About Shawn

We love this little log cabin- A great getaway any time of year!

We love to escape the desert heat with Maxwell (pictured), to A Sweet Pine Cabin as often as we can. We think it is the quintessential mountain cabin and is exactly what we dreamed a cabin should be. We've had a blast decorating and upgrading this vintage 'Maltby' cabin with the help of our professional designer gal-pals... Thank you P&S!!

'Maltby' is the most well-known mid-century architect of Big Bear; during the heyday of the 1940's. In addition to small utterly charming custom residential log cabins, Maltby did many vintage hotels etc. during that period. Just pick-up any of the historical books on Big Bear and you'll be likely see some of his more 'monumental' architecture!.

We chose to maintain many original vintage elements, as it really adds to the charm while maintaining the authenticity of this very 'real' log-cabin.

We also really wanted a place that had plenty of room for pets, as we are BIG animal lovers, small & large, they are definitely members of the family too!

Shawn purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Shawn chose Big Bear

We fell in love with the style and charm of A Sweet Pine Cabin. And the large fenced yard is perfect for our 4-legged family members.

What makes this cabin unique

relax, eat, relax, eat, relax.... go ski, go fish, go boating, then more relaxing, and oh yeah, hiking and baking fresh apple pies/tarts from the apples on the tree in the yard...

It was a very nice cabin. It is in a very peaceful and quiet neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The property is very nice and well kept. It is close to all the attractions. It is set in a nice and peaceful neighborhood. Nice yard that is fenced in for you if you have kids or pets to let them just roam around the yard. It is exactly like the pictures so you are going to get what you are looking at. The owner is very helpful and is very understanding if you bring up anything to him or have questions about anything. They answer in a very timely matter.

Owner's Response: We try very hard to provide a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all our guests. Unfortunately this guest started out their stay complaining directly to vrbo that our cabin did not have a washer/dryer which was a shock and odd since we don't advertise having one. They also said our TV was broken which it is not and we provide a welcome book with instructions on how to operate both TVs. Not sure about the comment regarding not having a pan to cook as we have several or the time comment, yes there is a check in and out time as any rental would have. They also did not contact us about having any plumbing issues. We would have addressed any problem. After they left our housekeepers alerted us and found that the guests had clogged the sink with rice and the toilet pipe had frozen over night, both of which were fixed promptly (we have heat tape installed on the pipe now). To top things off, upon their departure they hosed their car off in the driveway (in single digit temps) causing a sheet of ice which we had to pay to have removed before our next guests could park that same day. All in all a very unpleasant and costly rental experience for us.
