Remote cabin on Moose Lake
This is a lovely property on a very nice lake. It is very quiet and serene. There is no traffic or hustle bustle. The house is nicely appointed and they welcomed our dog. I would definitely stay here again.
the lack of maintenance on this property was disappointing
We were disappointed with lack of lake view, trees need to be trimmed. We were obviously the first to use the house for the year the pilot light on stove was not lit but filling house with toxic stinky gas that we thought was a dead mouse! Thank goodness nothing blew up when we ignited a burner for first night dinner! Cobwebs all over ceiling with something dropping wood shavings all over main bed. At least 3 windows did not have screens in the main living area, very important when trying to get stench out of cabin. A few other screens had holes, mosquitoes tend to find them instantly! We will not be staying there again, and do not recommend this property to anyone!
We're sorry you were disappointed in your stay. We had been there the weekend before you and the stove was working fine, however pilot lights are occasionally impacted by wind and need to be re-lit. Of the 16 windows and 3 doors, we intentionally leave 3 windows without screens as they do open onto the deck, thereby making it hazardous for the users of the deck.
The Wisconsin DNR requires that in our area we leave 70 feet of untouched and unspoiled lake shore and yard buffer 75 feet back from the shoreline for every 100 feet of shore. We have chosen to do so, and have wooden pathways down to the lake which include 2 levels of deck with seating, another deck by the wetland, and also 2 docks by which to enjoy an up-close view of the lake in addition to what is visible from the picture window in the living room, and from the large cabin deck. Most people appreciate the fact that we have a wilderness cabin, on a wilderness lot on a wilderness lake and that we have elected not to do the manicured lawn with designer shrubs in lieu of native species.
We sincerely wish you would have contacted us at the beginning of your stay with any issues, as recommended on the VRBO website, (any issues with operating the cabin should be communicated to the owners within 2 hours allowing for a quick response by maintenance). We certainly would have assisted with the stove and brought out the fans located in each bedroom if necessary.
As for ceiling cobwebs, I personally cleaned the property extensively, then had the professional crew in after me, and am offended by and feel your statement unreasonable stating that the property was anything other than clean..
As for the decision to not rent again, we hope you find your next vacation rental more to your preferred style.
This is such a nice property with a huge yard and lots of shoreline. The lake is gorgeous and peaceful. The owner obviously takes great pride in his property as everything is well appointed, updated and maintained. It was a great weekend and I would highly recommend! Be sure to visit Louie's for a drink and a cocktail right across the lake! It's a bit of a drive for supplies (about 15 minutes) so plan ahead but, I personally prefer a less-busy and quiet area when getting away from it all. The property owners on the lake have even maintained a spot on an island where you can pull up your boat and get out, cook, etcetera. It's very nice!!
Thanks for the kind review, glad you enjoyed your stay.
Great week in the autumn north woods!
Our family of 6 adults met up from 3 different states here in Wisconsin after finding the Flying Moose cabin online. We really weren't sure what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised. We thoroughly enjoyed all the inside and outside activity options. We like quiet boating so we used the canoe, rowboat and paddle boat every day, but then rented a pontoon boat from the Mystic Moose for one day just to see more of the lake and try some different fishing spots. We spent 2 half days in Hayward and fell in love with the charming businesses on the side streets. We loved Wests Dairy, Tremblay's Olde Tyme Candy store, Hayward Bakery & Cheese store, Sophie's Dog Bakery, & Itasca Leathergoods. We must have walked almost every mile of the walking/hiking trails across the street from the cabin because our sons' 2 dogs loved them so much! We used the fire pit down near the water almost every night. We saw several bald eagles, one being in the pine tree right on the property!
Mike, the owner was very easy to work with and make the whole experience simple for us. We would definitely recommend this rental to folks who like privacy and outdoor space. It's at least 30 minutes from the town of Hayward so preplanning grocery store trips is helpful.
My first trip to the North Woods was fantastic. The cabin was really just perfect. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the pots & pans that you could need. It was only 2 of us with our 2 small dogs but there was plenty of room for more. The lake was very peaceful and it was great to be able to leave the boat docked and just hop in every morning for fishing. Having Louie's Landing just across the way was great for a bite to eat and to refuel the boat. Also, Jackson Tally Ho down the road was a nice find. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much Mike for all the attention to detail in the cabin. I hope that we can stay again in the future!
9 mile long wilderness lake with 3 rivers coming in and one leaving the lake, all with access for canoes and fishing
