About Po and Eric Powell
Our family has lived on the island for over 30 years. We built this home as a team and love the quiet location where we can hear the tide rushing by from the deck and all sorts of birds calling.
Po and Eric Powell purchased this House in 2002
Why Po and Eric Powell chose Friday Harbor
Kanaka Bay is situated between the University of Washington Marine Preserve at False Bay and the rugged West side waters of San Juan. A little of everything. Look it up on Google earth and see why we bought this property.
What makes this House unique
Herons, Eagles crying and building their nearby nest, quiet, deer everywhere, fox, quail, sunrises and sunsets with a pink glow of the Olympic Mountains. Freighter traffic. Mt. Rainer from the kitchen window. Open views and lots of sun. Moon rises and sets.

Very good communication, clear instructions, reminder about the ferry. Great hosts thanks very much
House was in excellent condition, well stocked with many small items that we wouldn't think should be here but were. There were very clear indications about what we could use and could not. Area is excellent, I like the side of the island the best, couldn't have been better
The family all loved the house. It was nice and secluded. The owners were very accommodating
The house was well equipped
Everything was perfect
The house was even better than expected. Quiet beautiful grounds and lots of eagles, foxes, raccoons, herons and other birds. Kitchen was great and made it easy to prepare meals for a large group. The house was roomy and laid out nicely so we weren't crowded together. The downstairs bedrooms are a plus so people could go to bed if they wanted and not be disturbed by the people upstairs. The outside deck was really great giving us a view of the water and the eagle's nest. I would definitely recommend this house.
Wonderful and private.
Great vacation house for families. Lots of privacy, and area for kids to play. The view from the house is better than expected. In the afternoons a cool breeze off the water was our air conditioning. Great fire pit for marshmallow roasting. Po Powell was very hospitable, fresh flowers greeted us upon arrival and our deposit was promptly returned. This is definitely a place we will consider staying next year as well.
Beautiful property! Beautiful home! Beautiful location!
We absolutely loved staying at this house for our family vacation to the San Juans. The house was amazing - especially for our children- they loved the hobbit room and especially loved playing with the foxes outside. The house was very clean and everything was in perfect working order. We would love to stay again.
What a fabulous home!
We rented this house for a family reunion/vacation for 9 of us ranging in age from 12 - 70. We all loved the house, with its beautiful view of the Bay, abundant wildlife sightings and the large great room where we could all hang out together. We found all of the rooms comfortable and the aesthetics, including the many wonderful quilts, very warm and welcoming. It was very clean and well maintained, with lots of helpful hints on things to do on the island. I would definitely recommend this place.
Loved hosting you! Wonderful guests!!
San Juan Island has been voted the #1 tourist destination in the United States for 2013 by numerous vacation companies. Our 2 national parks are extraordinary and the pods of Orca whales that can be seen daily make this an excellent destination for travelers.
