About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

We are located in the beautiful development of Rancho del Oro, on the Western edge of Ajijic Village. It is only one and a half blocks from an excellent bus service, or a short 20 minute walk to the center of the Village.

Our Casita is 1,650 square feet with two large bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen/living room and a huge 630 sq. ft. covered terrace. One bedroom has two queen-size beds, two large closets, adjacent private bathroom and a sitting area with a wood fireplace. The second bedroom is identical, but with two double beds, with a sofa bed and an optional inflatable bed. A large swimming pool and a charcoal and propane BBQ grills are shared with Owners and are available for the guests' use. The covered one-car garage, accessed by an electronic gate, adjoins the Casita. On-street parking is also permitted.

The weather is almost perfect every day, with some rain expected from May through September. Fortunately, it rains mainly by night, so that golfing, hiking, bird-watching, horseback riding and sight-seeing are rarely affected. We have found that some guests can almost pay for their vacation by taking advantage of the excellent, and relatively inexpensive, medical and dental facilities which are available locally. For the less adventurous, there are numerous restaurants available to cater for most tastes at very reasonable prices, interesting shopping, art galleries, a street market on Wednesdays, or just people-watching at the village Plaza to while away the time. For the even more laid-back, there is always the option to lounge by the pool and experiment with making the perfect margarita, or just submerge your body in a double-sized hammock on the terrace with a good book. We have completely rebuilt the 'palapa', which now has a wet bar and adjacent bathroom. It is ideal for watching our fantastic sunsets or entertaining your new-found friends.

Keywords: A large two-bedroom Casita (guest house) at the bottom of a tropical garden.

Another Two Months in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This is our sixth year staying with Amy and Aivars. It is like Returning Home for us...to family. Our two month vacation flew by. Amy and Aivars always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. One case in point had Amy helping for several hours obtaining information for a contact with Mexican Customs on our behalf. They are the perfect hosts. The casita is well appointed, and the covered terrace has always been where we spend our time and enjoy our meals when not dining out at one of the many restaurants available in Ajijic. The gardens are beautiful...with many species of birds and butterflies. Local bus services are available a few minutes from the casita. It is a 20 minute walk to the centre of Ajijic. Groceries are available at the Super Mini a 5 minute walk. We can recommend Yves Restaurant, Alex's Pasta Bar, Perry's Pizza and Monte Cristo's to name a few. Mona and Lucy, the two resident Golden Labs, were our constant companions. If you are looking for day excursions, book a trip with Charter Tours and visit Tequila, the Teuchitlan Pyramids, Mazamitla, or the trip Around the Lake. We would highly recommend this Casita to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation in paradise with wonderful hosts.

Exceeded All Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Amy&Aivars lovely casita for the month of December, 2015. This was our first visit to Ajijic, so we were excited and a bit nervous to see the place we had booked online. Well, everything was absolutely perfect! The casita is simply beautiful, the grounds and pool lovely, and our hosts were friendly, extremely helpful and fun ! Although they afforded us all the privacy we wanted, they were always there if we had a question, needed help, or were looking for a recommendation for restaurants, activities, services, etc! The casita was comfortable, homey, and a joy to stay in. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and there were books, movies, satellite TV and good internet. We spent many happy hours on the beautiful veranda, dining al fresco, sitting by the fire in the chiminea in the evenings, or just relaxing and enjoying the view, the birds, and the beautiful weather. The maid and gardener kept the casita and the grounds immaculate. The casita is about a 15 minute walk to downtown Ajijic where you will find a lively, charming, vibrant town to explore to your heart's content. The area is very safe and we never had a moment's worry. There was also a local mini supermarket a few minutes walk away where you could buy just about anything you needed. Two local weekly markets (one organic market and one farmer's and gift market) where you could get just about anything! The locals are also friendly and helpful, and the food and service at the restaurants was fantastic! We would often stroll along the malecon (boardwalk) along the lakefront to enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and the mountains and to watch all the storks, pelicans and other waterbirds. We have fallen in love with Ajijic and plan to return many times. I would highly recommend Amy and Aivars' casita to anyone, it is absolutely lovely and has everything you could want in a home-away-from-home. Thank you Amy and Aivars, we look forward to seeing you next year !!

Another Wonderful Escape to Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th year visiting Amy and Aivars in Ajijic, and our first two month vacation ever. It was also our first time driving from Ontario Canada to Ajijic. We had a wonderful time. Amy and Aivars are the perfect hosts, and are always ready to assist with anything that may be needed. When we needed to call home on a land-line phone, they made their personal phone available to us, which was so greatly appreciated. When the weather turned cold in March for three days, firewood was made available for the chiminea to keep us warm in the evenings as we sat outside on the covered patio. The off street parking for the car was also appreciated. Amy makes the best Paella in the village, which we enjoyed for dinner one evening with friends. Aivars is the author of some of the best homemade limoncello jam and beverages you will enjoy anywhere. Lucy and Mona, the two resident Golden Labs, visited with us for every meal which we ate on the covered patio. Should you choose this casita for your vacation, you will not be disappointed. The gardens and beautiful, and songbirds and humming birds are abundant. There are fiestas in the plaza, hiking in the mountains, tianguis market days in Chapala, Ajijic and Jocotopec, trips to Guadalajara and so much more to keep you involved. You can walk anywhere...it is very safe, or take local buses as very reasonable rates. We have booked again for yet another vacation next year.

A Wonderful Introduction to the Lake Chapala Area

  • 5 of 5

We loved this compact, well-designed and well-equipped casita located up a hill in west Ajijic. The 25-30 minute walk to the centre of Ajijic gave us the opportunity to explore back streets and to fall in love with the malecon, Lake Chapala and the surrounding mountains. If you don't like walking, you will need a car.

Amy & Aivars are terrific hosts. They offered wonderful advice, arranged transportation and quickly addressed any issues that we identified. They anticipated our needs and wants.

We loved the skylight over the beds, the gas fireplaces in the bedrooms, the open air terrace with sitting area and dining table, the artwork and books, and the beautiful grounds.

Lovely Casita

  • 5 of 5

Great location. I like to walk and found it an easy walk into town (25 minutes) and a beautiful one if you go along the lake. Felt very safe, the house was well secured. The terrace is beautiful and we spent many hours on it, we especially liked the Mexican chimney for a cozy fire outside in the evening. The owners were very helpful and thoughtful, going above and beyond to make our vacation perfect. The month flew by.
