Welcome to the Historic Palisades Cabin!

Olympic Village, just off the main road and only a 3 minute walk to Squaw Village and Lifts!

Squaw Valley, officially named Olympic Valley since the 1960 Olympic Winter games, is located on the pristine North Shore of Lake Tahoe, just off Highway 89, 2 minutes to Squaw Valley Lifts, about 13 minutes from Truckee, 5 minutes from Alpine Meadows, 25 minutes from NorthStar and about 10 minutes from Tahoe City by the lake.

Our Tahoe Vacation Rental is located in walking distance to the Squaw Valley Ski Lifts, the Squaw Valley Village, and various hiking and biking trails in the valley. Our sunny Tahoe Vacation Rental has beautiful mountain and valley views and is nestled within a quiet residential neighborhood. The Historic Palisades Cabin was one of the first vacation homes built by Wayne Poulsen, the visionary, who recognized Squaw Valley's potential as a Ski Resort in the early 1930's and who was the original founder of the Squaw Valley Ski Resort. The Palisades Ski Cabin was built in 1952 and was completely remodeled in 2008.

The recent renovation reserved the character of the 1952 cabin while creating a sustainable luxury vacation rental. Complying with LEED building principles, the original building was restored to prevent unnecessary material waste and destruction of the environment. Today, the Palisades Ski Cabin is restored beyond its original beauty, with energy efficient floor heating, luxurious bathrooms and sun flooded living areas.

Master Bedroom Suite:

Our mountain cabin features a spacious and stylish master bedroom suite. The master bedroom has vaulted ceilings, big sun exposed windows and French doors leading to a secluded garden patio. A comfortable king size four poster bed assures restful sleep and relaxation after a full day in the outdoors. Our elegant master bathroom has an over-sized whirlpool soaking tub, a beautiful spa shower and a European style bidet.

Mountain View Bedroom:

The cozy mountain-view bedroom is on the second floor and has a queen size bed, vaulted ceilings and French doors leading to a private and sunny deck with mountain and valley views.

The Sleeping Loft:

The sleeping loft on the second floor has two alcove twin beds in true cabin style. Over-sized French doors open to a European style balcony with full views of the Squaw Valley Mountains and the Mountain-Run ski slope. There is a large flat screen TV in the sleeping loft.

Hideaway Nook - This hidden little secret is a family favorite. Up a short built in ladder is a secret room with a twin size bed. The room is filled with books and is great for kids or adults who want a quiet little hideaway to relax in.

Living Spaces:

The gourmet kitchen has granite counter tops and state of the art cooking utensils. French doors open to a beautiful outside deck and the garden. The dining room features an authentic Tahoe dining table and mountain style chandeliers for gourmet dining and family bonding. The sun flooded living room invites our guests to linger at any time of the day. Open and spacious, it is the perfect place to relax and socialize. A custom made Chandelier illuminates the cabin, providing elegance and style. Entering the cabin, our guests will be welcomed into our cozy mud-room with heated floors where all shoes, coats and outdoors attire can be kept.

The Palisades Ski Cabin features a two car garage with a covered access to the cabin.

Winter Activities - Ski like a local – Squaw Valley USA:

The Squaw Valley Ski Resort is the second largest ski area in Lake Tahoe. The Squaw Valley base is at 6,200 feet and the highest peak is 9,050 feet above sea level. During the winter months, Squaw Valley offers the most challenging and exciting skiing in the Tahoe Area, with a 2,850 ft vertical rise and 4000 acres of terrain, this mountain is a playground for skiers and snow boarders alike. Due to the size of the mountain, the Squaw Valley Ski Corporation maintains advanced technology to decrease lift line waits, mainly by implementing high speed and high volume chairlifts, a European style Funitel and a tram to High camp for Skiers as well as non-skiers. Ice-Skating is offered at High Camp as well as at the skating rink at the Resort at Squaw Creek. Cross Country skiing is offered through The Squaw Creek Resort in the Squaw Valley meadows.

Every season is the perfect season to visit Olympic Village and the Palisades Cabin is right in the heart of it all!

About The Owner

I love Squaw Valley and the beautiful North Shore of Kauai. Two worlds so different from one another and so dear to me.

Why Squaw Valley? I love the people, the mountains, the Lake and all the activities you can choose to do. While there, I can never decide, which season and what activity I like best. The winters here are beautiful. Blue skies, deep snow and awesome skiing! Spring is gorgeous. You can still ski on the top of the mountain or go hiking or golfing in the lower elevations. You can begin your day on the slopes and hike the trails in the afternoon.

Summer in Tahoe is marvelous, filled with never-ending outdoors activities like running, hiking, biking, rafting, boating… it doesn't end there... or just reading in the hammock under the pines… Fall makes me nostalgic about the Tahoe summer gone by. The nights get crisper the mountain air smells of pine and the sunsets are beautiful and dramatic. During the day we take bike rides or long hikes and in the evening we sit around the fireplace and enjoy the company of our friends.

Why The Owner chose Olympic Valley

Our property is a very unique piece of land within the Valley. Our gardens surrounding the Palisades Cabin are beautifully landscaped and great fun to use during the summer, spring and fall, with outdoor dining on our extended beautiful deck or relaxing in a hammock between the large pine trees. Our property has a gentle slope and makes for some nice sledging for small kids in the winter.

We are close enough to the mountains to walk to the Village with its ski lifts, restaurants, shops, and various festivals happening there; yet far enough way to not hear the hustle and bustle or traffic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a magical white Christmas at the cabin. The house is absolutely amazing, and is even more beautiful than the photos! The cabin has a wonderful feel, style and vibe to it. We are all from Scandinavia and the cabin felt like home to us. Not only is the entire cabin made from beautiful wood, but the lighting is incredible, which is very important to us Danes! Every single light throughout the house is on dimmers. Meaning you can set the mood, exactly as you want it, in every room. The kitchen is small, but well equiped. The location is fantastic. A 2 min drive to Olympic valley. We shall definitely return.

Gorgeous Cabin, Ideal Location!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin for a girls ski weekend and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. It was beautifully decorated, and even had a wood sauna for relaxing after the slopes! Couldn't ask for a better location either, just minutes for the Squaw lifts. The owners we so attentive and very accommodating. Will definitely book again next year.

Pure Magic!

  • 5 of 5

This. Place. Is. Magical. It was perfect for what we needed - a gorgeous home base while we were at the Wanderlust festival. Everything is beautiful and well-kept. We were able to rent bikes nearby and quickly get to the village, which was an added bonus. Highly recommend this house for families, friends and co-workers!

A unique property in all of Tahoe

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Cabin with our three boys for the last three seasons. The location is incredibly convenient to Squaw and in walking distance to the village. We liked that the owners keep the property pristine...much nicer than your standard Tahoe Rental. We liked being out of the craziness of the village and come back after a hard day of skiing to a place that felt like home.

Great way to start the year!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is AWESOME!! Our first VRBO, rental and we started with a gem. Great Location, Quiet setting but easy to get to Squaw Valley amenities. Very clean, great beds and linen. EVERYTHING that the owner has in the description is spot on.

We were there on a week with 4 feet of snow in 3 days, we never had a problem getting in and out as the plows for the neighborhood did a super job.

If this place fits your travel dates... You won't be disappointed and hope to be able to visit it again.

Oh by the way the owners were very nice. They should be proud!

Dreamy Tahoe Home

  • 5 of 5

The Palisades Cabin was MAGICAL! We absolutely fell in love the moment we walked in. This is not your typical Tahoe cabin with outdated furniture and mediocre beds. It is a stunning home with high end touches throughout. The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable, I wrote the owners to find out where it was from. We love to ski and being so close to Squaw was perfect for our group. The dining area seats at least 8 people so we really enjoyed all our meals in. My niece discovered the hide away nook room and just loved it. It was her own little private world where she could read and play. We are looking forward to coming back in the summer so we can enjoy the decks and really beautiful gardens that surround the cabin. There are tons of things to do very close and our own space rather than a crowded hotel or resort was exactly what we wanted.
