Lakeside Lodge is located on Gilmore Lake and offers the perfect family getaway during any season of the year. This beautiful handcrafted log home is nearly 3000 sq.ft. You will enjoy complete privacy nestled among 100+ year old pines on 16 secluded acres of land and 700 feet of sandy shoreline. The expansive wrap around deck is the perfect setting to experience the Northwoods and breathtaking views.
Gilmore Lake is 2 miles NW of Minong, 25 minutes West of Hayward, 20 minutes North of Spooner and 50 minutes South of Duluth. The lake is about 450 acres and is the premier recreational lake in the area. It perfect for swimming, boating, water skiing and is chock full of fish. That said, the lake is never too busy.
The lodge is virtually new and has all of the amenities you would want in a luxury home including: Gourmet Kitchen/Great Room with granite countertops, microwave, dishwasher and all cookware and utensils provided; Two wood burning fireplaces, leather furniture, DVD player, Stereo w/CD player, Ipod dock, washer, dryer, and gas grill; The basement and bathrooms have heated floors and there is a Bain Ultra air tub as well; 3 bedrooms up - 1 Queen Master, 1 Queen, and bunk room with 3 sets of twin bunks; Large guest bedroom downstairs has full double bed and one set of twin bunks; Dock, two canoes, 12 ft. aluminum fishing boat and large beach area.
The lake is great for swimming and all water sports. Panfish are plentiful from the dock and Walleye, Northern, Crappie and Bass have been taken right from the dock as well. Our 24' pontoon and Polaris watercraft are available for additional rental charge. The wood burning sauna house is a few steps from the main cabin and is enjoyable year round. Black Bear Golf course is a couple miles away and there are many courses within a 30 minute drive. Other area activities include: hiking, biking, hunting, horseback riding, cross country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, downhill skiing, shops, restaurants, museums, and several area festivals and events.

Fantastic stay and an absolutely great vacation.
We had a group of mixed ages and everyone enjoyed themselves. The weather was phenomenal and the fishing was unreal. The kids loved catching fish off the dock or wading out into the lake and fishing from there so they could watch the fish chase their bait. Revis was beyond accommodating and helpful with any questions I had. I would definitely rent this place again.
Authentic log home getaway
Just returned from a wonderful week with extended family at Lakeside Lodge. Our trip was fantastic! Revis was able to accommodate our large group and friendly dogs.
Pros- private, amazing beach, spacious and comfortable home, beautiful lake, large pontoon boat and jet ski, plenty of firewood for fires on the beach.
Cons- (only listing as a heads up for those it may be a problem for) steep, natural path down to beach- difficult for those who are unfit, elderly, or handicap- not a problem for us, we looked at it as good exercise. No air conditioning (which we knew from the listing). When we arrived it was hot and humid in the house with all windows open, no breeze- not a problem during the day, but makes for sticky sleeping at night. (Fortunately, the temps were in the 70s the rest of the week and the house cooled down).
My one recommendation to Revis would be to invest in a larger refrigerator that is not a side by side. With our large group we brought pre-made meals for the week that we needed to keep frozen and the limited freezer space and narrowness of a side by side made that quite challenging.
Thank you Revis for sharing your home with us! It provided an awesome setting for our annual family retreat to the north woods. We greatly appreciate you accommodating our group!
Great escape in the woods and great for a group!
Our stay at Lakeside lodge was fantastic. We had a large group (10 people) up for Birkie weekend and the large, comfortable cabin was able to accommodate all of us easily. All of the beds listed in the review are real beds (not pull outs) and there are two comfortable sofas downstairs. The open kitchen and big dinning room table allowed us all to eat together for meals. Everything about the place was better than expected. Revis was easy to coordinate with and a very gracious host. We hope to come back next year, if not sooner!
Great Property and great communication
Revis was a great communicator and the property was better than expected. You will see in previous reviews that the hill is steep, it is but I chalked it up to exercise for the day. Found a supplier of wood in town and had a fire at the beach every night under the stars. Interesting pieces in the cabin too, someone has a good eye. Thanks again Revis.
Decent Property, Awful Service and Management
I rented this property for a group of friends that has been getting together for a long cabin weekend for a number of years - we are 6 adults and 5 kids under 5. This is the worst place we have stayed, and we will not be coming back.
All the comments regarding the steepness down to the lake are right, but that alone is not why we won't be coming back. The cabin advertises a wood fireplace, wood sauna, and fire pit ... we showed up and there wasn't enough cut wood for one fire. There was a grill ... but no propane (there were 3 empty propane tanks). We paid an extra fee for the pontoon boat ... it's dirty, old, moldy ... and wen we tried to start it, the battery on the back started smoking. So that didn't work. And a number of the dishes put away in the kitchen were dirty, requiring us to run the dishwasher upon arriving. Despite 4 calls to the property manager during my 3 day trip, I heard nothing back (sent a couple e-mails as well during that time when we weren't hearing back). I dropped another e-mail upon checking out to note my displeasure, request my deposit back, and request a refund of the pontoon rental. The deposit was due 14 days after check-out ... today is 15 days, and I STILL have not received it or the pontoon refund, and still have not heard from the property manager. I submitted a complaint to VRBO tonight.
The cabin is OK - a nice cabin in the woods, though if you have young kids, this is not he cabin for you. The stairs inside are very steep, not good for little legs excited to be at a cabin excitedly running around. We had one toddler take a spill, and one of the grown adults also slipped down the downstairs stairs.
There are lots of other cabins on VRBO that are equally as nice or nicer, however, without the steep walk down to the lake or the lack of property management. Skip this one, if you're expecting a relaxing time with a turnkey cabin, you will be sorely disappointed. We certainly were.
Very nice cabin but a word to the wise, the steep hill down to the lake is a killer, and no steps! Also the refrigerator is quite small and the ice maker didn't work so bring coolers and ice to keep things cold. There is no air conditioning or fans, so come prepared for that. Lovely deck which we use to dine every night. Rocky shore till you get past the dock so little kids might not want to walk in the lake but the beach was nice. Owner very accomodating and helpful.
