The 3-room apartment is the Reykjavik home of an artist family that is based in Reykjavik and Berlin. It has been designed by the owner in a personal unique way. The apartment is ideally situated for tourists close to everything. It is THE center of Reykjavik. The heart.

The apartment is clean and tidy up to hotel standards with linen, towels and little extras provided.

The mattresses on the beds are new and care for your health. The kitchen was custom made by the same carpenter that build the kitchen for Bjork. The bathroom is modern standards. Personal music and book library, family furniture and eccentric items make the apartment cozy and warm and ideal for feeling like a local.

The house is a typical 1930s construction with 3 apartments, one on each floor plus a basement and a back garden. In the basement there is a washing room with washing machine. Young families live in the other apartments. The apartment is on the 3rd floor (counting the ground floor as the 1st floor) and has 2 bedrooms and a living room.

It is on Grettisgata close to the corner of Baronsstigur (google). The parallel street is Laugavegur. The main street of Reykjavik for shopping and walking around, enjoying street life. Still Grettisgata is local. If you walk up the road next door on the left there is a beautiful indoor swimming pool extensively photographed by artist Roni Horn. It is fully equipped with sauna, fitness equipment and outside chill area and hot tubs where you can gaze at the Nordic lights (in winter). Across the pool there is the local school with basketball court freely available to the public during the summer holiday months (May till August). Walking down Baronsstigur you first cross the Laugavegur, main shopping street before bumping into a 24 hours store and ending within few minutes at the seafront hiking route with its breathtaking mountain range across the bay. Another good place to spot the Nordic Lights. Other noteworthy amenities include Te og Kaffi bookshop and coffee house on the corner of Baronsstigur and Laugavegur; Bonus, the Icelandic discount food store, few minutes walk down Laugavegur; and Hlemmur, the main city bus terminal, few minutes walk up Laugavegur with easy connections to all the other places in the city.

Note that the apartment does not have a TV.

About The Owner

We are a family of four that live mostly in Berlin Germany. Our daughters are 6 and 3 year old. We stay in Grettisgata perhaps 2-4 months a year.

The flat I´m renting out is the gem of my eye, my personal home with lots of love put into it. Treat it nice please :-)

Please note that the INTERNET IS NOT INCLUDED and needs to be paid in advance. Talk to the owner about it when booking. The whole apartment is well maintained. It is furnished and equipped with personal items. The apartment is in on the top floor in a house with 2 other apartments. There is a washroom in the basement with private washing machine and behind the house there is a communal garden for the whole house. A single mother with a child lives in the apartment below.

Great location, great accommodations

The apartment was perfect for us! My teenage daughter and I loved staying in this third-floor walk-up. It was clean, the rooms were good sizes, and the beds were comfortable. It is about 2 short blocks from the Bonus grocery store, and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make our (albeit relatively simple) meals--pots and pans, spices. It is about 10-minutes' walk from the shore, which has a hiking/biking/walking trail along the coast. It is less than 10 minutes' walk to Hallgrímskirkja. Two blocks from Alda Hotel for tour bus drop-off and pick-up. It's about a 20-minute walk to Perlan, and a 20-minute walk to the Settlement Exhibit. There is an eclectic collection of books, many of which are in English. No TV or microwave (we didn't mind), good wifi service, which cost only a little extra to access. Plenty of souvenir shops nearby (same street as the Bonus grocery). Very pleasant place to stay!

Great location and base to explore Reykjavik!

Our stay in Iceland was fantastic and this was a great apartment for our base in the city. It's close to the main st and you can walk everywhere. We had a car and it was really easy to park, just watch the parking times on the street. The apartment was clean, cosy and great value.

Quaint apartment perfectly located

The apartment has everything the three of us needed. We dined in a few nights and had sufficient pots and pans etc. There are books to read and a comfortable living room to do so. When dined out it was all within walking distance. Most of the time we parked our rental car a few blocks away in a zone which was free.

Very good location for walking or for driving to local attractions.

excellent central location; immaculately clean; great communication & recommendations by owner

My 2 friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The apartment & its' artsy & unique decor are fun. It is kept immaculately clean. The Wi-Fi was flawless. We did not miss having a TV or a microwave the least bit. It was actually quite nice to be detached from the news and crazy politics back in the States. The owner's recommendations on how to live like a local were excellent and spot on. The apartment is well stocked with utensils & all we needed to prepare a few meals. As mentioned in other reviews, even though it is close to all the action of Laugavegur Street, it was still quiet and a great place to relax after a day of activities and adventures. The apartment was close to the pick up stops for the organized tour & excursions we took. The 3 of us all agreed that we would stay here again on a future visit to Reykjavik. This isn't a criticism, it's just a comment that for an elderly person or someone with some physical limitations, getting into and out of the bathtub much be a challenge. My friends and I did not have an issue but for families traveling with an elderly person, it might be an issue. The black out shades worked well during our summer stay. Thank you so much Hulda for helping make our stay in Reykjavik so comfortable and memorable. We all wished that the place we stayed in in Akureyri was half as comfortable & interesting as your place! Thanks again for everything.

Convenient in town location

We were 4 adults staying in this apartment, it was convenient to walk anywhere downtown and quiet. The beds were fine except in the 2nd bedroom there were 2 beds listed but one was more of a cot. If it was listed in description that way, I missed it. Everything else was clean and taken care of well. We were gone most days, all day. Parking is a trick to find spots mainly cause we got back to apartment so late in day, usually a few blocks away but the walk was never bad. Hulda was great to work with and I would recommend her apartment as long as you don't mind doing steps to the 3rd floor.

Cozy Icelandic Home

We enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment was very convenient and close to everything. Even though it is very close to Laugavegur, it is very quiet and peaceful. It was just as described on the listing, and we would definitely stay here again.

The apartment is on Grettisgata downtown in the middle of everything, bars, restaurants, groceries, shopping. Use to find Grettisgata on a map.

2 minutes from main city bus terminal Hlemmur with buses to all the suburbs. 15 minutes walk to the BSI bus terminal with busses to the Blue Lagoon and airport. The swimming pool is next door and has sauna, hot tubs and fitness equipment. Down the street, 2 minutes is a beautiful hiking route along the seafront with mountain view. Up the road 2 minutes there is the Hallgrimskirkja church that towers over Reykjavik cityscape. The old bank down the street was recently converted into a nice bookshop café where you can enjoy croissants and expresso while checking out travel books.
