About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Charleston voted Conde Nast's number one world travel destination AGAIN. Enjoy the world-class amenities of at Wild Dunes Resort from the most desirable neighborhood in Wild Dunes, Seaside in the Grand Pavilion. Serenity–by-the-Sea, a Victorian beach cottage re-creation, is set among white picket fences with its own rose garden. Located on a quiet, palm tree-lined cul-de-sac only 100 walking steps from the beach in the most sought-after area of the resort. The home’s architecture evokes a simpler, quieter, relaxed atmosphere to allow enhanced enjoyment of Wild Dunes island living and Charleston’s deep historic tradition.

This 2200-square-foot home, built oversized by the developer, features an open floor plan broken only by the wood-burning fireplace. The main living area, featuring 10-foot ceilings, includes a living room, dining room and kitchen opening to the largest screen porch in Seaside. The porch is large enough for lounging and dining under two ceiling fans and two large skylights.

This spacious house features three bedrooms; two master suites with private baths - one with king bed, the second with queen bed. One master includes a large sitting area with its own TV and DVD player. The third bedroom, located just off the living room, shares the bath that opens to the living area. All beds come complete with luxurious 600 thread-count cotton sheets.

Porches are the central theme of all the Seaside houses. A large front porch with old-fashioned rocking chairs and porch swing is perfect for greeting friends and neighbors walking by on their way to all the social activities at the nearby Grand Pavilion. The expansive back screened porch is perfect for outdoor dining and lounging in softly-cushioned sofas and chairs while still having enough room for the oversized hammock. Even in inclement weather the screen porch offers plenty of space to snooze or read a book while listening to the rain on the tin roof. Eight sets of French doors provide abundant light and access from all rooms to one of the porches.

No vacation home is complete without the required entertainment accessories. A flat screen TV with high-definition cable service in the living room, and flat screeen TVs in all bedrooms allow everyone to view their favorite programming. Wireless high-speed Internet access is included, keeping email available to those who need it.

Staying within the gated community of Wild Dunes affords great relaxation for family members of all ages. Seaside guests also enjoy access to three Grand Pavilion pools and Wild Dunes beaches just steps away. Whether relaxing on the beach, at the pool, or enjoying iced island drinks at the Grand Pavilion, there is something for everyone during your relaxing visit in South Carolina’s Low Country.

Guest Comments

'The house is fabulous - very comfortable and accommodating. It feels like we are sitting in a friend's home not a rental! Our daughter had some girlfriends come visit and we loved eating and talking on the fabulous screen porch. Thank-you for the fresh flowers and evereything you did to make our stay so special. We would love to come back and stay again.' Mike and Linda - Lynchburg, Va.

'Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cottage. We felt like we were visiting someone's home rather than renting a vacation cottage. Your love for this home is very apparent, and we loved it as well. We hope to return, if you'll have us. Thanks again. It was a pleasure to meet you! The fresh roses were wonderful! You're the best!' Larry and Jan - Cleveland, Ohio

'A very comfy, cosy house with extremely accommodating owners. It was a pleasure to meet you! Heaven is definately a little closer in a house by the sea!' Alick and Joan - Ontario, Canada

'Thank-you for renting your home! You have a perfect location for the beach, pools, market and play yard. Thank-you for the movies and games. You provide a beautiful experience and southern hospitality. We look forward to seeing you soon!' Frank and Kim - Cincinnati, Ohio

What makes this house unique

We are oceanside in the Seaside section of the Grand Pavilion. Near enough -- less than 5 minutes walk -- to the main area of the pavilion to enjoy the pools (which only Seaside Grand Pavilion renters are now allowed to use in the daytime), evening music and entertainment and the grand pavilion cafe and bar -- but far enough away-- to still retain the quiet and solitude for true relaxation. We are also within 5 minutes walk to the center of the resort including The Lettered Olive, Hudson's Market, the tennis center and the Harbor golf shop. You don't need to get in the car to enjoy most of Wild Dunes finest

Guestbook comments from the owner

We love playing tennis everyday, hitting golf balls at the range, and playing a few rounds of golf!

We absolutely loved the screened-in-porch and dining alfresco, reading and napping clearly a favorite spot of the week!!!

We ABSOLUTELY LOVE the HOSPITALITY you have provided us this week. Truely the best of everything, from comfy beds, plush towels, great beach chairs any and everything we could have wanted. THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND COMFORT - EXQUISITE!!!! Thank-you so much!!!!!

Can't say enough about this home. Superb location in Wild Dunes resort, close to Charleston's great sight seeing, shopping and restaurants. Beach walkway is right across the street. Quiet cul de sac. Walk to the resort's pools, restaurants, bike rental, shops, golf, ice cream shop. We loved that it was a private, quiet home but we still had access to the resort stuff. That said it NEVER felt crowded at the pool, shops, etc. The home is warm, welcoming with a large open space. 3 nice bedrooms, 3 full baths. It was perfect for our family of 4. Decorated beautifully in southern charm/cottage style. The porches are fabulous. Absolutely lovely flowers, gardens and landscaping. Great covered areas to relax on, read a book and sit out the thunderstorms :) The home is extremely well stocked right down to beach towels, flip flops, hats, books/magazines, a hammock on the rear screen porch. The rear screen porch is HUGE and ceiling fans kept it comfortable even in the SC heat and humidity. Loved loved it and we are past VRBO owners ourselves. Our compliments to the owners and it was so nice meeting one of them! Also LOVED taking care of the plants on the porch :) Thank you!!

Great stay, lovely hosts

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is very comfortable, with all the amenities and more that we might want for our week's stay. We drove into Charleston and other historic sites several times, and it was very refreshing to come back to this comfy, quiet home in a lush, gated community. We had planned the trip for Feb. but encountered a health issue and the trip had to be postponed; the owner accommodated us to change the dates. Thank you also for all your quick replies to our questions and your helpful suggestions. We went to almost all the restaurants on your list -- The Wreck, and Magnolias are standouts. We highly recommend the cottage and the kind and caring owners.

We had a wonderful time at Serenity by the Sea - SUPER location for a non ocean front home!!! House was very well equipped and the owners were very accommodating. We go to Charleston every year (LOVE IT!) and this was one of our favorite homes to stay. Highly recommended.

Perfect Location! Couldn't have asked for a better beach house!!!

Every year the company I work for picks a vacation rental for a 5-6 month period. We’ve rented houses in San Diego, Hilton Head, Lake Tahoe, New Orleans and St. Augustine Florida, just to name a handful. For our 15th annual vacation rental, we rented “Serenity By The Sea” for a 6 month period from April 27th through October 26th, 2013. As the coordinator for the rental, it was my responsibility to work and communicate closely with the owners. From the beginning emails, to phone conversations, to our initial meeting/signing of the rental, the owners could not have been any more friendly and accommodating. As it turned out, I got along quite well with the owners over the course of this past year and it’s my pleasure to say they’re some of the nicest people I’ve met and gotten to know. The owners truly love their property. They went above and beyond to make sure each of my co-workers’ stay was relaxing and enjoyable. Pack your clothes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, hit the grocery store and you’re all set. The house has all the amenities as noted. Warm, welcoming, relaxing and a football fields length away from the beach. Access path to the beach is literally right across from the house. Relax on the beach, take a stroll/run in the morning or watch high tide roll in. Take a walk to the grand pavilion to take a dip in the pools or perhaps to grab a drink or some food at the bar. You can make your vacation as relaxing as you want or as entertaining. There are so many options. Tennis, golf, fish off the beach… rent bikes. You don’t even need to get in your car to go out to dinner. You can enjoy a nice dinner within the grand pavilion. Mt. Pleasant is a short drive just across the IOP connector and Charleston is an easy 25–30 min. drive away. The restaurants in Charleston are truly amazing. There is plenty to choose from so do your research beforehand. I recommend taking a bike taxi. It’s a fun way to check out some of Charleston! My sentiments are shared by my entire company! Many of my co-workers have stated that Serenity By The Sea was their favorite summerhouse we’ve rented in our 15 years of rentals. Whether you’re a large family with kids, a couple or a bunch of friends getting together, the location is perfect for any group! I even had a few co-workers tell me that the vacation they had at the beach house was the best vacation they’ve ever had! Many have expressed interest in going back. I plan on heading back myself!

Perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family met at Serenity for a week long stay. The owners really DO mean that everything is provided as there was plenty of everything that we needed...beach towels, a stocked spice rack, enough paper products to last the week, etc. Just bring your clothes, toiletries and groceries. Serenity is cozy, very comfortable, has an amazing screened porch, perfect "beachy" decor, and is very spacious. The layout of the home was perfect for us, as each of the 3 bedrooms is private. Our oldest daughter has a 2 year old and 3 month old and we never even heard the baby crying at night from their room. The beach walk is just across the street from the driveway and a short stroll to the beach, the children's playground, bike rentals, alligator and turtle pond, tennis and swim center is a short stroll in the opposite direction so we were perfectly situated. The owners' go out of their way to make everything perfect, from the home being very clean to providing an assortment of magazines and books. We loved our week and will return...which is the best review a home can have:-) Deb in Hot Springs, NC
