Chimney Rock state Park,Water Falls are only 5 minute Drive from the house .Lake Lure Beach and Water Park is only 1.2 miles away.

Lake Lure is one of the ten most beautiful man made lakes in the world according to National Geography, is nestled in the charming foot-hills of the Blue Ridge mountains. It has 27 miles of shoreline. Several major motion pictures including Dirty Dancing, Last of the Mohicans, A Breed Apart and Firestart was filmed here. In fact the film Dirty Dancing was filmed right in front of our house across the lake.!

The house is located five minutes from the Lake Lure City Center, 3 minutes drive from the main 74/64 highway. A ten minute drive will take one to Hickory Nut Gorge Water-falls and Chimney rock park. It is close to many Western North Carolina attractions, including Biltmore House and Vineyard, Cherokee Indian Reservation and the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. (Which is one of the most visited national parks in the country).

This lovely rustic charming house is a perfect vacation home for quiet mountain lake retreat.

Incredible Views

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, the property has amazing views , very quaint, and close to everything. The only reason it doesn't get five stars, is the sleeping arrangements are not the best. The owner of the property should really invest in at least one queen bed, it makes it very difficult with two double beds. The other reason, is linens and towels are not included, there is an additional fee if you want them to provide. With that being said, the location and views of the property far outweigh any negatives. We would stay there again!! We will definitely miss the view while having coffee!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We will definitely consider getting a Queen size bed or sofa bed. The reason we exclude linen from the rent is to keep the rent low for guests who want to bring linen. Claude

A bit disappointed

  • 2 of 5

First let me state that the inside of this unit was quite quaint and the setting was very nice. A great view from the deck outside and via the windows in the den.

What was quite disappointing was the following:

1. The outside has a tremendous amount of rotten wood everywhere. Really distracts from the overall perspective of the place.

2. We used two cans of spider killer, as webs and a ton of spiders were very prevalent around the front and back doors, as well as all over the deck railings.

3. Toilet seat was completely off the main toilet in the house and we had advised the management company the day we arrived. Nothing was done about it.

4. It shows a sandy beach area.....well, we had to trim vines to walk down the stone steps to get to it. Poor upkeep from a maintenance perspective.

5. We rented a boat one day, and there is not a place to tie up to, as railings have been put up where the tie down cleats are. Why was that done?

6. There were no instructions on where the canoe was. Had to call to find out the key to storage was on mantle. These little things should be laid out accordingly.

I would not recommend this unit until the rotten wood is fixed, and the exterior is cleaned up. Having a pest control procedure in place would make all the difference. Could be an awesome place. Needs some TLC. Noticed that no pictures from the water were shown, thus hiding the exterior appearance. Note to self.

Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and found it to be relaxing. The aesthetics needs some attention on the exterior of the unit. Thanks.

Owner's Response: The person who reviewed this has totally exaggerated the minor maintenance issues that were required for this property. Outside does not have rotten wood. Any decaying wood was replaced all over the house and the whole exterior of the house was painted early last year. Small spider webs may have been present out-doors or even on the deck. These are to be expected in a cottage on the water surrounded by a lot of trees. A cleaning service cleans the property after each rental and they are supposed to take care of any spider webs. However, even if they clean all the spider webs one day the next day , there will be another one. About the toilet seat ; you have totally exaggerated about the toilet seat, it is true that the screws were loose and it was slightly wobbly. It was never off the main toilet. After this guest left, the owners went and and used the toilet without any problem. However, we immediately called the plumber to fix the problem. About the steps to the sandy beach. There may have been small twigs of vine encroached on the steps to the sandy beach. This is greater than one acre property, and the staff that does the out-door up-keep may have over-looked it. The tie down cleates for the boat may have come off from the deck, we will re-install them. Nancy, who takes care of the property, had tried to call you , to indicate that the Canoe was in the Boat House and the key to the Boat House was on the mantle.. How ever she could not reach you. In Summary, there is absolutely no rotten wood, intensive Pest Control would not eliminate spider webs,. Photograph of the exterior of the house from water was posted many months ago. I am sorry that this guest expected a vacation in a 5 star hotel with immaculate ground maintenance , even though he paid only a fraction of the cost of a 5 star hotel. He should note that in Lake Lure a tiny room with one bed and no view will cost him $120 per night. The 2 stars he gave the property was totally unjustified. Owner

Phenomenal views with rustic charm!!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this property. The view is the best on lake. Easy access to water/dock as well as unloading vehicle. We grilled out every night on the deck. Fireflies and shooting stars always add a nice touch to the ambiance in the evenings.

Breathtaking Views, Lake-FRONT, Exceptional Value!!

  • 5 of 5

We strongly recommend the Mark Twain house, & look forward to renting again from this Owner. Why you should rent this house: The photos on vrbo are all accurate; however, they do not capture the beauty of the view, whether from the large deck or from inside through the huge unobstructed picture window. The weekly rental fee is an incredible value for waterfront lake property. The large deck is instantly accessible with one step outside the living room. Because the house is so close down to the lake, the lower deck/ dock is only one flight of stairs from the main level [nearly all the other lakefront houses we saw were much higher up, away from the water, with 2-4 flights of stairs to go down to the water]. The beds in the two main floor bedrooms were comfortable. The main floor had two full bathrooms. The lower deck/ dock had a ladder to get in/out of the water easier [or, you could jump in feet first off the end of the dock]. We enjoyed the comfy recliners in the living room, facing the big window. Ingles [a full size, nice grocery store] was only about 10 minutes away. The tiny towns of Lake Lure & Chimney Rock were less than 5 & 10 minutes away [several mornings I woke early, drove to the town, parked, and jogged along the Lake Lure Beach, by Morse Park, across the Flowering Bridge, & over to front of Chimney Rock State Park]. Chimney Rock State Park is 10 minute drive away. We enjoyed the free outdoor concerts [bluegrass gospel] at The Gathering Place, a small park across from Chimney Rock Park entrance, with the towering Chimney Rock as background to the musicians. Asheville was a scenic 45 minute drive away.

In interests of full disclosure: The house did not have central A/C, but did have a strong window A/C unit, ceiling fans, & a few portable fans. We were there in late June & with hot temp's outside, we were fine inside. The kitchen is not huge, & the countertops weren't granite, but it was fine for cooking multiple meals & stocked just well. No cathedral ceilings. It's a basic cottage on the lake (with awesome views you'll never forget).

If you want the fancy, brand new house with shiny appliances & a big game room, find another house & pay 3 times as much or more. For us, the views, right-on-the-lake water front, & low rental price sold us, & will keep us coming back. Moreover, we found the Owner to be very responsive, polite, & concerned that our stay was a happy one.

Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this lovely house Sept 16- Sept 20. We did not want to leave. The house is just as advertised. The views of the mountain's were to die for. I really enjoyed the convenience of the one step to deck, this made it very easy for my elderly parents to join us on the deck to enjoy our meals.

Also Nancy was awesome to work with and eager to help with suggestions on places to eat and other activities. We will defiantly stay here again.
