House, 3 + Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)
Why Russ Keller chose Potrero
After visiting numerous tropical locations including the Florida Keys, Hawaii, Grand Cayman, Cozmel, Cancun and Belize, we came to Costa Rica and fell in love with the country and the people. The people are what make the difference as many places are beautiful with similar weather, but in Flamingo it all came together for us. We never get tired of visiting and maybe one day can spend the winters there.
What makes this House unique
Staying on the beach has it's rewards. Not only will the sound of the surf lull you to sleep, but you can walk in the sand anytime you like and the view of the Pacific is amazing. My hobby is fishing and there is some great fishing right off the beach or from a kayak that can be rented just down the beach. They also rent the fishing equipment and will help you learn how to catch the fish. If your thing is deep sea fishing, there isn't a better place to go than here in my opinion. Last trip out in July 2011, we caught 10 yellowfin tuna, 5 sailfish and 1 mahi mahi. We actually spotted around 40 sailfish on that one trip, many within a cast of the boat. My wife especially loves our back yard and private pool and the two of us spend countless hours there listening to music and reading while listening to the ocean surf. It is also fun to pick up shells on the beach or watch all the birds and iguanas in the back yard. Some months the butterflys are so thick you just can't believe how many can congregate in one place. The shrubbery in our yard seems to attract them. If you enjoy fresh food, the local fruit is incredible and the seafood is outstanding at almost any of the restaurants nearby. You can walk a few blocks to several very good restaurants or drive a few miles to others or you can do the cooking right there at the house if you are so inclined. You might even want to bring a chef in to prepare a meal or two for you at the house.

Great villa super locatio
Casa El Paraiso is beautiful
eight of us, two families, stayed here for two weeks. Our second time on Playa Potrero, in Surfside. we love the beach and the community. Quiet, not overdeveloped, great restaurants and a fantastic long and safe beach for kids. The house was everything we hoped for. Lots of room and well maintained. Nice pool, and great sitting location under a tree at the foot of the property overseeing the ocean. Angie, the maid, and Mino the grounds-keeper were both excellent, and helpful.
Perfect house for a family with young kids or grandkids
The house and grounds were perfectly maintained. The kitchen had everything needed for stay at home cooking and the BBQ was easy to use. Being right on the beach was the best with several places for lunch and dinner an easy beach walk away. Plus the house was cleaned every day! We’ll be back. Mike and Karen
We enjoyed our stay very much
Overall very good. 4th bedroom really for kids and not adults (no windows, no closet, no dresser, not close to common 1/2 bathroom.) Minor issues with pots and pans being warn (ie do not perform as non-stick) and knives have seen much better days. Plenty of dishes and utensils. Sheets and towels were good. This is not a house issue, but a local issue: Paper products like paper towels, tp and napkins are needed in large supply as they breakdown quickly after little more than one use. Short walk to super Merkado grocery store good, and local open air restaurants very nice.
Grounds keeper and cleaning staff very helpful and thorough with their tasks.
Best part: the beach access, the beach and the beach view, and the ocean.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the kitchen stuff. We have to replace the pots and pans and utensils every year due to wear and tear, disappearance, etc. I am headed down to the house this week and will make sure we have newer stuff for our future guests. I will also make sure we have plenty of paper products for future guests. We try to keep everything looking new and updated, but it is not always possible. Thanks for your constructive criticism and feedback.
Did not get to stay long due to family emergency but - beautiful spot on beach! We would come back. Russ is a good guy.
Thanks for your kind words James. Sorry that your trip had to be cut short. Come stay with us again.
Everything was as the pictures showed. The house was very clean and well kept up. The driver from the airport spoke English and answered all our questions. Very polite! We highly recommend having chef cook for us! He prepared our mahi-mahi we caught earlier in the day. Marcos was very quick to respond with all our questions. We walked to the grocery store and restaurants which was a huge plus. We rented a golf cart one day to go check out the surrounding beaches. This was our first time in Costa Rica, overall we loved it!! The food is amazing, the locals are welcoming, and the sunsets are breathtaking.
The negatives: The beaches dark mud color, especially the beach outside of the house. We didn’t want to swim in the water because of the mud. We traveled to the “best beaches” in Costa Rica and they were lighter brown, but still brown. The other negative experience was when we arrived to the house at 2:10pm the maid was still cleaning the house from the previous people. Olivia greeted us at the door when we arrived to let us know the previous people checked out late and she apologized. Very minor, but more of a let down.
Emily, thank you for the review. We apologize for the check -in being delayed a bit, but we do the best we can to get the house spick and span for our new guests. When groups leave on the same day as the new arrivals, it causes challenges sometimes, like in your situation. As for the beaches, most of them in Costa Rica have some volcanic sand in them which makes them brown or tan. I don't think of them as muddy, but it is a fine sand that when mixed with the waves makes the water at the edge of the beach appear brownish. Just a few feet out from shore, the water clears up nicely though. I paddle my kayak almost every day when I am there and normally can see bottom in 15-30 feet of water. We are happy you chose our house and hope you will come stay with us again someday.
