2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6 comfortably, Huge Pool and Bohio
Beautiful home on large, private, tropical lot with all the modern amenities including whole house A/C (not common in Panama), Wireless Internet and Satellite T.V. Beautiful pool with in-pool bar stools and a large bohio surrounded by hammocks with a wet bar and refrigerator. Full bathroom at the pool, outdoor grill & 3 outdoor showers. Beach access is a short 10 minute walk down a slightly steep tropical trail used by locals to gather oysters at low tide. It's not treacherous by any means but the uphill return is likely to make you long for the pool. Close to all the area has to offer including great restaurants, mountain adventures in El Valle and you can walk to the famous surf beaches of Rio Mar and Pal Mar from the property. A brand new 24 hour modern clinic recently opened in Coronado just a 10 minute drive away. There are several golf courses to choose from close by. Spend your days relaxing in the pool or lounging on the hammocks in the bohio. An often deserted beach is at your finger tips for dips in the warm Blue Ocean or long walks. Home is a 2BR/2BA hat sleeps 6 comfortably.

We are a family of four who love Panama!
Chris purchased this House in 2008
Why Chris chose Río Mar
We looked all over the world for a place we could call our second home and decided on Panama! This location is perfect for all we love to do; relax, swim, surf, hike, eat and enjoy life.

We had an amazing 8 days at this ideal home away from home! From morning coffee on the balcony listening to the birds sing, long walks on the beautiful, quiet beach near by, reading and cooling off in the pristine resort-sized pool, dancing the night away in the bohio, it was all so enjoyable. Chris's house is spacious, well-equipped, cheery, comfortable, and the bed in the master bedroom has a good quality mattress - great sleeps! The onsite caretakers are very friendly and helpful, as was the property manager, who quickly answered texts and provided lots of helpful information and suggestions to better enjoy our time the area. An excellent grocery store is just 10 minutes away, and there are some really good restaurants within a 15 minute drive. Carlitos, a fun pizza joint, with great food and a delightful staff is just 5 minutes away! El Valle is a half hour or so away and well worth the drive. The mountain views are spectacular and the village so delightful! There is a big market here with delicious fresh fruits and vegetables. We also took a bus tour into Panama City from a nearby resort. Very clear and helpful information was provided by the owners, along with a welcome basket filled with treats. This is a property where guests are valued and appreciated. We could not have asked for a better vacation! We are planning to return!
Overall, the property is gorgeous, as described by other reviewers. Jenni was warm and welcoming.
The location is convenient— it’s close to the surf camp, El Palmar and Rio Mar beach, which are both great beaches, especially for kids during low tide.
The casa is modern on the outside and rustic inside. Appliances and kitchen utensils are old but functional. We felt the place could have been cleaned more thoroughly prior to our arrival. There were grease stains on the stove and sinks and showers could also use a deep cleaning. Cutlery, pots, pans etc. required an extra rinse before use. The downstairs beds were a little uncomfortable (we didn’t love the mattresses), but we slept ok because it was quiet and peaceful. My parents slept upstairs and said the mistress was better. The sunset view from the upstairs room is speculalar. We ran out of water a few times which was a little annoying. The property manager explained that the property has it’s own well and it gets low sometimes. All good! Internet wifi is slow so if you’re trying to work from the casa, it may be a bit of a struggle. When booking, the checkout time was listed at 11:00am, however, we got an email the morning of our departure that checkout was 10:00am. The property maneger respected the 11 o’clock checkout and didn’t rush us out.
The overall grounds are beautiful and well kept. The bohío and a pool are highlights of this rental. The yard is big enough to throw around a frisbee and for kids to runaround. The host—Jenni is friendly and warm and is knowlwdgsble about things to do in the area.
It sounds like you had a great time! We will certainly take a look at the utensils and make sure the cleaning crew is doing all they can. The sinks and showers are clean but the water leaves stains that are hard to remove :( . Some renters love the beds and I've never had a complaint, but I guess that is a subjective thing.
We have upgraded the wifi this month (which is no small task in Panama) and the speeds are much better.
I hope you will return to Panama for more fun in the sun!
We stayed at this beautiful property for a romantic 5 day vacation and had to be dragged away. The house is very cute and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The views are spectacular from anywhere on the property. We spent long hours in the hammocks listening to the palm trees in the wind and watching tropical birds. The pool is awesome!! The beach is incredibly beautiful and we only saw 1 other person on the beach the whole time.
I want to go back, NOW!!
Beautiful house with a large pool.
We loved the house with the spacious main area with the dining room and good a kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms, especially the master which has a deck which turned out to be great for stargazing (too hot in the day). All the comforts are there including WIFI which worked much of the time and a great washing machine room with backdoor access to a clothesline. The pool had shade areas (bohío), which provide welcome protection from the sun, and the large pool was great for cooling off.
There is a major multi level building construction site next door complete with concrete trucks and normal banging and dumping of construction materials in the dump directly behind the property, We were out touring a lot, so this mattered in the morning only when we were having coffee by the pool and trying to relax and listen to one of the myriad of bird calls or the breeze wafting off of the Pacific.
The distance to the beach was reasonably close, but required a 4X4 for part of the road there. We found it to be within walking distance, but it can be a bit of a hot walk, not recommended for the elderly.
There is another house on the property and you share the pool with those tenants. You may not need to bring radio as your co tenants may play the boom box in perpetuity. If a quiet getaway to a foreign country immersing yourself in local sound and culture is your thing, you might get foiled by all the soft rock pop hits from the 60's to the 90's.
Part way through our two week stay, the living room air conditioner died. It was never replaced or repaired for the remainder of the visit. We were told that the owner wanted to wait for parts instead of bringing in a new unit, but this left us with a hot living room which the 78 year old in our party (who used the room the most) especially did not enjoy. We were able to leave our bedroom doors open so that air conditioning from the bedrooms would leak in making dining in bearable.
All in all it was a nice trip except for the aforementioned issues. The caretakers for the property were most helpful with directions and suggestions for our visit. The main road system in Panama is great, We did lots of touring and went for long walks to take in the rugged beauty of the great long vacant Panamanian beaches.
Thanks for staying with us! I regret that you had a couple issues but I'm glad you had a good time overall.
The construction project that was close to the house has moved on down the road and the noise is greatly reduced. Whew..
It really stinks that the AC broke while you were there! We did all we could to get it repaired quickly. Even if we would have just replaced it, that would have taken almost as much time as the repair. The rapid service we are accustomed to in the US/Canada does not exist in Panama. Sorry Grandma was hot :(
I hope you will come back to Panama!!
I can't say enough nice things about this place! Thank you to Tim and Jenni the caretakers for all you did! The home has everything you need, and the pool is wonderful. I miss my hammock already. Thank you Chris!
Great stay in sunny San Carlos
We just returned from 2 weeks in our cozy home. As the other reviews have stated, the highlight is definitely the outside space - the pool, bohio w/hammocks, yard, covered patio and 2nd floor balcony are great and we definitely spent most of our time outside. The lot is well landscaped and meticulously maintained. There are mango, lime, pineapple and banana trees. We were only able to enjoy the limes as they other fruit was not quite ready. There were tons of roadside fruit stands though.
The house was nice if a showing a little wear and tear. The house easily accommodates 4 people comfortably. We found the living room area a little small and awkward when we did try to watch the Oscars on tv. There certainly were plenty of English speaking stations. We really enjoyed the 6-burner gas stove. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking (you need a new can opener - the ones in the drawer are terrible!) There are lot of fans throughout to keep you cool and a/c if the bedrooms and living room if required. The only drawbacks were the comfort level of the bed (very firm mattresses) and the noise from the nearby highway. There was also noise during the 4 days of Carnaval - nothing too crazy but you could hear firecrackers, fireworks, party music and drumming at times. The fan of the a/c helped drown out any noise.
Jenni and Tim, the caretakers were wonderful - very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They directed us to some great price fixe restaurants and side trips. When we had trouble reaching our car rental company for our return trip to Panama City, they helped us secure a driver.
The nearby beach was very nice, especially for beachcombing and jumping in the waves at low tide. The black sand is very beautiful but definitely hot to walk on. There is very little shade and as it was so hot and sunny while we were there, we found it hard to spend long periods of time at the beach. It was a 10 minute walk down a road that is under construction. Most days we would only see a few people on the beach but at the height of Carnaval, there must have been 20+ locals enjoying the surf.
San Carlos is very central to a lot of beaches, activities, restaurants, Coronado and the ex-pat community. It was a little less hectic than Coronado but only 10 minutes away so we enjoyed the slower pace. If you want to avoid the 1 1/2 hour drive plus the crazy traffic, we found out that Sunwing and Air Transat fly to nearby Rio Hato, only 20 min away!
The property is located approximately 100km from Panama City in the town of San Carlos which is nicely positioned between the resort areas of Coronado and Farallon allowing visitors to conveniently take advantage of all the area has to offer. The road to El Valle is just 2km from the house. Many of the areas best restaurants are close to the property and the beach is just a 5 minute walk from the house. Much time was spent researching the area to be sure the property was in the perfect location to enjoy all of the attractions on the pacific beaches of Panama.
