About Julie Hirz
We live only 20 minutes away and use the cottage often! That is why we keep it so perfect for our guests. Our love for Balboa in its people! We have made many great friends over the years and you will feel like it is your home even if you are only there a week. We are open to loan you are kayaks and hope you will enjoy our cottage as much as we do! So many of our guests have returned for a second and even third visit. We just remodeled the entire place in Jan 2013. New kitchen, new flooring and all new paint. Perfect condition and we know you will treat our home like your own. Julie and Dave

Why Julie Hirz chose Balboa Island
The Island is a special place. Plenty to do with shops and restaurants right behind us, yet, it is quiet and so relaxing. We love to go to the Newport Beach, but always happy to come back to the Island.
What makes this House unique
There really no place like being on the canal! The sidewalks are so inviting. The patio area is perfect for a family BBQ...the dock is great for reading. If you need some shopping time, you are just steps away! The main street is directly behind the cottage. Starbucks is on the corner next to many great eateries! The local island grocery store is cute and has all your last minute food for cooking or you can walk across the bridge to a larger market. Lastly, you can take the ferry across to the sandy beaches of Newport! You will want to come back again and again!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
What a terrific property! We’ve rented other homes on Balboa Island, but this was by far the best for us. We are a family of four and it fit us perfectly. Great house, great value.
So great we came back!!
You know you have found a great place when you can't wait to stay again. Fantastic accommodations, wonderful owner! I can't say enough great things about this place - whether you want to just lounge on the front patio and take in the view, or get up and go on a kayak, bike, or nice walk around the island. THIS IS THE PLACE!!!!!!
Quintessential Balboa Island Home
My family and I had the best time at this home! I spent my childhood on the North Bayfront of Balboa Island in a home that my grandparents designed and built many many years ago. My family unfortunately sold the home and the buyer tore it down and built a monster house. This beautiful little home at 211 Grand Canal is EXACTLY what Balboa Island is all about...the land that time forgot. The owners thoughtfully provided every item that we could possibly need from linens to games. The furnishings are very comfortable and classy and everything works! The bbq igniter even works! With the salt air, this is a difficult achievement. The gas fireplace was nice and cozy on the couple days that it rained. I have rented vrbo's that looked nice online but were long in the tooth. This property is perfect and better in person! I love the wooden built-ins in the master. This location is excellent. The 200 block of the Grand Canal is nice because it is much less chaotic than the 300 block. We never had a problem pulling in to or out of the garage. This isn't always the case on other blocks. We enjoyed everything from watching Blue Heron fish to engaging with passers by. We established that Dad's has the best Balboa Bar and ate a Balboa Bar every night while we walked around the islands. I surprisingly didn't gain weight because of all of the walking! This home is perfect. We didn't want to leave. Please let us know if you ever want to sell. We will keep it exactly as it is. Well done!
Best experience ever!
This house was clean and cozy! We had everything we needed! It is on the canal and since they dredged it has sandy banks piled up. My kids never wanted to walk to the “real beach” because we had our own right here. Spent our whole trip kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding and just relaxing. The Balboa Fun zone is just a short walk and a ferry ride away. Julie (the owner) even stopped by with supplies that most vrbo homes don’t provide. Will definitely come back to this house!
Fantastic Cottage by the Canal
The stay at the Balboa cottage was great. The cottage is very cute and the patiio on the canal is so enjoyable. The cottage was as advertised, we were very pleased with the accomodations and the surrounding area. I would stay here again.
This house is great for a family of 4-5. It’s off the busy path and feel like it’s on the water because the canal is so calm. All the good food and stores are just a block away. And the bikes were great. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience.
Thank you for your kind words! Hope you can come again!
There is so much to do and see nearby. Of course, Disneyland is in Anaheim, CA about 25 minutes away. If you feel like driving south on PCH, I recommend

Laguna Beach is awesome with great walking and art galleries.
(and the drive is so beautiful)
If you want to go to Catalina, you can catch the Catalina Ferry across at the Pavillon (Pavillon bar has $4 appetizers and drinks from 4-7 pm nightly and you can watch the fishing boats come in)
Shopping and lunch? run up to Fashion Island (they also have a great movie theater that you can order food/drinks)
