About Tom & Diane Doyle
Property is owned by Tom and Diane Doyle.
Tom & Diane Doyle purchased this Cabin in 2000
Why Tom & Diane Doyle chose Honor
We bought this old cabin because it was suitable for our large family and is located on a very quiet, safe lake surrounded by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. We enjoy being close to the Lake Michigan shoreline as well as the abundant wildlife that is ever present around the area.
What makes this Cabin unique
Quite private and surrounded by woods along the shoreline of Long Lake right off M-22. Well back from the road.

Great location and wonderful lake!
Thank you for the review. Short and sweet! The lake is fairly small so not ideal for speed boats or Jet Skis but perfect for SUP's, Kayaks and quiet water. The water is much warmer than the surrounding lakes and is very good for swimming.
The property was ideal for our family and pup. It is isolated, well off the road, and shaded for hot days. The beach was nice for the kids and the water was much warmer than Lake Michigan. Tom was extremely helpful in getting rid of bugs. He sent out someone to spray an all-natural spray in the middle of the week. The cabin was a bit more primitive than we expected. The furniture was a little outdated and uncomfortable and the shower in the outhouse was a bit inconvenient. One thing to note is that the queen bed mentioned in the property details is now a full size bed.
A great time for all
Our family enjoyed the cottage and lake. We had plenty of beds for sleeping, played board games nightly, and made s’mores in the fire pit. The lake is truly clean and shallow for swimming. Absolutely a unique family experience in the very best area in Michigan.
It is nice to have folks like you who take great care of the cabin and enjoy it in the way that it is meant to be enjoyed. You are welcome back any time. The lakefront, the swimming, the sandy shoreline, the great firepit by the shore and the starry nights all work together for the Pure Michigan experience our guests love.
We stayed for a week in mid June after an unusually cold & wet spring, and really appreciated that this beautiful and shallow lake was warm enough for swimming! A lovely, relaxing spot with everything you need, and lots to do on site, or nearby. Quirky and no bed larger than a double, but we found it comfortable for 8, and a great place for kids.
Your family was a perfect fit for our “quirky old cabin” in the heart of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Your clan conquered the Long Lake Mike Swim and have left their names on the register with the other brave swimmers who conquered the challenge.
You are welcome back any time and hope you join our list of regulars who call “Birch Ridge” their summer home!
Great alternative to that same ole beach trip.
We loved the cabin and the location is perfect. The lake was easily 25 degrees warmer than Lake Michigan and we swam in it every day, despite cooler temperatures outside. The use of the kayaks and canoes is a great added bonus.
These folks were super guests and they are welcome back any time. They put up with some awful Northern Michigan weather and did it with a smile. They treated the property like their own home and made the most of this beautiful UpNorth family retreat cabin. Thanks for choosing Doyle Camp at Birch Ridge!
Rustic; cozy; clean. The perfect getaway spot in the woods. The owner was easy to reach
The property was beautiful. I especially enjoyed the view of the lake from the living room window where I sat and typed letters each day. I was left with an ample supply of firewood for my month-long retreat.
The bathroom was a room where one can actually experience a long relaxing winter soak, as there was no annoying shower curtain or shower door obstructing my view of the rest of the room. Consequently, I enjoyed many relaxing much needed soaks during my stay.
My daughter, a forager from birth, visited me one weekend. She invited the local mushroom picking “expert” to come give us a seminar. They ended up finding a giant bowlful of edible shrooms on the property. We feasted for the next few days on sautéed mushrooms.
Such a nice review Diane.
We loved the way you described the bathroom. You and my wife would get along just grand as you think alike. It is often hard to explain to potential guests why we don't have a shower in the cabin, but you summed it up perfectly.
Typing letters while looking at the lake and watching the leaves change and fall off the tress?! Wow, what a treat. Glad you enjoyed your month long retreat! You are welcome back any time, especially in the fall which you really seem to love.
It is adjacent to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park and is easy walking distance to the Old Indian Trail, which traverses the National Park dunescape to Lake Michigan.
