Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the wonderful stay here at this quaint little cabin off the beaten path. It was lovely to relax and so peaceful and quiet. We had a wonderful time here. It was wonderful to have a fully furnished kitchen and the decorations are so unique and makes it feel so cozy. We took the trip to see the sheep and it was beautiful. We also saw elk, deer and a moose. Thanks for the great hospitality. This place really fit our budget which we were so grateful for. Our 1 year anniversary was great thanks to this little place.

a special place

  • 5 of 5

While driving to the cabin I got a terrible toothache and sent Fred the owner an email about a dentist. He came back quickly with a recommendation, who saw me right away, and saved the trip from that pain. I say this only to tell about how helpful and attentive Fred is.

But the best, aside from nature’s beauty, is the way the cabin is outfitted. Everything you need! But it is decorated with so many unique photos, art, and artifacts that all reflect the culture and history of the locale, down to the moose decorated shower curtain. The books, the art, and artifacts show a love and respect for that culture and history, and make the cabin a really unique and wonderful place to stay. We enjoyed coming back to it every night.

Owner's Response: Peter It was a pleasure to point you in the right direction especially with a painful dental situation. We should than Dr. Sheridan for taking you immediately. I like to call him a good buddy. Hey thanks so much for the compliments on the decorating on our cozy Historical Tiehack cabin. My talented former wife has a great feel & love of the area. Even wrote a novel called The Wind River Trolls. Quite the history in Dubois way back in the Tiehack era. The Tiehack cabin is one of the last few remaining. Best to you. Hospitality is in our DNA. All the Best Fred

A huge difference between simplistic and dirty

  • 1 of 5

HUGELY disappointed! Old water rings on the end table, sticky dust by the TV, dead bugs in the bedroom, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom, open food containers in the fridge, the pillows were literally brown with age and who knows what else. Just yuck. The only bed was arranged awkwardly, pushed against the wall so my husband had to get in bed first and scoot over. Read the fine print. At first glance it says it is air conditioned, but if you click on it, it says air conditioned by nature. Note to author: that means there is no air conditioning! Wild fires made practical accessibility impossible. The owner verbally agreed to a refund for the days we couldn't stay, then reneged and didn't answer my inquiries when we got home. Wifi didn't really work either. The home was hard to find. I had to call the owner to get the address/directions, but there was no address on the house that was visible. We had to go by the pictures, which was hard considering we got in very late. Honestly, if it hadn't been the middle of the night when we finally got there, I would have left and found somewhere else to stay. It was that gross. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

This was the first time I used Home Away and I'm really hesitant to use it again. Extremely disappointed.

Owner's Response: Nature caused this vacation guest to return home after a short few hours at our adorable & historical Tiehack cabin. The Greater Yellowstone eco system including Dubois, Wyoming had a tough 2016 fire season which in some cases caused tourists to reroute their driving. Many of our local families where displaced and many others provided housing for those that had to be evacuated. Terrific community spirit. In a conversation with the guest I suggested wonderful areas near Dubois to visit and routes to avoid the fires and still connect up with Yellowstone where there were no fires. Shoshone & Bridger Teton National Forests connect directly to Great Yellowstone eco system and are as wonderful as Yellowstone itself as I suggested to this guest and all other guests. Our vacation rental associates enjoy providing tips on where to go to enjoy all the local outdoor activities. I'm disappointed for our housekeepers who pride themselves on providing excellent service and hospitality on our Dubois vacation rentals as is viewed on all our Excellent reviews. Folks love all adorable Tiehack cabin. Routinely after our housekeeper reported it appeared the Tiehack cabin had not been occupied immediately we refunded the damage deposit. Upon learning the guest was departing immediately I offered to apply their current rental to a future time at no cost to them. Hospitality & courtesy & working hard for our guests is of utmost importance to our housekeeping staff & myself. Certainly disappointing when you reach out to guests that end up creating a baseless negative review. Fred

Loved the area and the owner Fred stopped by to check in! We had a good stay, nice shops and restaurants in Dubois. A bit of a drive to the national parks, but we booked late so we got lucky to get something in Dubois.

Cozy Cabin by the Creek

  • 4 of 5

This is a great little rustic cabin, built around 1935. It's in a perfect location for walking into the fun, quirky town of Dubois and an easy drive to the magnificent Grand Tetons. The creek-side deck is perfect for morning coffee, afternoon drinks, or an evening BBQ. The Wi-Fi and TV work great but need updated instructions. The cabin could use some refreshing in the kitchen such as mugs that aren't chipped and chairs that aren't wobbly but all in all it's well-equipped, clean, and cozy. Fred was very responsive.
