El Prado House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-9)

The adobe walls of Tierra Madre are cool in the summer and warm in winter. This spacious home was designed with the comfort of guests in mind. An adobe house feels like no other. Heavy beams (vigas) span the ceilings in the traditional manner while thick plaster coats the walls. Warmth is provided by radiant floor heat. Imagine living as the Pueblo Indians have for thousands of years, but with all of the modern conveniences. Yes, you can even bring your own notebook computer and enjoy the free wi-fi.

Tierra Madre is north of town, just 15 minutes from the ski valley and five minutes from town. You will feel like you have come home as you snuggle under down comforters and build a fire in the Kiva fireplace. Everything is provided from an espresso coffeemaker to comfortable chairs for those afternoons when all you want to do is read a book.

The outside hot tub is the perfect place to watch shooting stars dart across the dark skies of Taos. For those of you who can't get enough of the great outdoors an adobe walled flagstone patio overlooks the vast expanse of BIA land (Indian Pueblo land). Only an occasional cow can be seen from this private getaway.

It is obvious why the famous painter RC Gorman chose to live right across the road. This is a place of special beauty.

About Jim

After years of owning our own business we decided it was time for Chapter Two(or three). We lived in Tanzania, Guyana and Ukraine working for the US Peace Corps for about 10 years. As of January 2014 Jim is back in Taos and Anne commutes from Taos to different Peace Corps location around the World on short term assignments.

Jim purchased this house in 2003

Why Jim chose New Mexico

We vacationed in Taos in 1990's and fell in love with it. We returned time and time again until We bought a house in 1999 and moved to Taos in 2000. We loved the year round beauty of the mountains, the artists, and fantastic sunshine. We finally found the perfect piece of land to build a custom home and built a home with the views, comfort and privacy as our first 3 priorities. It has BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs)land on 2 sides for maximum privacy. It is located between Taos and Ski Valley , close to everything yet it is a relaxing private place.

What makes this house unique

Sunset views, mountain views. Sitting on the flagstone patio sipping on my morning coffee, soaking up the sunshine and the beautiful views. The perfect way to start the day.

After a great day of skiing, hiking, hitting the river, biking or taking in some new galleries I love to wait until after dark, turn out all the house lights and go out to the Jaccuzzi and just sit in the dark with the jets off and watch the bright stars.

We did not want to leave...

  • 5 of 5

We can't stop thinking about our visit to this wonderful home. We spent most of our trip in the house listening to KTAO radio station, making great meals from the food at Cid's Market in the well-equipped kitchen, building small cozy fires in the fireplace, and staring at the mountains from the living room couch! We fell head over heels in love with Taos on this trip. Jim, if you ever decide to sell this home - please contact us because we could live in that house forever. It's absolutely perfect in every way and you were fantastic to rent from. Thank you!

The best place I've stayed at in 20 years of coming to New Mexico

  • 5 of 5

My buddies and I have been coming to northern New Mexico for 20 years. We've stayed in some very nice places along the Pecos River and along the Rio Grande. But after staying in Tierre Madre we won't be staying anywhere else but here. The view to the east out of the living room window was a spectacular view of the mountains and the sunrise; the view out to the west was the best sunsets I've ever seen. After hiking Wheeler Peak the hot tub was just what we needed. Clean, spacious, a great fireplace, everything one needs in the kitchen, and the shower was nice and hot. This place is north of Taos and within 7 minutes of Orlando's (one of the best mexican restaurants you'll find). I will be coming back next year (and maybe before then) to this fantastic home!

One more thing, almost across the street is the meeting spot for Eske's Hot Air Balloon Company...I walked to it and had a blast riding in a hot air balloon over the Rio Grande Gorge.

Tierra Madre we love you!

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week in this property outside of Taos and it was grand! On the edge of a small residential area, the house had great views all around. The high-ceilinged great room faced Pueblo Peak to the east and the patio faced a wide-open sage brush plain and the mountains beyond. The first evening was a cloudless, moonless night, and being city dwellers, the stars were spectacular, like nothing you can ever see in town. The house is clean, well provisioned and comfortable. We had our two Corgis with us and they soon adapted to their temporary home. Direct dish TV was limited but who needs TV with all there is to see and do outside and in Taos. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review. We strive to make Tierra Madre feel like your 2nd home, not a rental. We do have the Top 120 + local New Mexico channels package with Dish network for those evenings when you just want to relax or watch your favorite TV programs

Great Views, Great House

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. The house was immaculate and very well appointed.

The hot tub was clean and enjoyable.

The owner was very responsive to emails and helped in determining if the house was suitable for a person in our group with limited mobility.

The four of us enjoyed the views from the patio. We even got a photo of a rainbow or too.

Lovely and serene

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, along with our two dogs, had a wonderful four day break at Tierra Madre. We have been coming to Taos for several years and found your property the best by far! All the amenities of home, secluded and quiet, yet close enough to Taos to enjoy the restaurants, shops, mountain trails, and local flavor. We love the open concept great room and the artwork everywhere. We hope you will let us come back!

Beautiful house with magnificent views

  • 5 of 5

The Tierra Madre is a wonderful vacation choice for comfort and relaxation. The views are spectacular and the house is tastefully decorated, immaculately well kept, and stocked with all the essentials for cooking a relaxing meal.

The house is located in a perfect spot with plenty of privacy, easy access, but with close proximity to all the sights and activities in Taos and the surrounding area. My husband and I really enjoyed our time spent and look forward to making the trip back soon! A family would be very comfortable in this house and we're looking forward to bringing our children and grandchild back the next time!

This is a prime location to stay at located in between Taos and Taos Ski valley. Close to Taos for groceries, restaurants, and shopping, yet also close to Ski valley for skiing and forest hiking. Close but so nice with the quiet relaxing location It has BIA (federal land) on 2 sides so there are vast views of sunsets out the back windows or from the patio. Great views of the sunrise and the mountains out the front windows.
