Everything you could want in a vacation house!
Our family has rented many houses over the years and this was by far the best one yet. The house truly has everything you need. The owners (Ted and Sezelle) are incredibly friendly and responsive. They offer their house and treat you as though you are long time friends.
The house is beautiful and worked well with our family (9 adults, 3 children). Our favorite parts were the kitchen, the front patio, the back porch and the heated pool.
When we weren't hanging by the pool, we hiked a few nearby trails, rode bikes on a nearby rails to trails, and explored the quaint town of Beacon.
The highlight of the trip though was the view of the Hudson from the patio.
Overall, great house and great trip.
Better than our high expectations
A beautiful and functional house in a gorgeous setting with a view on the Hudson river, that is conveniently accessible from NYC . It was a perfect family country house. With three young children, we were between 5 and 10 adults, some working and commuting to NYC, some tele-commuting from the barn house. The kitchen for foodies was great, the garden and pool are superbly landscaped. Overall, the house with its terrasse, porch and pool is equally set for quiet reading time, sports, play and parties. We enjoyed a number of cultural visits including to the DIA museum, and were able to trek and kayak in the glorious wooded valley. Only comment is that we could have used an extra bath.
Wonderful house. We stayed with a large group for West Point Graduation. It was a great location. House was clean with everything you could possibly need. My favorite part is the back porch with the fabulous view. Owner was great to work with. Highly recommend.
Perfect spot for large groups visiting West Point!
I stayed at this gem of a home with a group of 10, spanning three generations and four families. It is beautifully decorated, situated in an idyllic setting, and close to a wide array of landmarks, parks and amenities. We spent most of our time in the kitchen, which has everything needed to cook for and serve large groups. The living room has ample space to read, watch TV, or just talk. We never used the basement, but there's additional group-space there, too. The bedrooms adequately covered our needs, that included four couples and two teenagers. We also used an air mattress for our teenage son. The owners are extremely responsive via the HomeAway app. We had a minor issue with the microwave and they guided us to a simple fix within minutes. The house is within minutes from multiple state parks (e.g. Bear Mountain), the U.S. Military Academy, and shopping in Cold Spring. Finally, it offers ample hill training for runners! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone looking for a home that will provide respite to a group of almost any size while visiting the southern end of the Hudson River Valley.
Ted and Sazelle were the perfect hosts. Their property is incredibly convenient from NYC and absolutely amazing. Situated quietly off in the woods, the house is remote enough for privacy yet accessible. We were fortunate to have chosen their place for friends weekend because it rained nearly the entire time but their house was large, open, and conducive of group interaction. The house was clean, Ted was a very prompt and thorough communicator, and their kitchen was well-stocked with anything you could need for prepping & cooking. Our overall experience greatly exceeded our (already high) expectations and I can't recommend their place enough. We will certainly be back.
Magical place for a family trip!
We absolutely loved the property. House was beautiful and spacious. We had adult kids and their boyfriends (and, to our surprise) their friends and grandma, and our two dogs and the house and extensive grounds were perfect. Badminton and frisbees on the lawn, swimming and sunning in the pool (we didn't even know it was heated--a pleasant surprise), grilling on the upper patio, swinging near the pond, pool and ping pong in the game room.
5 min drive to the train station was wonderful with so many surprise guests and Cold Spring had everything we needed--In hindsight, I wish I'd brought more food/wine from home--Prices are high in that tiny town.
Owner was very responsive, despite my dumb questions. Everything very clean, instructions avail for everything.
Visited West Point and was impressed as always by the cadets, and the setting.
Biggest regret--not spending enough time on the upper balcony watching the fun and the river.
Downsides--none we can think of. We normally never return to a place for a second vacation, but in this case I don't know how we could improve.
Biggest headache--my wife wants to move to the Hudson Valley.
Garrison is 20 minutes away from West Point, 5 minutes from the nearest train station. Easy drive 1 hour up the Taconic or Pallisades from NYC. Near beautiful town of Cold Spring, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, lots of activities and great restaurants
