Great place, great host. Swimming off the deck, good access via boat to Bocas Town, just far enough away to relax. Brown is happy to take you to town on the boat anytime up to twice per day, so head in for dinner, drinks, then back to the house for a swim. WIFI, all necessities provided. Good access to Starfish beach - a must see. Even comes with a cool dog “Winston”. Owner provided excellent communications, services, helped with tours, questions, etc. Thanks, Mark!
Secluded and great views!
Roomy and great views- a quick boat ride from Bocas Town and easy to get back to Bocas Town. Senor Brown was wonderful-took us to and from Bocas Town regardless of weather. Great swimming and kayaking from the deck. This is an off-the-grid rental and visitors should adjust their power uses to that reality-we had two rainy days but we didn't really have any issues since there is a generator that can boost the available power. Conserve. Only negative: ALL the linens need to be replaced, they are very worn.
Thanks for the review. I take it you were in Kate's group. I already have new sheets to replace the ones your group used. I actually had them before your visit. I was very accommodating to your group in a few ways. Even though I wouldn't consider the sets "very worn" you got them because I bent my rules of no dogs allowed so a member of your group could bring their dog. Like I said I was very accommodating and was only protecting myself. Thanks again for your visit.
Amazing vacation. The house was incredible. I stayed there bymeself (well with their dog Winston) and it was incredible. Loved the house and the views (specially sunrise). Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking. The owner was always available to answer my questions.
Really loved staying there as I needed to deplug from the city life. It was heaven and would be going back one day.
Thank you for staying with us. Glad you had a great time and was a to "deplug from city Life". Easy to do out there. Please come back when you can. Cheers, Mark
Always wanted to stay in a house over the water...jackpot!
4 adults, a 14 year-old and 12 year-old boy stayed here for 4 days and it was pretty spectacular.
You need a boat ride to get anywhere (and the caretaker, Brown, gets you into Bocas Town whenever you need it) but if you want to see marine life, you needn't leave the reef in front of the house to see the best the area has to offer. Whether you kayak or snorkel or both, plentiful equipment is provided. We saw dozens of species of reef fish, barracuda (2 ft long here), lobster, crab, jellies, nurse sharks (harmless), southern stingrays, a spotted eagle ray, and while sitting on the porch, dolphins would swim by once in the morning, midday, and before dark. We took other tours but nothing was better than what we saw right out in front of our place.
As for land critters the noseeums (hard-to-see tiny flies) are of a minor nuisance at dawn and dusk and maybe if it's really overcast. Bug spray keeps many of them away and you don't notice them land. Plus, their bites only itch on some people. They aren't disease carrying so we didn't care. The only other animal we saw was Winston- the house security system. He's a polite, super-chill hound dog who minds his business but will definitely not turn down petting.
At night, the bioluminescence in the water in front of the house was phenomenal. It lasts about 20 or 30 minutes and it makes the evening. The beds have nets whether they need it or not and there are ceiling and floor fans in every room so the air moves and sleeping is surprisingly quite comfortable.
During our stay, internet was patchy- a problem Mark attended to exhaustively. Even with it on the fritz, it did what we needed it to do- check business email once a day. We never came close to running out of water. It's the tropics and the supply is from a rain catch basin. Clean and safe for drinking. The toilets are composting so while it's not glamour, it's no work, clean, and easy. The kitchen has all the basics for cooking meals- pots, pans, strainer, utensils, silverware, plates, bowls, etc. we cooked our own meals all but one night.
If you want nightlife or you go on vacation to eat out a lot, or want to be pampered with air conditioning, and turndown service, and fresh towels every day, maybe a spot in Bocas Town may be better suited to your tastes. But if getting away from things, unplugging, and immersing yourself in a marine ecosystem one step off your front porch is your idea of heaven, you've found your Valhalla.
Thanks for the review and for leaving the house in great shape. Glad your group had a great time. You guys were a perfect fit for the house. Sorry about the internet issues. I changed internet providers so it now up and running again. Come back when you can.
Winston's wonderful casa!
If you are looking for quiet, this is your place. We love this house with its large wrap around porch and terrific views. We spent every morning amazed at how quiet and lovely it was. The best swimming is right off the deck with a small coral Reef for a bit of snorkeling. One morning we woke up with 13 Starfish at our feet! Winston the dog sleeps on the back porch and is a perfect host. We missed him when he went out hunting raccoons.
The caretaker Mr. Brown is so accommodating. He'll give you two boat rides to town a day. We were well taken care of during our stay!
Thanks for the nice review. You two were perfect guest and thanks for leaving the house in great condition. Brown enjoyed you as well and says hello. Please come back when you can and I will give you a discount.
We had an amazing time at this house. My only regret is we didn't stay longer. It is quiet, well attended and the host could not be more attentive. We were four from Canada and snorkeled, kayaked and explored the area. Every evening some local fisherman would bring lobster for sale at a very reasonable price. We looked forward to their arrival everyday. Total peacefulness. I want to go back
Thanks for the review and thank you for being great guests. Glad you two had a great relaxing time. Please come back when you can.
The area of Bocas Del Toro is a wonderful archipelago. On one side is the open ocean for those who like the waves: surfers; fishermen; etc. The other side is protected by the islands and an extensive reef system creating a very large calm water area. Rather like a lake but filled with all the wonders of the Caribbean sea. The opposite direction is the mainland of Panama with views of the mountains that constitute the continental divide. We are very lucky to have the best of all worlds.
Other Activities: shopping, boating, kayaking, health/beauty spa
