Reviewer Comments:

We had a great time at Sweet Hydrangea! It had plenty of room for our little extended family, including two toddlers, parents, and grandparents, and we loved how easily we could get to everything. We were able to walk to a playground, the lake, and out for coffee (Dynamite and Dripolator) and biscuits (Blue Ridge Biscuit Company)! We also made it into Asheville, and over to Montreat, both of which were easy drives. The neighborhood was very cute and the house was very kid friendly, with toys and a highchair, and no tempting things for them to get into. We loved being able to relax out on the deck after they were in bed. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

Reviewer Comments:

We spent a long weekend in Black Mountain with our adult son and girlfriend who live nearby. The house was extremely clean, roomy, quiet, nicely landscaped, and well stocked. It is close to downtown, Tomahawk Lake, and numerous hiking trails. The driveway is steep, but we had no problems getting in and out with Yukon or our son's Subaru. We enjoyed good meals from My Father's Pizza, Trailhead, and Native Kitchen. We also enjoyed post-hike beverages at Lookout and Pisgah Brewing. The staff at Greybeard Rentals provided excellent customer service and communication. Checking in and out was very easy. I would recommend Sweet Hydrangea and Greybeard Rentals without hesitation. The Greybeard app is very helpful.

Excellent Rental Home

  • 5 of 5

This home was one of the most well stocked vacation rentals in which we have stayed. It is a clean home with plenty of gathering space indoors and out. The property is very well landscaped, as well. Everything in the house was in good working order. We stayed here with our adult son and girlfriend (Asheville residents) for a long weekend hiking trip. From the reviews I read, a common complaint is the steep driveway. It is steep, but we had been warned by the reviews and rental agency of this. We had no problems getting in or out of the driveway (in forward or reverse) in my Yukon, and neither did my son who drives a Subaru with a fairly low profile. The neighborhood was quiet, and there was very little traffic on the street. It is close to downtown, Tomahawk Lake, Swannanoa, and many great (and challenging) hiking trails. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sweet Hydrangea, and we will stay here again.

Reviewer Comments:

Despite the picturesque photo of the front, there were some problems. Walls in the bathroom were stained and unclean, paint was unfinished, and it seemed every light switch seemed cracked from sloppy installation, and this honestly extended far beyond the bathroom and to the entire house. The most obvious issue is how shoddily all of the house was finished. Half-finished paint, splotchy walls, but whatever -- we weren't there to admire the furniture. I can live with a messy house, but I wouldn't pay to stay here again in this state. While we were there, fire alarms misfired waking us up in the middle of the night, the trash can drawer collapsed, and a door stopper fell off the wall. The air conditioning would not work properly, even though the heat admittedly worked fine. The worst part of the stay was that the shower water was -- at best -- lukewarm. You simply could not get ANY hot water out of it. We even brought a pickup truck after reading other reviews about the harsh bump on the driveway! Our pickup truck, which has a high clearance, still would scrape the driveway -- even going extremely slow and carefully over the edge. Do NOT stay here if you have a low riding vehicle. The location was fine, and if they fix the shower water it might be an okay place to stay. But BEWARE the steep driveway which is NOT SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS.

Very charming house - but I do recommend it be for low count number of people. It was too small for 6 adults.Stairs are very steep, so no older people. Hot water barely warm - 2 kitchens towels - poor equipped kitchen - showers not fixed to floor, so it pops with every movement - bed downstairs bangs into wall with every movement. Other than that it is a very charming place.

Reviewer Comments:

Greybeard app was great. Kept us informed throughout out stay. Play space for children was great except for the glass top tables, one with dangerous corners. Not kid friendly. Finishes in the house were less than what I expected - creaky shower floors, etc. The biggest issue was the treacherous driveway. Scrapped the bottom of our car almost every time. Proximity to lake and park was nice.
