About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

A lovely historic Harwich Port home - newly restored, with a comfortable wide-open floor plan that's perfect for entertaining. The yard is private, surrounded by birches, arbor vitae and hydrangeas. Ideal for families or grandparents hosting family visits.

Downstairs are 2 bedrooms, both with double beds, and a bathroom with a tub/jacuzzi the size of a small pool. Upstairs is a larger bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a bath with shower and a loft with a trundle bed that sleeps 2, sitting/TV/game area, and a balcony overlooking the Golf Course.

The Harwich Port Golf Course Clubhouse is 50 feet across the street. Main St. is a block away, cross Main St. and the beach is one more block. Walk to the weekly Main Street open music festivals and art shows.

Enjoy the charming seafood restaurants and the ambiance of three harbors in one Port. Watch the colorful sailboat races from the beach.

Harwich Port is a well-kept secret with discreet charm and true New England character. The elegant historic churches still conduct services and host wonderful pancake breakfasts and lobster luncheons.

Some have weekly dances. And parents and children alike will be enchanted by the world-class performances at the Harwich Junior Theatre, a cherished local institution.

A perfect vacation retreat.

Why Mary Kate McCarty chose Cape Cod

My family had a summer home in Harwich Port when I was young, and it has been a love affair ever since. Ask anyone who has spent time in Harwich Port, winter or summer, and they'll tell you it is a hidden jewel among the more well-known towns of the Cape. Once you've experienced the discreet charm of this elegant and intimate place, you'll be back again and again.

What makes this house unique

Our home is on the historic register. It was in bad shape when we bought it. We weren't allowed to tear it down, so we repaired the old and added the new. The result is stunning, and more than once we've been asked to share the house's custom architectural design. The magnificent fireplace is designed according to the classic Count Rumsford specifications. The comfortable wide-open floor plan combined with beautiful natural light create a stunning and welcoming ambiance.

When you walk through the large arbor vitae and into the yard, you feel like you're in a cocoon. The yard is private, surrounded entirely by birch trees, with a row of hydrangeas along side. The only sounds are the numerous species of birds chirping and singing, the golfers swearing at themselves or laughing at each other, and the lovely chimes of the Congregational Church, announcing each quarter hour. At night you can hear the soft baritone of the Kilpond Marker Buoy a mile off the coast. The salt air is like a tonic, and to sleep with the windows open and drink it in is intoxicating.

It's nice to know the kids can hop on their bikes and safely ride to the ice-cream parlor in four minutes, but they often prefer to walk. A block away is Port-o-Call, an enchanting gift shop that hasn't changed in 60 years.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The house was great. Great location and very close to beaches. We went to Bank St., Earle St., Sea St., and Red River. All were clean and beautiful. Our favorite was Earle St. The town was a short walk with some great bakeries. We took a ferry to Martha's Vineyard and also a drive to Newport , RI. Very close to Chatham beaches, shops and food. The only two things I would change about the house would be to add a TV in the upstairs bedroom and air conditioning to the upstairs. While it was very comfortable downstairs, the first 4 days we were there it was extremely hot and no matter how many fans and open windows we had upstairs it was too warm to sleep. Aside from that I would recommend staying here and we will definitely be back. Also the owner Mary Kate was a pleasure to work with.

Hidden gem!

  • 4 of 5

We rented this pet friendly home, notice I did not say house, for the week leading up to our son's wedding day. It suited our needs perfectly. Although it is situated across the street from a golf course, the house is surrounded by trees and foliage which keep things quiet and secluded. The walls are adorned with beautiful and interesting artwork. We had plenty of room and were able to walk to the beach in minutes. Loved the outdoor shower! The owner was a pleasure to work with and was very accommodating with our dates and requests. This truly is a home away from home and I would go back in a heartbeat!

Review #8722324 The perfect Cape house!

We stay at this wonderful house every year, and it's the highlight of our summer. The house is perfect for larger groups -- and also a treat for just the two of us when we want to escape. There's nothing better than coming home from the beach, opening a bottle of wine, and relaxing on the back deck. Within walking distance to town, the house is amazingly quiet. We love it there!

2nd Year in this house

  • 5 of 5

This house is everything they claim & more! We rented it 2 years in a row. Plenty of space for a large family to spread out. The back yard is so quiet and secluded you feel like you are a million miles away from any neighbors! Well maintained and comfortable, an easy walk to stores and the beach. My dog Molly loved sitting in the dining room looking out the sliders at the bunnies who came out for dinner every evening! We will be back again to this house. The owner is the best part....she makes you feel so welcome. Best rental ever!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from this excellent vacation home and we already miss it! The location is perfect...walking distance to shops, restaurants, beach, ice cream, etc. We walked every day! My kids loved having the golf course right across the street. The home itself is so spacious with many amenities too. The decks, the grill, the tree swing and swing set kept us all so busy. Enjoy!

Harwich Port offers many unique attractions: The Brooks Museum features a fascinating history of cranberry harvesting; The Harwich Junior Theatre is one of the oldest and most-respected theatre groups on and off the Cape, and their productions are world-class and fun - the characters come out after the show, delighting kids and adults. The 3 harbors are breathtakingly beautiful. You can enjoy chowder and lobster rolls while overlooking Saquatucket Harbor at Brax Landing. There is a little triangular park near the post office, which hosts charming outdoor arts exhibitions. The go-carts, bumper boats, trampolines, batting cages and public tennis courts are always popular, as are the unique ice-cream shops, boutiques and restaurants. The beaches are clean and lovely to watch the sailing races out of Stone Horse Yacht Club. Finally, a trip to the Port-o-Call Gift Shop is like a trip back in time - not to be missed.
