Not quite as expected.

  • 2 of 5

Not that I usually write comments for travel sites, I thought that I must, following our 4 day stay at the Chestnut Cottage in Chester, Nova Scotia.

While I had written a long review, I have decided to reduce it to basically point form for ease of reading.

NEGATIVES.

- Physical layout and narrow steep staircases make it very difficult to take large suitcases to bedrooms. Totally unsuitable for anyone with physical handicaps.

- No hot water for the 1st 24 hours. Electrician repaired @ 16.00h on day 2. No showers in morning.

- No water at all for last 24 hours – obvious bathroom issues. No showers again. Necessitating purchase of bottled at our expense for washing and cooking.

- Lack of basic cutlery and china.

- Linens old, discoloured and thin.

- Property manager could not authorize required repairs without contacting the owner, delaying resolution of issues.

POSITIVES.

- Older cottage with lots of charm, interesting furniture and artifacts.

- We had a prompt response from friendly and courteous property manager who were most accommodating by taking the time in the evening to address our problems.

Finally – Following all of the issues, emailed the owner and after 5 days having not heard from them, contacted them again stating how disappointed and frustrated that they did not have the courtesy to respond. Still waiting for any form of comment, reply, partial refund - anything. Not what I expect from a business person at all. Thankfully there were only 3 of us staying at the cottage otherwise we could have had more issues with the bathroom facilities etc.
