About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This is a lovely hideaway only an hour north of San Francisco. Situated 15 minutes away from Santa Rosa, it is in a quiet, private, rural setting. Three acres of California's rolling hills with natural grasses, old oaks, lush gardens, and your own vineyard give you the privacy to enjoy Sonoma County living at its best.

The house is casual and warm, with sets of French doors opening from almost every room onto flagstone patios, decks, lawn, and gardens. A private solar heated pool with an in-ground spa big enough for eight is just outside the master bedroom. It’s the place to watch the stars and the distant lights at night and great for just warming up after a cold dip in the pool. A waterfall at the edge of the pool has rocks you can sit on for sun and is also a good place to jump into the water.

The Great room houses the living room with fireplace, dining area, and gourmet kitchen with a Viking range, a Sub Zero refrigerator and Miele dishwasher. There are exposed beams and the ceiling reaches 12 feet high. Just outside the kitchen door is a large ground-level deck with charcoal grill, an herb garden and dining table and chairs.

Market umbrellas and six lounges are available around the pool for relaxing in the sun. The flagstone terrace, under an old Redwood tree and some Japanese Maples, Camellias and ferns, also has plenty of comfortable outdoor seating.

The three bedrooms in the house have very high ceilings and are brightly furnished with an eclectic French farmhouse feel. Each is distinct. One, with a queen bed, has a double set of French doors opening onto a deck. The second is small and cozy with a skylight and a double bed. A newly remodeled bathroom with toilet, sink and shower is located between these bedrooms and the Great room.

The master bedroom is a very spacious room with views from the bed out the French doors and all the windows. Just outside the door is the pool and spa. The master bath has a shower with room for two and a tub with a view. Big windows and a door out to a back deck make it bright and open.

The fourth bedroom is for the more adventurous in the group. It's a special, more rustic hideaway up a long stairway between rows of vines, then up some stone steps and paths even higher to the Quinta. Here, a large flat area on the hillside above the valley has been civilized with a romantic white fabric tent-cabin and an expansive patio. It's a bit of a hike to get there (though there is a gravel road you can drive up).

A queen-size bed, tables, chairs, lamps, and a CD player make it something like sleeping outdoors but with few of disadvantages. Antique windows look out over a view of the Sonoma Plain.

At night, you see the lights of towns and suburbs in the distance. On most days, you can see mountains on the other side of the valley and the coastal sky beyond. The patio has tables, chairs, lounges, and a small outdoor fireplace. It makes an ideal spot for gathering to catch the late afternoon rays or to watch the sunset--or the stars. On the other side of the patio, is a double hammock available for snoozing in the shade of a huge old oak tree.

A winding path leads to a charming, indoor/outdoor bathhouse (cold water only). A colorful Mexican sink is sheltered from any rain by a tin roof, The toilet is a modern composting toilet that is odor free.

The location has surprisingly easy access to Highway 101. There are many wineries in the area. The Russian River Area, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Healdsburg are close and the Sonoma coast is within an hour. The Napa Valley is about 45 minutes away. Best of all, most of this travel is over beautiful back roads.

Fantastic Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at your house in Santa Rosa. The bedroom situation was fantastic and gave everyone enough space for some alone and down time. We also spent a lot of time in and around the pool and hot tub which was very relaxing. The kitchen was very well equiped and perfect seating for a few meals outside around the table. Thank you!

Lovely property within an hour of Napa and Sonoma. The pool area is wonderful.

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of 7 and this was a great fit for us. The yurt is pretty far from the actual home but one of the couples in the group enjoyed the space and privacy. The pool area is just great. Even in cool weather, the pool was nicely heated. The kitchen had high-end appliances (sub zero fridge, Viking range) and the bathrooms were nice. We did notice quite a few spider webs and dust but overall it was a clean place with comfy beds and furniture.

Beautiful cottage in the clouds

  • 5 of 5

Wow...this is a beautiful place. We had hoped to enjoy Wine Country with 6 of our college friends, filled with days of wine tasting and good food; little did we anticipate how much we would love just being together at this house. It was perfectly suited for the 8 of us and we ended up having several meals there due to the property's locale and the kitchen being so well appointed. I would definitely recommend this place and found Evan to be extremely responsive to work with.

Comfortable Family Retreat and Celebration

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough positive to share all the hospitality that our host shared with us. From the adorable Tent House to the charming main home. Tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable. It felt like home. We had a small gathering for our son's graduation from Sonoma State University and all enjoyed the ambience, etc. A wonderful place for a family or corporate retreat. Grape arbors, compost toilet and shower enjoyed by our daughter and boyfriend. The weather cooperated as well. The owner lives in home above garage and we barely saw him. Such a wonderful man, I wish we had time to visit. Very learned and congenial. The Harris's from Indiana

This vacation spot was everything we could have asked for and Evan was a great host. He met us at the house and really took the time to show us around the property and made sure we were comfortable. He very graciously gave us two bottles of wine that were made from the grapes grown on the property. Delicious :)

The pictures showcased this property perfectly. We went for a family get together with three generations and had a fabulous time. There was no shortage of sitting areas with enough comfortable chairs for everyone. The view from The Quinta was fabulous and we spent most evenings sitting up there watching the sunset and basking in the last of the suns rays.

As the other reviewers all mentioned, it is a perfect place to relax, entertain, or just sit and enjoy watching the hummingbirds. We had a great time grilling out every night and the kitchen was more than adequate.

I totally agree with Art ... if I could have given it more stars, I would have. We hated to leave. Would love to come back again!

A group of us (friends) stayed here October 5th-8th to celebrate a few of our wedding anniversaries. We had such an outstanding time here. The place is absolutely beautiful. The layout of the house is perfect for entertaining. The hot tub and swimming pool and overall outdoor spaces to enjoy were amazing.

We give this place 5 stars (because we can't select more). We would all come back and visit again!
