It really was the best ! This is the place to stay
We stayed at Casa Joanna in early December of 2017, choosing the great city of San Miguel De Allende after our usual villa was destroyed by hurricanes and we wanted to revisit after a twenty year absence. We could not have been more satisfied with our choice of accommodations. It really was the best!
Arranging for the stay with the property owner was effortless, and she was professional and very efficient. Joanna was more than accommodating to our questions, and the casa itself was proof of the care and considerations provided by the team, including the manager and staff on site. We have stayed at VRBO houses before, and although an easy process, in general, I would say Joanna’s system was one of the best. The casa itself is situated within blocks of San Miguel’s historic district, but despite its nearness to the important sector of the city, it was a wonderful refuge from the outside world. Once you stepped inside the street gate, you entered a comforting court yard and house, very well appointed with every tool available to feel at home. On-site manager Aida was there to meet us. She provided complimentary provisions for our first breakfast, and had flowers arranged throughout the house. Luzma, the housekeeper, was there on schedule and kept the house orderly and clean throughout our stay. We felt as if we were family immediately and throughout our stay.
If you are considering San Miguel as a travel destination, Casa Joanna's two bedrooms and two baths was more than sufficient. The kitchen was well equipped, and was the basis for many sumptuous meals at home. Provisions of all kinds are available in the town, including meat, fish, and vegetable markets. Stores with vast selections of cheeses and several bread and sweet shops kept the pantry well stocked. We walked everywhere, taking dinner at many of the fine restaurants that offered everything to suit one’s tastes. The city is beautiful, its residents are friendly and very kind, and one is absolutely safe walking at any time of the day and night within the historic district. And what an historic district! Make sure you take advantage of the many walking tours.
Needless to say, we would recommend San Miguel as a travel destination, and Casa Joanna as the place to stay.

Beautiful Jewel behind the doors of San Miguel
Casa Joanna is a beautiful jewel behind the doors of San Miguel. It was much more than we ever expected. Beautiful inside and out. It was very charming with a patio and pool that made us feel like we were in our own private resort. The roof top deck was lovely and a place where we could see the highlights of San Miguel.
The house is a short walk from the El Jarden (the centre of the city for all San Miguel activities. We went their daily to enjoy the people, the restaurants, and the culture of San Miguel.
The house is close to shopping, activities, guided tours and a short walk to a great park.
It really is a great find and a very special place to stay.
We would highly recommend Casa Joanna to everyone. It was a great experience and a Great Holiday!!!
"Truly a Gem"
We recently stayed at Casa Joanna and it is truly a jewel with a pool! With beautiful accommodations, gorgeous pool and surrounding gardens, as well as a fabulous roof top terrace, Casa Joanna is a real find! We loved how close the Casa was from the park, just a few doors down the street and it was also so easy to stroll down the street to shops and restaurants. When we walked into the property it took our breath away, turquoise pool, lush gardens and beautiful stone wall set the ambiance and we hadn't even stepped foot into the Casa. The bedrooms were lovely, really comfy beds and bedding, beautiful open air concept and well equipped kitchen all made for a fantastic stay! Candlelight dinner by the pool with fresh veggies and fish from the market and a great bottle of wine from the fab wine store near the Jardin made our stay even better. We took the architectural tour which was really worth doing, strolled through galleries and churches and enjoyed some delicious dinners at some of the many restaurants. Casa Joanna is a "Must Stay" and we hope you enjoy yourself as much as we did!
Location Location matched with comfort and serenity
I stayed at this perfect little retreat this february/15 and found it to be everything I had hoped for and more. The location is perfect...between Parque Juarez and Centro. One can walk almost everywhere to the best restaurants, pocket theaters, entertainment and the
Jardin which is THE meeting place for anyone who wishes to mingle with locals and other
tourists. The house is a little oasis with all the amenties anyone would wish for including
a wonderful maid.
This was our first trip to San Miguel and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. Communicating with Joann to set things up in advance was a breeze. She is such a fantastic person and made everything easy. All was as exactly as she described - in fact, much better.
The casa was perfect and the location, great. The casa is an easy, interesting walk to the jardin and an even easier walk to Parque Juarez - a gorgeous, park with abundant paths and cooling greenery.
After staying in her casa on our first trip for 6 weeks, we returned again for another 5 weeks later on in the year. No question - we would stay at Joann’s. That says a lot given the many excellent places to stay in SMA.
On our first trip, it was pretty hot during the day. Morning walks to the jardin, exploring the town, and then at the peak of heat, heading back to Casa Joanna … opening her door, coming off the street - so close to “all the stuff” - was like ducking into a secret and cool oasis. - a different little world. I took TOTAL advantage of the pool - floating away my siestas in an inner tube, or doing strange aerobics hanging onto the side, while my hubby read to me. Late afternoon showers for both of us, then off again for a dinner at one of the so many excellent restaurants in town. I slept like a baby.
Midway through our second trip, we started imagining a life in San Miguel. Cliche? Yes!
Joann’s house was just magic for us. It was the perfect base from which to explore this incredible town. We took cooking classes, Spanish, made several trips to La Gruta and so much more.
And here is my final comment - it was in part because of Casa Joanna, she-herself-Joann, the AMAZING Luzma (hola Luz!) that we won’t be booking again. Why? We ended up buying a home in SMA!
On our third trip to SMA, we were able to entertain Joann and her sister in our own casa :) Still, I look forward to meeting Joann on the roof of her secret hideaway that started it all for margaritas one day soon.
We can never thank you enough, Joann!
Ideal location, an easy walk to the sights, restaurants, cafes, shopping and market, and a $3 taxi ride to supermarkets and main bus station.
The casa is wonderful retreat after a busy day and is also perfectly suited to a lazy day at 'home'.
Enjoyed San Miguel during the bicentenary celebrations, lots of fun, the roof-top patio was a great place to watch the firework displays (lovely sunsets too).
Would love to return for a longer stay.
