About the property

Cottage, Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

We are located on the gentle leeward west coast of Aruba at Mangel Halto, overlooking the Spanish Lagoon where the surf quietly surges upon the protective reef.

Windsong Villa & Guest Cottage is located 15 minutes from both Oranjestad and San Nicolaas. It is close to splendid restaurants and walking distance to grocery stores. Bus service is a 10 minute walk from the Villa. Car rental is available locally.

Windsong Guest cottage is in the garden behind Windsong Villa, a few feet from the shore and 50 meters to a sandy beach and a safe swimming area. It is a choice site for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking.

The air-conditioned guest cottage accommodates 2 people on a king size bed that can become twin beds. The cottage has a well equipped European kitchen with stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and clothes washing machine. cable TV 28” flat screen with a built in DVD, Ceiling fan, fully tiled large washroom with shower.

We are Canadians residing in Central Ontario and Aruba. Our first visit to Aruba was a scuba diving holiday in January 2006. We fell in love with Aruba and its people then and in April 2006 purchased our home on Spaanslagoen Weg. Since then our villa and guest cottage have been completely renovated, the pool installed and pavers and garden put in. We've enjoyed several months living at Windsong Villa. Many weeks we have enjoyed the comfort and quietness of the guest cottage when the Villa has been rented to others. We love staying in the cottage.

We have done many shore dives at Mangel Halto in front of our house and at the Hole in the Wall dive site close by. Snorkeling and swimming are great too and just out the door!

Michael is a PADI certified Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor, # 211856. While in Aruba learn to dive with Mike Brown. Lessons can begin in the pool or in the sea across the road. You can even start the knowledge development portion by email. The rates are reasonable and competitive. If you are already a Scuba Diver and want to upgrade your qualifications to Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, or Dive master. Then ask Mike. Children can learn to become Bubble makers in the pool. An 8 yr old or older can become a Junior Open Water Diver. There are a lot of options for the whole family, including swim lessons for adults and learning to safely and effectively snorkel. Contact Mike Brown.

We have a Suzuki Grand Vitari 2003 vehicle that may be available to renters for use at $30.00 per day.

Quiet Modest cottage with good price and great owners

  • 4 of 5

I would say this is a good place to stay in Aruba depending on your needs. FIrst if you want to be in th middle of thearuba tourist scene this is not for you. It is in a mostly quiet neighborhood with lots of locals. This rental is a small cottage behind a larger house that a retired Canadian couple liv in during the winter. SEcond it you want a fancy modern type condo this is not for you. The cottage is modest but comfortable. It has an older television and hot water is available in the shower only. The owners really are lovely people. They invite us for Christmas Eve dinner. The husband is a certified dive instructor who took us out to the reef across the street. The place met our needs. We did venture out to baby beach and to eagle beach. All in all it worked well for us. We are a couple in our 60s. We found great restaurants to eat at locally and really it was not far to get into the city

Excelent

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 5 amazing days at the guest cottage in Aruba. Right across from the best snorkeling on the island. The views were great and the neighborhood was quiet. The bus station and local market store were within easy walking distance. The cottage had everything we needed and was nice and peaceful at night. Juan was a great ambassador who picked us up from the airport, gave us a tour of the area, gave lots of good local advice, and dropped us off again at the end of our time. We snorkeled every day and sometimes twice a day. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. Thanks Mike and Lois.

wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 9 days. We so loved the privacy and comfort of this cottage and felt very safe here. It is away from the crowded resort areas, so it was nice to come back after a day of site seeing and have peace and quiet. Mike and Lois are wonderful hosts, and answered our many questions with patience. We appreciated seeing Juan's smiling face when we landed in Aruba! It was so nice to be picked up from the airport, and he showed us the area before taking us to get our rental car. Mike, Lois and Juan are all very friendly and we felt grateful for their help. We explored the entire island from north to south, east to west and ate at a lot of different restaurantsl! Marina Pirata was very close and was one of our most favorite places to eat. Loved the close proximity to Mangel Halto beach from the cottage! The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. WE would definitely stay here again! Thank you for one of the best vacations we have had!!!!

Amazing place to visit

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had an amazing week at the Windsong Cottage. It is in a beautiful location, and the cottage is equipped with everything you need. Juan, Mike, and Lois were wonderful hosts and always happy to help direct us around the area. The snorkeling and scuba diving just in front of the cottage at Mangel Halto was amazing, and the beach was never crowded and very private. There are lots of wonderful restaurants in the area, we especially enjoyed Zeerovers!

Perfect Vacation Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from our second visit to the wonderful Windsong Guest Cottage, and once again we are already planning our return! The guest cottage is perfectly suited for a couple, there is plenty of room for relaxing and preparing meals. We made our own breakfast and coffee each morning, packed a lunch to go, and dinners we had out and about. We love the restaurants in Savaneta, which is a 5 minute drive from the cottage, and found them to be more true to the local cuisine and not as overpriced as the restaurants are by Palm Beach. Some of our favorite places to eat close by included the Shoarma at Happy Appy’s, AG Rincon Ciollo (Cuban restaurant), Zeerovers (freshest fish on the island), and the perfectly breaded fish and chips from Marina Pirata! We splurged and had our Christmas dinner at The Flying Fishbone which was delicious although a bit expensive. The amenities in the cottage include everything you would need from cooking eggs and bacon to blending up a smoothie or tropical drink. While we spent most of our days snorkeling at various beaches or exploring the sights of Aruba, the time we spent at the cottage was blissful as well. We enjoyed swimming and lounging by the pool (also a great feature after a day of swimming in the ocean), relaxing in the hammock under the palapa reading a book, and enjoying the best feature of the cottage which was walking across the street for what locals say is the best snorkeling location in Aruba – Mangel Halto beach! This location is perfect for individuals who like to be away from the touristy madness, are budget conscious, and enjoy being in a small community surrounded by super friendly locals. Another wonderful perk: the property manager, Juan, will pick you up at the airport, no additional charge, and bring you back to the cottage to show you around and help get you settled. On our first visit, we did not rent a car for the length of our stay which was doable; however, on this most recent visit, we rented a car for the entirety of our stay, and we were glad to have it. We did not have a single bad experience, and will probably try to make an annual visit to Aruba and make Windsong Guest Cottage our home base. Thank you once again Mike and Lois for sharing your paradise home with us, we look forward to our return!

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a week at the Windsong Cottage to start out 2016. Everything was outstanding, right from the start when Juan met us at the airport. Aruba's motto is "One Happy Island", and Juan exemplifies this concept. He is very friendly and gregarious, always smiling and happy. He took us first to get our rental car at Jay's. "They won't nickel and dime you here", he assured us. And he was right - just a no-nonsense car at a no-nonsense price. We followed him to the cottage. He showed us everything we needed to know, then took us for a ride around the neighborhood, pointing out grocery stores and restaurants. It was such a relaxing start to our first trip to Aruba. The cottage was very nice, and had everything we needed, and more. The location is great. Snorkeling is available right across the street. Mike and Lois arrived midway through our stay. The nicest people you would ever hope to meet. We enjoyed getting to know them. Juan returned at the end of our trip, and we followed him back to Jay's. Then he took us back to the airport. Again, he was as happy as could be. Can't wait to go back!

Spaanslagoen Weg goes along the shore. It is a lovely and interesting walk in either direction. The neighbourhood is safe and friendly to walk through. The beach is very close where you can soak in the sun or find shade under a palm umbrella.

The main area for shopping is in Oranjestad; however there are many stores throughout the island providing whatever one might need. Two grocery stores are nearby. A bar restaurant frequented by locals and visitors provides good food and a friendly welcome. It is right at Mangel Halto steps from Windsong.

There are many places we love to visit on the island. Among them are Arikok Park. Here you can enjoy a scenic drive to beautiful wild beaches (No swimming there!). Don't miss the visitors centre. Several trails are of great interest. It is best to go on them earlier in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day.

The Archeological Museum in Oranjestad is an excellent place to learn the history of the island.
