About The Owner

I own Hopewood ,our family farm where I grew up, jointly with my brother. We both built our homes on the farm's shore side. I am retired and very much enjoy life in Pemaquid year round. I stay busy volunteering and as the maintenance person for this property and a small fleet of boats.

The Owner purchased this house in 1999

Why The Owner chose Pemaquid

We inherited this 150 acre former poultry farm and actively manage the woodlot.

What makes this house unique

Hopewood is a very beautiful property with open fields, a large woodlot with trails, several acres of lawns and tidal shore frontage on John's Bay. We enjoy this property year round sailing in John's Bay,striper fishing, kayaking, swimming, clamming, biking, and running our tractor and saw mill.

Wonderful Maine Home!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week at this classic Maine farmhouse. It's proximity to the Pemaquid point and beach and New Harbor is nice and it is close enough to Boothbay Harbor to visit for the evening. The home has plenty of room for a large family. We look forward to staying again in the future.

Pemaquid Perfection

  • 5 of 5

The house is perfect for family and friends to share. Comfortable, spacious, ideal location, quiet. Less than five minutes to Pemaquid beach. Would be spectacular in fall...just a lovely space for gathering, lingering over meals and conversations. The owners are very helpful and accessible but not intrusive. We really loved our time here and will return!

This place is magical, a wonderful place to stay, and Michael and Margo are welcoming, and attentive to anything you will need. Hopewood exceeded our expectations in every way. The photos and listing descriptions are accurate, but they do not do justice to the natural beauty of the location, the privacy (the house is set off the road, with a lovely view), and the general warmth of this house. This house is set off the road with an expansive yard and lovely view, we brought a small dog, and the yard was great for him (large and safe), but I also think it would be great for children. This is a beautiful old historic farmhouse, it is very well kept and clean, but it is not new- so if that's your thing- keep it in mind.

We were here with family and friends and the layout of the yard, the large tavern at the back of the house, and the privacy made this a perfect place to entertain inside OR out. The tavern is connected to but extended from the house and has a very long table, with fireplace, and a door that leads directly to the yard, making it a natural transition once the sun went down, to gather at the table, and no matter how late people stay up, the rest of the house is quiet. We LOVED it.

Michael and Margo made sure that we had everything we needed, they checked in with us on arrival to let us know where to get groceries, and to see what if anything we would need. Michael got us set up with an outdoor lobster cooker, a grill, some fresh garden zucchini and they both clued us on where to get local seafood. They simultaneously made themselves available, and gave us privacy.

The location is also terrific, a four mile drive to the beach, local grocer, Fort William Henry, and a mile or so local fisherman's co-op (which was awesome). The Walpole Barn about 3 miles north had great selections of wine and fresh oysters- so good we graduated from dozens to coolers full of them. I also recommend the Pemaquid Ocean Tours with Captain Russ- so fun.

Staying at Hopewood was such a great experience for us that we are returning this year and decided to extend our visit. Michael and Margo are the best owner/hosts, and they were kind enough to send us photos of the place after a fresh snowfall (too bad they don't rent in the winter) . I highly recommend it! A great place to vacation with friends, family, or children.

Quintessential Maine Vacation !!

  • 5 of 5

Our family is heading back to Hopewood for the third year! This classic Maine Farmhouse is comfortable with loads of charm and ample space for everyone. Our favorite spot is the Tavern room with its oversized table. Many evenings are spent here enjoying dinner and game night not to mention a cocktail or two. A well equipped kitchen, charming bedrooms and a washer/dryer which is deluxe. This property offers a lovely view, access to the water and a yard perfect for kids and pets. Prior to finding Hopewood we spent years on the Maine Coast exploring and staying in many different cottages. This is now our families favorite! Although rural it is within proximity to many of the fine attractions of mid coast Maine, such as Pemaquid Lighthouse and one of the prettiest sandy beaches in Maine! This is a classic Maine farmhouse, if you enjoy family and fun on the seacoast this is the place to be! We can't wait to go back! Gary & Susan
