Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 bath, sleeps 8, a beautiful beach on Sebago Lake

Spacious 4 bedroom shorefront cottage on Sebago Lake! Large, sunny kitchen and cozy living room. 2 full baths, entertainment room. Beautiful views, sandy beach, private lakeside dock and boat mooring. Great fishing and boating. Short drive to hiking, biking and local general store. Boat rentals and other water activities close by. 45 minute drive to all that Portland has to offer or to outlet shopping in Freeport (LL Bean).

Breezy in July and August is what Maine summers are about. Some times Southern air dominates with hot hazy days of summer. More often, though friendly Northern air, dry with 85 degree days cool nights are just about perfect. June is off season and a delightful mix of lingering Spring and the promise of Summer. Bring a sweater and a bathing suit. Sun on the beach or snuggle by the fire, June is an adventure, September is also off season and the best kept secret in Maine. Days are warm, nights are cool, and the lake is at its best. June through September at Breezy you have a bonus of fields and wood to walk or explore on the property. Travel a little and take in great shopping, antiquing, golf, watch the eagles and eaglets by boat (less than a mile away). In June and September good restaurants are still open but the crowds have taken their children back to school. In case of inclement weather you can keep up with sports on cable, play cards and/or sit by the fire. Read a good book (we have a collection of books accumulated over the years - you can take a book, if you leave a book).

Great, but...

  • 3 of 5

This house in is a lovely spot, in a little cove on Sebago. It shares a crescent beach with a few other houses, but feels like a sweet enclave, wooded and far from any main road. The house has some neat features, like two decks overlooking the lake, and a two refrigerators. But we did have some issues, so you should rent this house with eyes open. First, the owner (who lives far from Maine) just stopped replying to my emails. Weirdly even when I wrote a few days before coming to ask where we find the key when we arrive, he simply did not respond. So we showed up and figured it out and had no problem getting in. But still. Second, the back part of the house had just been renovated, and although I'm guessing it is now nicer than what stood before, it was odd to find it unfinished. All the wood was raw, and the the finishing touches just were not done. Also, the room with the double bed has a frame from long ago when beds were smaller, so the mattress was jammed in so tight it was nearly impossible to get the sheets on without ripping them. Last complaint: the owner supplies nothing. You bring your own sheets and towels, which is annoying, but ok. But there was no toilet paper, no soap, no paper towel, no spices. Nada. No candles or matches or flashlights in case of power outage (which we in fact had). A few niceties would go a long way. We've rented many houses through Homeaway, VRBO, etc... And I've never seen a place with less in it. With a little TLC (or maybe a rental manager), this place could be very nice.

Good time

  • 4 of 5

The area in Sebago is beautiful with lots of stuff to do nearby. We may have been the first renters of the season, the house was a little cobwebby but very cozy. Plenty of fans in every room for ambient noise since the house is pretty creaky! The deck is awesome, fun times at the firepit and playing games on the awesome kitchen table. The private beach is nice and relaxing, would go again! The only negative comment I would make is the owner's dogs like to come down and "mark their territory" on your vehicle and anything you have outside.

Sebago Lake is about 40 miles from Portland and Freeport in southern/western Maine. The lake is a deep lake, is crystal clear and has a sandy bottom. Great for fishing, boating and other water activities. Boat/jet-ski rentals are close-by. Three 18-hole golf courses in the area. A couple of miniture golf courses, shopping and restaurants are all in near-by Naples. Hiking, biking and a State Park are all a short drive from the house. There is a drive-in theater and movie theater in Bridgeton (18 mi).

Other Activities: boating, parasailing, jet-skiing, eagle watching, fishing, canoeing, kayaking
