The Spotted Grouper - Old Florida Beach Bungalow

Bedrooms 2
Space 900 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Spotted Grouper is a delightful Old Florida beach bungalow surrounded by twisted Sand Live Oaks. We are located on Bald Point near Panacea, Florida in a small, quiet beach neighborhood along the Forgotten Coast, surrounded by Bald Point State Park.

The house is 100 yards from the Gulf- to get there just walk down Grouper Street to the water, or use the boardwalk behind the house - there are no streets to cross. The fishing is fantastic, as are the local restaurants and seafood markets.

We are located 45 miles south of Tallahassee, 340 miles due south of Atlanta. The Spotted Grouper sleeps 4 with 1 queen bed and 1 double bed. Sheets and towels are provided.

Note that the Spotted Grouper is 'self-cleaning', ie our guests clean the house themselves on departure. All supplies are provided, as is a cleaning checklist.

Recent updates: Pine floors, new carpet, internet.

Quite, Peaceful, Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

Had a great time at the Spotted Grouper and can't wait to come back. Home is clean, cute, in good repair, very comfortable, well equipped and functional. Location is really great, if it is peace and quite you are looking for in a coastal vacation. We had a GREAT time. Jill Carr

Charming little cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at the Spotted Grouper several times in the past and it never disappoints! As always it was clean and comfy. There's a great view of the ocean from several rooms and a screened porch where you can sit in the morning and enjoy the sunrise. The home is close to lots of things to do including Bald Point State Park, Ochlockonee State Park, Wakulla Springs and closer to home the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab. Lots of great beaches close by including Mashes Sands. Tons of great seafood places like Angelo and Sons, Tropical Trader Shrimp and Coastal Restaurant. If you need to change it up from seafood try Hamaknockers for BBQ. We saw a bear right down the road on the way in one evening. Lots of good birds around too!

We'll be back!

Nicely restored and maintained property.

If you are looking for nightlife, bars and tourist attractions, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for relaxing downtime and a clean, quiet, comfortable place to unwind, this is it. I have to recommend Posey's for their Seafood. They will even cook your catch fro $8.95/person. I took them sea trout and Flounder. The cheese grits, slaw and hushpuppies are on the money! Not a fancy place by any means but they know seafood.

A delightful cottage with every necessity and lots of bonuses

  • 4 of 5

We loved the floor plan, also the remote location away from traffic and crowds. We only cooked breakfast and one pizza, so dishwashing wasn't a factor. Everything worked - Tv, fans, laundry equipment. Beds slept well. The internet connection was a bit slow at times. The wife likes to take baths so I brought a plastic chair to place in the shower for her. Our biggest disappointment was not seeing a bear, although we heard something attacking a trash can a couple of houses away one night. Both our handwritings suck, so we didn't sign the guest book. Instead, I left a list of bird species found in the area.

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Spotted Grouper was perfect in every way. We loved the location, the beach is a living beach, full of discoveries for our 7-year old daughter - from birds to dolphins to crabs (blue, hermit, ghost) to jumping fish and sting rays and jelly fish. Beautiful sunrises, quiet, and no one around. We stayed for 7 nights and spent most mornings on the beach, and explored the area in some afternoons. St. Georges' island, Apalachicola, the Bald Point state park, and Panacea are definitely worth exploring. St. George's state park has amazing beaches - blue clear water, few people, bigger waves (but no crabs - so, being able to spend some time on both beaches was perfect). We got fresh seafood at both places recommended by the owners in Panacea and had some amazing dinners cooked at the house. Our daughter has been asking us when we are going to go back and we hope it will be soon!
