In Spring 2013, Annie Laurie Cottage completed a magnificent restoration and redecoration. Everything is brand new from top to bottom, inside and out ... appliances, furniture, flooring, linens, drapery, paint, fixtures, siding, doors, windows ... the works! The interior walls are completely covered with ship-lap wood paneling, and the trim and mouldings are a work of art. It was a year-long labor of love by a very talented couple who built and furnished every corner with whimsy and practicality. Coastal Living Magazine should do a feature on Annie Laurie!

Located just 105 yards from Coast Cottages' fabulous oceanside pools, pavilion and beach boarwalk, this home is destined to be a St. Simons' superstar for years to come. You'll love the ocean views from the balconies, cleverly placed windows, and especially the rooftop deck with its built-in gallery seating. And once inside, you'll be amazed at Annie Laurie's creativity, craftmanship, and splendor.

FIRST FLOOR: Bedroom 1 is like a second master with a hand-made king bed and ensuite bath. Bedroom 2 has a hand-made queen bed with ensuite bath. The kids will love bedroom 3 with its rope-style bunk bed, built-in video screens and convenient 1/2 bath.

SECOND FLOOR: You'll love the open living, dining and kitchen arrangement where everyone can be together for family get-togethers. Enjoy a sing-along around the antique upright piano. There's plenty of comfortable seating on the wrap-around sectional with glimpses of the ocean through several windows. Check out our old-style wooden cafeteria table which seats 10 for meals. The seats tuck underneath and out of the way when not in use. And the kitchen is nothing short of amazing with its granite counters and flourishes of vintage (yet modern) appliances. The breakfast bar even has built-in soda shop stools. After breakfast, step out on the breezy, furnished balcony for a some sweet salt air and relaxing conversation among the swaying palms.

You can watch the 62' flat screen TV from almost anywhere on the second floor which has a convenient full bath. You'll also find a secluded 1/2 bedroom equipped with a handmade set of bunks, each with its own porthole window (one with an ocean view)! Bring your x-box too, because every bunk bed in Annie Laurie has a wall-mounted video screen ready for your favorite device.

THIRD FLOOR: On your way up the stairs, take a peek out the left window at the 1936 Historic Coast Guard Station about 100 yards away ... it was the architectural inspiration for Annie Laurie Cottage. Your jaw will drop as you enter a spacious master suite which occupies the entire third floor. The king headboard rises almost to the ceiling where three luxurious paddle fans slowly move the air in grand style. Fall asleep to the 62' flat screen TV, and wake up to an ocean sunrise without ever leaving the bed.

There are two sitting areas, one nestled in a gorgeous bay window with built-in seating and a fabulous ocean view. Enter the master bath through frosted glass doors and marvel at the unbelievable tile work throughout. Peak out the oval porthole window while you shower and watch the pelicans fly along the shoreline!

For a real treat, step outside and climb the circular stairs to the rooftop deck. We have built-in gallery seating so your group can enjoy an ocean sunrise over coffee, or a beautiful evening sunset over the cottages. Great for star gazing as well!

You and your family will enjoy full privileges at Coast Cottages' beach front pools and pavilion. Our award winning neighborhood sits front and center on St. Simons Island's magnificent Coast Guard beach, the widest stretch of sand on the island. This is a place where you can walk the beach at high tide, low tide, any tide! (Note: vacation rentals south of Arnold Road cannot make this claim.)

On February 17, 2017, eight cousins headed to St. Simons Island for a "girls only" trip. Our family ranged in age from 17 years old to 68 years old. With none of us ever being at St Simons before, we were very excited about going and could hardly wait to arrive at our destination...ANNIE LAURIE.

As we entered the cottage and began exploring from the bottom floor to the top....literally to the top where the crow's nest sits with it's most spectacular view of the beach and the water, each floor was more beautiful than the previous.....jaws were dropping and everyone was saying "look at this", then "oh, look at this".

We loved the elevator since some of us have bad knees and hips, and it made bringing luggage up to the third floor a breeze.

The cottage was immaculate!!! Everything was sooo neat and clean...everything in place...including all the beautiful throw pillows ( about 20 of them ) on the big sofa in the kitchen area...our favorite meeting place. The linens on the beds were sooo very nice and luxurious and the thick, oversized bath towels were a dream. Windows were everywhere, so you have a wonderful view no matter where you are in the cottage. The nautical theme and charm was carried out throughout the cottage with the bunk room having a porthole window by each bunk.

The beach and pool areas were as close as a walk to your mailbox at home. We were told that one of the two pools was heated....there were several people in the heated swimming pool with small children. Light switches, ceiling fans and kitchen drawers were nicely labeled to help you adjust the lighting and find things such as mugs, bowls, etc., in the kitchen. Speaking of the kitchen, EVERYONE loved the RED refrigerator, RED sink, and the RED and chrome "soda fountain" bar stools. We all voted and our favorite things were the fridge, and the light over the table in the kitchen....with hand written recipe cards clipped to the 3 circular levels of the hanging light. BEAUTIFUL "island themed" ceiling fans were in every room for a cool breeze when needed. Air conditioning and heat thermostats are located on each floor for your individual comfort.

I'm sure I have left out some wonderful things we loved about ANNIE LAURIE....but, I will close saying this....we did not want to leave...we had tears in our eyes as we told each other how much we had enjoyed our short vacation to this most wonderful cottage.

This beautiful cottage, ANNIE LAURIE, is highly recommended to anyone

Owner's Response: Thanks very much for the wonderful review! A note of clarification: the Coast Cottage pools are not routinely heated. However, the south pool may be heated upon request for a daily fee paid to the neighborhood association.

Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family vacation in Annie Laurie was perfect. The home is beautiful and has everything you need for your vacation. We had two children and five adults in the house and we were very comfortable. My elderly parents and aunt were able to climb the stairs to the second floor but it was nice having access to the elevator if it was needed. The house is perfect for families and a very short walk to the community pool. The ocean front is a hike but there are tide pools closer inland if you are not up to the walk. All of the beds were very comfortable and the air conditioner worked great. It was also extremely nice having a door code and not having to worry about keys. The house location was perfect and close to downtown where all the shops, restaurants and lighthouse are located. You will not be disappointed with the home or its location.

Our Christmas Present

  • 5 of 5

Our family decided to forego a bunch of presents in exchange for staying at Annie Laurie on St Simon's; it was completely worth it!! It's an incredible place with plenty of room for our family of 6. We love the nautical charm of the place but it had such a great style all its own! It was so close to the pools and beach which we took advantage of several times daily. It was quiet and and peaceful and I got to watch the sunrise from the rooftop deck. When we come back, this is exactly where our kids want to stay again. I highly recommend it!

We recently spent a week in Annie Laurie cottage on St Simon Island. The house is even more beautiful than the photos and was immaculate upon our arrival. The location is superb as well with the beach just a short walk away. We had a wonderful time and hope to return soon!

Car: recommended

St. Simons Island is sometimes described as a little piece of paradise. Scarcely known outside Georgia, it is quite possibly the best kept secret along the coastal Southeast. The island's majestic entrance over miles of unspoiled marshland was memorialized by Sidney Lanier in his poem The Marshes of Glynn. It's a place where an unpretentious low country meets the great ocean ... where huge tidal changes breathe life into the grassy expanse flourishing in wildlife. Somewhere in between you will discover the magic of St. Simons Island. Upon arrival, visitors are enveloped by a feeling of calm amidst ancient moss-draped oaks standing alongside glorious palms and tall southern pines. Many miles of bike paths connect a variety of shopping, eating, cultural and recreational areas within the island. There's always something fun and interesting to do. The beach at St. Simons Island is like no other. As the 7-foot tide shifts from high to low, it pulls the shoreline 1/2 mile out to sea uncovering a breathtaking system sandbars and shoals. Development is largely unseen along the north end of the beach where an abundant shrub forest has been protected and allowed to expand naturally. Acres of young dune fields nurture sensitive Sea Oats while thousands of shore birds migrate from one sand bar to the next with the receding tide. The owners and guests of Coast Cottages at St. Simons cherish their unrestricted view and enjoyment of this ecological wonderland.

Things to do on St. Simons Island:

Kayak through the marsh streams, walk the beach, eat at many great restaurants, climb the lighthouse, golf, tennis, miniature golf, small skate board park, go shopping at many quaint shops, go antique hunting, tour Fort Frederica, tour the Old Coast Guard Station (right next door to Coast Cottages), walk the sandbars at low tide, go skim boarding along the shoreline, take a trolley tour of the island, hang out at the Coast Cottages pool, go to a water park on Jekyll Island, take paddle board lessons, go crabbing or fishing right off the pier.
