We are Richard Sullivan, an architect (UC Berkeley B.Arch 1966 and M.Arch 1987) and Kathleen Doering former nursing educator (MN UCLA 1986) who has 're-tooled' and become an early childhood educator (MEd Chaminade University 2003). We have been married 32 years and use this condo as a 'get away' from our home in Honolulu.
Richard Sullivan and Kathleen Doering purchased this condo in 1998
We purchsed this property because of its spectacular location away from Hawaii's usual tourist destinations.
We enjoy the quiet and local culture of Molokai.
An elegant and pleasant home away from home. Plenty of space even for yoga or exercise - uncommon in a relatively compact condo.
Such an amazing view with this little condo. Had no trouble finding the condo and found it to be in great shape. Water pressure in the shower was very lacking, but in reading other reviews it seems this is an issue for most condo's in the area.
The owners count' have been nicer and even once we reached the condo so helpful when we contacted them with questions.
Only drawback was the pre-arrival directions they gave us informed us of the wifi internet name and password. When we got there our phones wouldn't connect and couldn't find the network. After contacting them, the owners told us that they no longer offer wifi. Not the best scenario, but they did offer that the office a few buildings over has an open network you can connect to.
Overall, a very nice place to stay and and would recommend for those coming to Molokai who want to be away from town. Great stay!
We were very excited to celebrate a birthday in peace and quiet on a neighbor island.
What a fabulous view and the surf after "Eddie Akau Surf" was magnificent. However, from the lanai, your view was blocked by the railing. There needs to be a higher table and chair ensemble. The kitchen has more than enough appliances and tools for your stay.
The entire unit needs updating. The bathroom has a kitchen sink faucet installed that causes the water to splash all over. The shower head pops off each time you try to adjust height/aim of water. The flooring is linoleum squares that are lifting here and there. The wall unit/entertainment center has way too much clutter and it takes the tube TV awhile to adjust to your eyes, or your eyes to adjust to it.
Bedding is clean, but very old and makes you not want to not use it. The upstairs ""remodeled area bedroom", was awkward and had lots of cabinets with locks that were of no use to you, as the renter. "Clutter is what they were". They were more of a storage space for the owner. We were more comfortable sleeping on the Murphy bed downstairs. We absolutely loved it downstairs at night, cool and breezy with the door open.( no screen). We barricaded the door opening with the ladder that was next to the bed downstairs.
As for quiet, each evening5-6p, there is a trumpet concert from one of the residents. Taps and Revelry. The condo next door is under Reno. The walls are paper thin. Noisy, noisy noisy!
The resident under, meows for cats ueach night to feed them. The 3rd day there, a male worker walked in on me (with a key) while my husband was on a walk. He said he was there to repair the door. He was wrong to be in the unit, but right about the door. Lots of rust and peeling paint. Gross! Had we been touring that day our privacy would be compromised! Not good! Not safe!
Unit was well kept and clean.
The resort is15-20 minutes from the airport. Kaunakakai town is 10 minutes in the opposite direction from the airport, so get your provisions before you come down.
We are very simple people and easy to please, but there was too much going on here.
The entire resort is beautifully kept and the views, sunsets, beach walks and surf are Spectacular. Nice for being away from it all, but do your homework on where each unit is located. Happy birthday to me.!
My husband and I travel to Hawaii typically twice per year. We stayed here for 5 nights for our anniversary and found the location charming and the view absolutely wonderful from the lanai. The unit was equipped as advertised, and the bedding was clean but very stale smelling. Our primary disappointment was the lack of furniture - there is only 2 chairs in the living area which were difficult to sit in for very long. The lanai table and chairs were fine, but the height of the rail ruins an otherwise beautiful view - bar chairs and a taller table common in many condos (for this reason) would fix the issue. As noted by others, the loft bed is extremely hard, not just firm, so be wary. The pool area was a nice find. If you plan to be active and on the go, this is a great location. If you are looking for a cozy romantic hideaway to steal away in, we unfortunately cannot recommend.
The condo unit is in a good location for west end beaches, and easy drive to town for groceries, restaurants, etc. Unit was clean, and had all the amenities we needed. Parking was easy, too.
It was not good stay. It started off bad because we didn't get the info on what unit # we were staying in. We wasn't able to contact the owner cause they did not provide a contact number just their email. We had to locate our unit by viewing the photos that they posted which was a very inconvenience. We then had to go to a number of units to input the lock box # that was given to us. It took us an hour and a half to finally find the unit. On top of all of that, when it was time to shower, the water was not working. It was slowly trickling out of the faucet. Water only worked in the morning. Very bad! I will not recommend anyone to stay in this unit. We will book with Ke Nani Kai instead.
Mule rides to historic Kalapapa leper colony. It is recommended that you rent a car as our location on the West end is 12 miles from the airport and any ammenities. Car rental options are ALAMO (at airport) and a local company ISLAND KINE-808-553-5242. Taxi/shuttle services are limited yet available-call 1-808-553-3369 to reserve your pickup.
