About the Property
House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10-13)
Berea College maintains hiking trails on Indian Fort Mountain, including West Pinnacle and East Pinnacle. The farm includes a lake which was developed for flood control purposes and fishing is allowed for guests. Deer, geese and wild turkey are seen, as well as other birds and wildlife. The farm is easily accessible from Highway US 421, just across from Pilot Knob near Big Hill, KY and close to Berea and Richmond. Berea is the folk arts capital of Kentucky and many craft shops are nearby, as well as several craft fairs each year.
The Hill House second floor unit has two bedrooms with 1 bath, kitchen, spacious living and dining areas and can sleep up to 7 people. An upstairs dormitory with an additional bath adds beds for up to 6 more. A ground floor unit (additional charges apply - not listed here) adds an additional bedroom, two baths, kitchen and gathering room. Up to 7 can sleep in the ground floor area. The second floor has a covered deck and ground floor has a covered porch.
A/C and heat are included, as well as a landline phone and free wifi. Most cell phones can get signal but some can't. The owners live right on the farm and are accessible for emergencies and other needs.
Hill House is next to a large, beautifully remodeled tobacco barn and a lovely indoor assembly hall, both of which are available separately for gatherings and activities. An outdoor campfire and picnic site is also available for all to use.
Owners, Alfredo & Jennifer Escobar and their daughters, Lydia and Isabel, love to interact with guests. Alfredo is a visual artist and Jennifer is a musician and dancer. Alfredo's murals and other paintings can be seen in Berea and other cities throughout the eastern USA. Jennifer has recorded 10 albums, several of which can be found on iTunes, and she's involved with two student folk dance groups: The Berea Festival Dancers (of which Lydia and Isabel are members) and The Berea College Country Dancers. They're homeschoolers, and are often called upon to work as arts education consultants through state arts councils and the Kentucky Department of Education. On any given day you may find them doing schoolwork at home, working on the farm or buildings, or out and about in the world doing their arts thing and trying to make life fuller for everyone they meet.
Many Kentucky attractions are nearby or within a modest drive, including hiking trails to East and West Pinnacle on Indian Fort Mountain, Berea College, Old Town Berea, Kentucky Folk Arts Center at Berea, Berea College Square, Tater Knob Pottery and Bybee Pottery, Renfro Valley and Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, Kentucky Horse Park, Shakertown, Constitution Square in Danville, My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown, Boonesboro State Park, Daniel Boone Forest, Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge, Lake Cumberland, Cumberland Falls, Levi Jackson State Park at London, and many other sites. For a list of area activities contact Berea Tourism or Kentucky Tourism.
A website for Happiness Hills Farm provides more information about the site, surroundings and retreats, reunions and other gatherings.

About the owner: Founders Bill and Rose Ramsay are pictured here enjoying the Bridge for Peace over Red Lick Creek at the retreat center. The tree lined creek has open fields on both sides up to the flood control dam and lake from which the creek flows. Bill and Rose are still living nearby, but have transferred ownership to their daughter, Jennifer Rose Escobar. She and her husband, Alfredo, their daughters Lydia and Isabel, and the family dogs, Shadow and Boomer, now live onsite and operate the Farm full time.
Why the Owner Chose Berea, KY, USA:
The retreat center is on an 80 acre farm just down the road from founders Bill and Rose Ramsay's house. Their 6 children and 22 grandchildren have roots in Berea so they purchased it as a way to continue a family legacy of close relationships and hospitality in the context of God's creation.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of today's life, but not so remote that convenience and communication are lost. We enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and streams and room for play, hikes, meditation and good fellowship.
