It is very clean and furnished with lovely furniture and decor that would suit everyone's comfort and needs. The bedrooms, kitchen, and living areas are planned to give more than adequate space and privacy. Outside, the deck gives a beautiful view of the Lincoln National Forest that abounds with turkeys, deer, and hummingbirds that capture your attention to enjoy the wonders of nature. I cannot say enough about how this property provided a perfect setting for our vacation. The owner was very diligent about seeing that we had everything we needed.
