The Log House at Turner Bay
Location: Turner Bay, Coeur d’Alene Lake, Idaho, USA (30 minutes from downtown Coeur d’Alene, and 60 minutes from Spokane, Washington.)
Accommodations: The Log House has two bedrooms upstairs, and a new couch in the living room that folds into a double bed. It sleeps six. It has one full bathroom with a tub/shower. It also has a full feature outhouse for the more adventurous.
The log house sits in the middle of seven and a half acres up the hill from Turner Bay on the east side of Lake Coeur d'Alene. It's the perfect place to get away from the world. You can't see any neighbors. Reading and visiting on the front porch is a great way to start the day. There are plenty of comfy chairs and a two person porch swing. Hiking, biking, picnicking, and camping are right out the front door. There is a public dock at Turner Bay that is a two and a half minute drive down the hill. It's a good place to fish and swim and is usually deserted during the week.
The next bay down the lake that is big enough to have a name is Carlin Bay. It is about a six minute drive from Turner Bay. There is a bar and a restaurant there that is usually open in the summer, but the main attraction is a nice little public beach right next to the resort. The beach is almost always empty, and it also has a grassy picnic area and public restrooms.
Twenty five minutes down Hwy 97 from the log house is the village of Harrison. It's a fun little town to explore. It is a great place for boating and bicycling. You can rent whatever you need- motor boats, canoes, kayaks, bicycles, etc. The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes goes right through Harrison. It is a nice place to spend an afternoon. It is like going back in time. The south end of the lake isn't busy like up around Cd'A.
Getting to and from the log house might be the best part of the whole deal. You come and go on Hwy 97, which is also the Lake Coeur d'Alene Scenic Biway. Lots of great lake views. The log house works great for a home base for your activities.
Here is a note we just found from our last guests: 'What a perfect getaway! It was such a nice break, with beautiful morning views of Coeur d'Alene Lake and quiet nights around the fire...Thanks for a peaceful & restful weekend away, we look forward to our next stay at the 'home away from home.' Late summer, early September is a gorgeous time to be in Coeur d'Alene - quieter and less touristy, but still hot enough for swimming and boating. The Log House is exactly as it appears in the photos. It's a real log cabin, very well built, exceptionally clean and comfortable, with lots of little amenities included. The porch is a lovely place for morning coffee and reading. The upstairs level has one double bed and two twin beds, divided by two dividers, with a pull-out couch on the main level. The wood stove kept the place warm on the one or two chilly nights. The cabin is not right on the water, but has easy access to the public dock at Turner Bay, which is where I met some of the locals on late afternoon swims on hot days. The kitchen has everything you would need, plus there's a charcoal grill, an outdoor picnic table, laundry facilities, and lots of wood available for the fire pit. Close drive to Harrison, for bike rentals and a day on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, to Mineral Ridge for hiking, side trips to Coeur d'Alene city beach, Silverwood Theme Park, and even the beautiful public beach at Sandpoint. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a private, comfortable week-long getaway.
Our family stayed at the Log House for 6 days in August. We found it to be exactly as advertised. It was very peaceful, rustic, yet comfortable and clean. The property is exrtremely private, with rarely a sight or sound of a neighbor. This was a little bit of an adjustment at first, but we quickly got used to it. The front porch is a great place to relax mornings, afternoons and evenings. We were surprised to find a couple of live frogs appearing in the bathroom, but the kids found it to be very enchanting and we released them to the out-doors only to find them returning somehow nearly every day. The views from upstairs and the fire-pit area were especially fantastic. We were treated with visiting deer and Moose on the property during our stay. We especially enjoyed side trips to Harrison for bike riding, and Coeur D'Alene for swimming/shopping. This property is a great choice for folks that enjoy privacy and nature, but want some of the comforts of home.
