We are behind the 2nd gate, a couple of miles down Governors Drive on a small cul-de-sac on the left as you head towards the world famous Ocean Course (golf).

Freshly painted throughout!

Fully equipped, this private home is used primarily for our family and does not feel like a rental home. New master bath, Jacuzzi tub, travertine stone shower with 2 shower heads. Master has views of marsh, 2nd queen bed suite at the other end of the house offers great privacy. 3rd bedroom and bath also features a queen bed. Living Room, Den/Country Eat-in kitchen on Marsh, Formal Dining.

Hi-speed Internet, 40' flat screen, dvd player, stereo.

You'll come to Kiawah for the beach, tennis and golf. You'll fall in love with the views from our house!

Kiawah is a mile wide and 10 miles long. We are on the marsh side of the island looking back to 'the mainland'. We are a 10-12 minute bike ride and a 5 min car ride from the beach. Bike path across the street. Close to nature preserve with Observation Tower. The marsh offers wonderful wild life views - daily herons & egrets, regular deer & a lucky glance of bobcat & fox. This is the most relaxing and tranquil views on the island. Experience something different & unique to the low country.

Summer 2014

6 family members (ages 32 to 90) stayed here for a week last summer. All agreed it was the perfect accommodation -tastefully decorated, plenty of space and room for privacy. Beautiful views of the marsh, wildlife and sunsets - got some great pictures. Easy walk to nearby park. Peaceful, quiet neighborhood. One of our most enjoyable vacations. The owner was easy to contact and quick to respond to any questions - definitely recommend!

Our Home Away From Home for February, March and April

  • 5 of 5

This is our fifth year renting from Doug and all I can say is that the house works really well for us. The house is situated in a cul de sac and all along the backside of the house are windows and glass doors that offer stunning views of the marsh. A day doesn’t go by without colorful wildlife flying overhead or deer treckking across the marsh.

The interior of the house is spacious and comfortable. The master bedroom & bath are at one end of the house and the guest bedrooms & bathrooms are located at the other end. This makes it nice for guests to have their privacy and vice versa. The kitchen is a little dated but is complete with all the necessary appliances, dishes, etc. My husband has created his own work area at one end of the master bedroom and finds it comfortable. We used the dinning room once in five years because we prefer to sit in the kitchen-family area where we can enjoy the view and natural light. We have never used the living room. It is just my husband, our yellow lab and myself.

The beach and golf courses are within a five- minute drive. The bike path is less than a minute from the bottom of the driveway. The grocery store and boutiques are a 10-15 minute drive.

Doug has been a great landlord. He is attentive and returns calls in a timely manner to assist in resolving any issues.

We hope to return for a sixth time…!

The views for this home are amazing! A wonderful way to wake and enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine enjoying the views on the deck! The owner was very helpful and responsive to any questions we may have had during our stay. The home is nicely furnished with quality antiques and gives you a feel of warmth and home. We recommend this property

About Doug

Our family has owned property on Kiawah for better than 30 years. We know the 'In's and Out's' and can help with all your questions.

Why Doug chose Vanderhorst Plantation

Kiawah offers something for everyone. Homes here might have a woods view, overlook a golf course, or be on a lagoon. If it is on the 'marsh' it might be an interior marsh lot, an exterior lot without much tidal change or if you're lucky enough it might have a 'big' marsh view which offers substantial change with each tide and have great westward facing sunset views! The marsh is truly spectacular and a facet of the low-country one can only come to appreciate by experiencing!

What makes this house unique

I am able to work from the house at the kitchen desk and enjoy the fantastic scenery of the marsh all day long.
