Townsend is the Peaceful Side of the Smokies and has a lot to offer. There is The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Tuckaleechee Caverns, Little River, Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center Museum, Little River Railroad Museum and Music Festivals. Townsend is a small mountain town with a lot of history and activities to explore. There is hiking, fishing, swimming, tubing, biking, horseback riding and yet it is close to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. So you are close to all the activities or you can relax in a seclude mountain cabin and just enjoy the mountain views. We have it all.

Cabin history: Blue Smoke Mountain Cabins are located 3.4 miles from Townsend and 5 miles from The Great Smoky Mountain Park and 17 miles from Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. There are only three cabins and my home on the mountain so each cabin is secluded with its own private mountain view. Our cabins are handcrafted and equipped with everything you will need to feel at home. We like to call it roughing it easy. We are family owned and operated. We are open year round.

The wildlife: We have done our best to preserve the wild beauty we found here. We have all manner of wildlife that roam our mountain and call Blue Smoke Mountain their home. The birds will sing to you all day and the crickets will lull you to sleep at night. You really don't want to miss the firefly show each night. These mountains surely have it all.

About Linda Brady

I came to Townsend as so many others on a vacation . It was my first trip to the mountains . I remember it was in June and all the flowers were in bloom! What a site I fell in love with Townsend right then and there. The people were so kind and helpful I felt right at home.

It became a every year thing for us to come back to enjoy the mountains.

Then in 1997 I was lucky enough to move here and start to build Blue Smoke Mountain Cabins. It was the best time of my life. With each cabin that was finished my roots grew deeper into these wonderful mountains I call home. Each day was something new and now I get to share that experience with each and everyone that come to stay at my cabins.

Linda Brady purchased this cabin in 1996

Why Linda Brady chose East

Blue Smoke Mountain Cabins are located just 3.4 miles out of Townsend on a private mountain. Each cabin is handcrafted and filled with antiques and handmade quilts. Each has its own private mountain view, hot tub jucuzzi and wood burning fireplace. I like to call it roughing it easy.

What makes this cabin unique

Weather you spend your day hiking the mountains, touring Cades Cove , swimming, fishing and tubing in the Little River or maybe taking in Dollywood, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg you will have a great relaxing cozy cabin to welcome you home. It is the best of both worlds.

These cabin are not your usual cookie cutter cabins. Each one has taken on its own personality as it was being built. Sometimes it was the view that made us build it in that certain place like Wind Rider Lodge that sits at the highest part of the mountain. When you sit out on the wrap a round porch you may be looking down and watching the Redtail Hawks teaching their young to fly or just enjoy looking out over the panoramic mountain view of the Smokies and listening to the birds singing.

Moonshine Ridge is so cozy and warm like a soft summer breeze. It just seems to soothe the soul with its handmade quilts and wood burning fireplace. It gets its name not from the moonshine that was once abundant around here but from the way the big old full moon shines down on it and bathes it with soft moonlight.

Last but not lease is Cherokee Breeze, it sits out on the point of my mountain so it is totally secluded and has awesome mountain views from both porches. You can sit in the large hot tub and enjoy the view til the cows come home and no one will bother you. I named it Cherokee because all the Indian artifacts hanging on the walls came from the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina and if you open the doors there is always a soft breeze blowing through.

So each cabin does have its own personality weather is the view, its seclusion or the coziness of it each one is unique in itself.

Perfect for a casual big family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is cozy & felt like home. It's secluded & peaceful. Pigeon Forge is only a 30 min drive away if you are looking to do more. My kids loved it, the cabin is beautiful & user friendly. Ms. Linda was friendly & easy to deal with. She lives close by, so she is available to assist with anything you may need. This is not a "fancy" place, it is a comfortable place... which is exactly what we were looking for! It was a perfect Christmas experience!

Did not live up to expectations

  • 1 of 5

My fiancee and I rented the Windrider cabin at the end of September for a weekend getaway. We arrived at 2:40, 20 minutes before check in and the cleaning lady was still there, told her we could wait since we were slightly early but she left after about 5 minutes.

The first thing we noticed was that the hot tub was not on the deck as shown in the picture on homeaway.com and on their website, it was on a separate structure right next to the access road. After seeing the hot tub was not private, we decided to use the jacuzzi upstairs.

It filled up nicely and was a great temperature but after being in it for about 5 minutes a huge centipede came out of the faucet. We decided we wouldn't be using the jacuzzi again. There was also an outlet missing a cover next to one of the beds upstairs.

Since the jacuzzi was out of the question we went back to the hot tub and stepped in dog poop on the walk over which tracked onto the hot tub deck. The hot tub itself was very clean and worked properly but unfortunately you could not see the wonderful view unless you were sitting on the edge with only your feet in the water.

That night we made dinner and noticed there were dirty dishes still in the sink. We went to the cupboard to get clean dishes and saw that the top two plates were dirty as well. While opening the fridge we also noticed there were no batteries in the smoke detector.

After eating we were going to take a shower but the shower was not in any condition to be used. We then decided to watch a movie but due to the lack of cleanliness we had seen, we didn't feel comfortable using the couch so we covered it with a sheet that we brought from home. The television was outdated and there was something wrong with the picture. Both remotes were dirty and missing battery covers.

When looking through the rest of the cabin, almost every surface was covered in dust. After the movie we went to bed and discovered the pillowcases had yellow and red stains. Luckily we had pillowcases of our own. We tried turning on the fans but quickly turned them off after it looked like they were ready to fall off.

Our stay was cut short by the condition of the cabin, we had just gotten engaged and wanted a romantic getaway and were very disappointed. We were planning on staying two nights but left after the first.

On the bright side, the view was incredible but that's the extent of it.

Due to our experience we will never rent from Blue Smoke Mountain Cabins again.

Fantastic family getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this cabin during a getaway with my mom, sister, mother in law, and niece. The beds were comfortable, and the only challenge was deciding who got the beds in the open living areas. The cabin had a great kitchen and dining area that was put to use daily! I'd recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great deal and a relaxing time with breathtaking views.

Our whole family loved this cabin. It was absolutely perfect for our reunion.

  • 5 of 5

There was plenty of room for all of us. It was very spacious and the downstairs area was nice and open. Perfect for our family get together. It was clean and very well decorated. The ladies of our group kept finding little things placed all over that they just loved. I loved sitting out on the back porch, looking at the mountains, and having my morning coffee. It was very relaxing, especially the hot tub. We highly recommend this cabin and hope we can return again soon.

Townsend is a small mountain town located at the gates of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We are known as the quiet side of the mountains.

There are so many great thing about our town I just can't list then all. If you want to experience staying in a secluded mountain cabin with great mountain views , fish in a river that flows straight out of the pure clean mountain streams of the Smokies, Hike trails that will carry you to the mountain tops so you can see forever or down through mountain coves that will lead you past old log cabin home sites dating back to the 1800's to cascading waterfalls spilling cool clear mountain water into a pure mountain stream. Where you can fish , swim and tube till your hearts content. Well that is where you will find our hometown. Nestled in the very heart of the Smokey Mountains. A place where you wake up to the sounds of the birds singing and go to sleep listening to the crickets lulling you sleep. Townsend is a little piece of heaven on earth. It's a place where you can unwind, regroup and reconnect with the ones you love. There is so much to do there are biking trails, Cades Cove, Tuckalechee Caverns, Heritage Museum, Restaurants, Deli Why there is just about everything you could want to make your vacation perfect. If you decide you want to spend a day taking in shows, Dollywood and the shops Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are just a short drive away. Then at days end you have your own cozy secluded mountain cabin waiting to welcome you home.
