Wonderful get-away!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, this was the best experience we have had with renting a home. The owner, Dennis was an extremely gracious host, who went above and beyond, making sure everything was just perfect for our week's stay in July. This is a gorgeous home, with everything you could want or need for a perfect lake vacation. From having 3 full bathrooms, to the warm and cozy look and feel of this log home, to the fabulous lake views and private setting, it is truly a place worth experiencing! We would love to get the chance to come back sometime in the future.

Horrible Owner interaction...Beautiful place

  • 1 of 5

I would like to preface this review by stating my family and I have been utilizing this site for our vacations 3 times a year for the past 8years (we often go back to the same properties)—so we are not novices. However, out of all the places we have stayed, our interaction with this owner, Dennis, was horrendous to say the least. His place is beautiful and nicely maintained as pictured. Upon check-in, he met us and was kind and appropriate, but an irrational transformation occurred upon checkout. I take ownership of my misunderstanding of the checkout time—I thought it was 11am but it was actually 10am. So I took advantage of a last minute grouse hunting invite (10 minutes away) by a friend the morning we were leaving. My wife and 8 year old daughter were packing up and I was on my way back to the cabin when I received an irate phone call from Dennis at 10:10am—screaming at me over the phone, telling me to get my stuff and family out of his place! I arrived by 10:15 am, I was greeted by Dennis pacing and yelling at me. I apologized for my misunderstanding and offered to stay and help prepare the cabin for the next party arriving at 4pm. In front of my daughter, he continued displaying his taunting and bullying behavior by threatening to call the sheriff because I was not packing our belongings into our vehicle fast enough. Additionally, Dennis disclosed to me had hidden cameras on the property and had been watching our family! After we left, my wife told me Dennis had raged into the home before I was there, startling her and my daughter, and telling our daughter “Young Lady, you need to get your things and get out of my house now!” My daughter became upset and confused to the point she began crying. He continued his unrelenting behavior as I held my daughter. My wife also told me while I was outside packing, she had apologized to Dennis for the misunderstanding and was sorry that he was so upset. He accused us of manipulating the contract and violating the law! My wife reminded him that she was apologizing and his sharp response was, “I’ve heard it!” You should know my wife is physician and is not scared by cognitively impaired persons; however she became quite afraid during her interaction with Dennis. We left by 10:35am. Our wonderful stay in northern Michigan was ruined by this man’s, as quoted from my daughter, “totally inappropriate behavior”. We will never stay at a property affiliated with this owner. Thank you for reading my review.

Owner's Response: We provide an exceptionally comfortable and beautiful home for visitors to the Traverse City area, so it is unfortunate to hear that anyone would have an unpleasant experience. It is even more unfortunate that Homeaway will post any review without checking its accuracy and honesty. Therefore, our response is factual and can be verified by any visitor. We can provide some feedback to this party, however, that may help them understand why they are disappointed: Agreement was not followed by the visitor - each visitor signs an agreement clearly stating the maximum number of people staying and agrees to remove their household trash, food and start 1 load of laundry. 1. Visitor added 4 people beyond the maximum number without authorization from the owner. 2. Visitor did not vacate at the agreed time, and did not complete duties as stated in the agreement before leaving. The visitor didn’t vacate the property until one and a half hours past the agreed departure time. 3. There are and were no hidden cameras. Every visitor is asked to fully read and understand the agreement before they sign and return it. In order to accommodate every visitor, and in order to assure the same beautifully maintained home to each party, we require all parties to vacate at the time stated in the agreement. This assures proper preparation time for the next visitor, unless previous arrangements are communicated and agreed to by the owner.

If you are looking for the perfect family retreat, this is the place. From the comfort of the rooms to the authentic "Michigan lodge" decor, the owners have paid extraordinary attention to detail. The owner was friendly and accommodating, the property was spotless, the lake was beautiful and everything we needed for a retreat was at hand. I would highly recommend this to friends and family. Hope to return in the future.

I hope to return and would highly recommend

10 DAYS, ABSOLUTELY NO WORRIES, WILL RETURN.

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly Amazing! We spent 10 days in this absolutely beautiful log cabin. We celebrated our 25th Anniversary tucked away in nature, away from the hustle and bustle. Dennis, the host/owner was just the kindest man, paying attention to every detail to make our stay here as comfortable as possible. We rented kayaks from Sunset Watersports (highly recommended), Spent time on the pontoon boat (amazing) and cozied up in front of the fire many nights. The weather was quite a bit rainier, windier and cooler (50's,60's- 5 of 10 days) than predicted which limited some outdoor activities, but there was much to enjoy in the cabin...i.e. pool table, bubble hockey, movies. Everytime I entered a room I noticed some new decoration, antique, picture. A lot of them hanging from the ceiling! Prior to leaving we were already setting dates for return next year. The place was VERY CLEAN, and well kept. The bi-level deck was thoroughly used/enjoyed staring out over the water. I was 100% satisfied with this booking. The memories made here will forever stay in our hearts. If you book here, you just have to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes. Whether you are active (hiking/biking) or just want a scenic drive through the dunes with places for wonderful photo moments, you just have to go. It was $10 for a week-long pass per car. Downtown Traverse City was fun also. The toughest time we had there was figuring out which light switch went with which light or fan, some lights had to be switched on the light device itself. I have severe allergies to pets, and there were no problems. I do have to say that this is a real-life cabin with woodburning fireplaces. The downstairs (not main-level) does smell like campfire all the time, but there are plenty of doors that can remain open to lessen the scent if sensitive (temp. permitting). The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking, the bathrooms were great, no roughing it at all! This cabin is just as it is pictured, plus one more amazing chair in front of the fireplace. The bedrooms were great, drawer and closet space available. Looking back at this listing, I miss it already.

Advice that might be helpful. Pack more layering clothes, it's crisper here than expected, and having a washer and dryer available to use was a blessing.

There are quite a many steps down to the water, you are actually higher up than expected. There is a 24 hr internet feed from the back of this property can be viewed at longlakefoundation.org (Cresent Shores)

Spectacular vaction and luxury cabin

  • 5 of 5

The pictures and descriptions are very accurate. We stayed here for a week and enjoyed endless sunrises over Long Lake eating breakfast and enjoying the wildlife. The cabin is very cozy and is outfitted to make your stay very comfortable. This is a great lake for fishing and to enjoy the outdoors. We saw a wild turkey in the yard, a bald eagle fly over the lake, turtles and countless beautiful woodpeckers while we sat on the front deck. We enjoyed campfires and grilling. TC is a short ride from the cabin where there are great restaurants and shopping. We especially like The Cook's House for dinner, Frenchie's for breakfast and the best coffee in the midwest, 9 bean rows for croissants and lastly Pleasanton Bakery for their amazing breads and amazing baked goods. I would highly recommend this house. It also comes with kayaks , a fishing boat and a pontoon boat, all of which we utilized and enjoyed. Thank you Dennis - a fantastic owner and manager who goes out of his way to make your stay perfect.

Fabulous Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We traveled from Florida to a spend a beautiful Fall week in Traverse City. The weather was absolutely perfect and so was our stay. The lovely home and Long Lake could not have been more breathtaking. My husband enjoyed fishing with the Pontoon Boat, and the first night Dennis came and made a roaring fire for us. He was a wonderful host and full of great advice on the local area activities and shops. The home was so comfortable and roomy and full of so many captivating items the owners had collected. We truly enjoyed our stay, and plan to return one day soon. We highly recommend this property to everyone!
