I grew up in La Jolla, California. I am a painter. I was invited to live in this apartment in 1989. The garden and apartment became the subject matter for most of my paintings. In 2004 I was able to purchase the apartment and then renovate it. It is still a work in progress. I have tried living in other areas of Paris but nothing compares to Saint Germain des Pres. The apartment could not be in a better location for enjoying Paris. I look forward to walking out my door every morning. My daughter and I are very happy to share our good fortune in being able to live in one of the most beautiful situations in Paris. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2004
I have long family ties with this property so it was my dream to one day buy it. The building is magnificent, the location ideal, the ambiance sublime. Very quiet as it is at the back of a luxuriously green garden, totally protected from city noise.
This apartment is located in the heart of the city yet once you enter the street doors the quiet resounds. All the calm of a country retreat with the added plus of walking to anything cultural or commercial, from museums, churches, to restaurants, boutiques, and markets. All of the best of Paris is a short walk away. Multiplicity of public transport options from taxis, buses, velib bicycles to metro lines, all steps away.
A quiet hideaway in the heart of the VIth. Close to everything, including a couple of great restaurants across the street and a bakery for morning croissants.
Thank you, Kathleen for sharing your wonderful apartment. It was perfect for our family. My granddaughter is planning on copying many of your design ideas for her new apartment in the fall. We appreciated the detailed instructions and the welcome supplies in the refrigerator. We had a memorable stay in Paris.
I spent 8 days after Christmas in Kathleen's beautiful apartment with my two grown sons and daughter-in-law. The Christmas tree and bottle of wine that welcomed us, along with the the helpful notebooks full of local knowledge, made us feel completely at home. The apartment was clean and extremely quiet with space for everyone to spread out. We prepared a couple of dinners in the well equipped kitchen, and enjoyed the many good nearby restaurants, not to mention arguably the best bakery in Paris directly across the street! Simply a fabulous neighborhood. The one small issue we had with the dishwasher was immediately addressed. Kathleen was responsive and gracious from start to finish. We all hope to return. Highly recommended!
Our family of four (kids ages 4 & 7) spent a week over the xmas holidays at Kathleen's cozy, artistic Paris hideaway. We found the apartment perfect for a family with 2 small kids, especially the large (for Paris), fully equipped kitchen. The apartment is on the ground floor, but set at the back of an enchanting, gated courtyard, so you have the benefit of not having to climb up flights of stairs with your baggage and kids, but can still enjoy total quiet, due to the courtyard's protection from the street. 3 updated full baths are also a nice treat and there was plenty of hot water. Kathleen was very accommodating with our check in and check out needs, and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Overall, a very pleasant, reasonably priced experience and the location truly can't be beat.
We had a lovely stay. I was there with my two teenagers and the apartment was a perfect size for us; the kids used the daybeds in the living room and I used the basement bedroom, the three bathrooms really came in handy. Kathleen left very detailed information and instructions which were helpful. There are many great shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. If you want to wander and soak in the atmosphere of the city on your way to sightseeing, the location is perfect - it is a reasonably short and very scenic walk to the Seine, the Orsay and Louvre, and Notre Dame. Somewhat longer walks to the Eiffel Tower, Concorde, etc but we did it. Highly recommend this place if you want a taste of the "real" Paris.
Amazing apartment and location for family of 6! The darling courtyard, crucial 3 bathrooms and divine farm table made this cozy spot a perfect renewal in between walking, biking and museuming around Paris. We were a block away from metro stops, jogging spots and any cafe. Can't wait to go back! Thank you Kathleen--we loved your cookbooks too!
