We have owned Woodland Waters since 2006 and did a major renovation is 2007, when we opened as a vacation rental. We now live in Miami and enjoy sailing and being here in the winter. But in the summer we head to Bedford County to hang out in our other place on the river, Pristine Waters, just 400 feet from Woodland. It is undergoing a major renovation and addition and should be finished in 2016.
Bruce Penrod purchased this house in 2006
Woodland Waters is the best riverfront rental property in Bedford and Huntingdon Counties. It has over 500 feet of river front from shallow to deep and is high and dry when the river comes up.
Even though you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, all amenities are provided and all facilities are only a short drive away.
I hope everyone can appreciate the beauty and serenity that exists here. This is a beautiful area of Pennsylvania with so much to offer.
This was a great place for my husband and I to meet with our daughter and son and their spouses (and their two dogs!) for a mini family reunion. The house was spacious and could have easily slept a few more people on the day bed and top bunk. As my daughter said, "The pictures online don't do this place justice - it's got so much more room then it looked like in the pictures!" We enjoyed the hot tub (unfortunately it was a little too chilly for the canoe), the fire pit and hiking in the nearby state park. I would definitely recommend this VRBO and will plan on using it agian in the future!
A lovely well appointed home in a beautiful setting. Well stocked, comfortable and clean.
Bruce was extremely hospitable and the place was lovely. It is extremely quiet and relaxing.
From the photos the property seemed a bit more remote than it actually was. There are neighbors and you can see and hear them if they are around. The property is surrounded by other homes and RV's. I was hoping for more remoteness (away from other homes) but overall it was very quiet during the week. More people start to come down on Friday. The home was very clean but was in need of some updated cookware/appliances/blankets/furniture etc., very dated and used. The chairs outside around the glass table and plastic ones below are wearing and may not support a large person. My husband sat in one and it collapsed on him. They need to replace or someone can get hurt. The owner and his son were very good to deal with and helpful. We were disappointed that the Jacuzzi was not working for our stay and the previous tenant had taken the key to the home causing a delay in checking in. The river was very clean but the water was not high enough at that location to really do any boating. There is a little general store not too far away with basic necessities. For restaurants, grocery, Walmart, its about a 15-20 min ride. Not bad considering the scenery and wildlife you can see on the way. There are several antique stores along Rt. 30. and other tourist attractions.
This 'cabin' was in a beautiful location in a heavy wooded area on a clear river. There were several homes nearby but did not hear any noise from them. Our stay was during hunting season and we did hear several gunshots nearby. Our family spent a lot of time exploring the area seeing the: Flight 93 Memorial, Bedford County Covered Bridges, Gettysburg Battlefield, Hersey Chocolate Factory (tour) and the Chambersburg Apple Festival so, we didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin except to sleep. We only prepared one dinner meal and watched a little TV (basic satellite)in the evenings. The cabin is basic and roomy to an extent. Some attention could be given to the outside. The chairs around the outside table where we had our prepared dinner were not safe with the fabric so threadbare as to not support one's weight. Looks like some recent remodeling has taken place inside but a lot of loose ends still need taking care of. The last mile of road into the cabin is an adventure. As long as you drive slow and don't drive a 'low rider' then it can be successfully accomplished. We drove a midsize SUV and had no issues but I was very cautious. The items I mentioned above kept me from giving this cabin 4 stars. The fixes are relatively minor. The appliances all worked. The outside temp was nice and we sleep with windows open so not sure of the HVAC system. We found the water pressure to be good and we spaced out our baths. We didn't try the hot tub.
The owner emailed me before our arrival to say the previous guest reported no phone or internet but they were trying to get it corrected. All was working fine when we arrived. The phone is important in that there is no cell service at the cabin. As you drive out in the mornings your cell phone begins to receive msgs as you reached the top of the hill.
Woodland Waters was an excellent getaway spot for our family. It very comfortably accommodated 7 of us, including our 3 small children. The kitchen was excellent for cooking and entertaining. The dining area gave us plenty of space. The great room was so comfortable and spacious for the kids to play and for the guys to enjoy some football on the flat screen TV. The bedrooms gave us the privacy we all needed with plenty of space and comfy beds too. The weekend was a bit wet, so we didn't enjoy the outdoors as much as we had like to. Also, be sure to take it slow on the driveway. It's a rough ride, especially if your car sits low like our Odyssey. Overall outstanding stay.
Bedford County is a beautiful rural county that provided many activities and great scenic drives.
