Welcome to Beachfield, what a great retreat! Step back in time and enjoy this traditional Dutch colonial summer home constructed in 1931 by Plymouth boat builder Leonard M. Burgess. You can just feel the great memories of the past and create your own now in this historic treasure. Lots of room outside for games and relaxation. We are a short walk to Whitehorse Beach, have a peaceful overlook of Bartletts Pond from the cobblestone patios and are located in a very nice neighborhood. Appreciate the indoor charm with a beautiful central fireplace and very comfortable enclosed sun porch. We are a family oriented and adult get-away, not a party house. Strictly non smoking home.

Great Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family enjoyed our vacation at Beachfield. The house is charming. It was clean and very much as described online. Kevin was great throughout the process, answering questions, providing receipts for the checks, and checking in to make sure we had arrived and had everything we needed. There was one set of towels per occupant and a set of dish towels for the kitchen. It was great to have 5 nice beach towels and 4 beach chairs provided for our use. The outdoor shower was also a great perk and the washer and dryer were much appreciated. With many food allergies in our family, we did most of our cooking and eating at the house -- easy to do with a nice stove and refrigerator, decent counter space, and a great grill out back. The yard was large, as described, and quite peaceful. We enjoyed watching the mother swan and her goslings on the pond across the street. We brought a badminton net and the kids had a great time with it.

The many windows made it easy to keep the house cool as long as there was a breeze ... on days when we had to shut things up because of potential rain, it got sticky very quickly inside, but there were numerous ceiling fans and box fans upstairs to help with that. And summer humidity is certainly to be expected at the beach!

It's less than a 1/4-mile to a very nice part of White Horse Beach. Though we hear it gets crowded on really hot days, it was very quiet the week we were there; it the morning and evening it felt almost like we were the only ones there. The beach changes dramatically with the tide -- low tide is a great time for sand castles, bird watching, Frisbee and flying kites as the softer sand is exposed. High tide has its own beauty and warmer waters for wading. We appreciated that Kevin provided a current chart of the tides and sunrise/sunset times.

There are a number of historical places to enjoy within a short drive, including Plimoth Plantation, which was wonderful. The Fish Market on the town wharf is a great place to get inexpensive and very fresh seafood to cook back at the house. (The restaurant also looked great, though we did not eat there.) The house is about a 20-minute drive to the Cape Cod Canal which made for an easy day trip to places on the Cape. It is also only about 30 minutes from the nearest T-station to go into Boston.

Beachfield is a great beach house with extra charm, and a great balance of proximity to the beach yet at a reasonable distance.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife, three children, and I arrived at the "Beachfield" house Saturday evening and enjoyed a great week of vacation. The neighborhood was nice, the beach a very close walk, and the house a joy to stay in. It seemed always possible on the weekday afternoons we went down to find a nice area on the beach, without a large amount of people. It felt like having our own private beach at some points. As the later afternoon came on and the weekend came there were more people at the beach, but it was still a great experience. We enjoyed going to Plimouth Plantation, the Mayflower, and walking around downtown Plymouth during our stay. We also caught a Red Sox game (Boston being a little under an hour away), and went to the Aquarium, Quincy Market, and the Boston Science Museum. My son really enjoyed the games (cards, checkers, monopoly) that were in the cabin and we all played quite a few games of checkers. In the mornings, before the family woke up, I would sit on the sun porch area with the windows open, feeling a nice breeze from the ocean, and catch up on the news with my iPad (WiFi was very-very good here). We were so busy we didn't get a chance to use the back yard (nice picnic table, grill, outdoor fireplace) -- My family definitely wants to visit again.

Wonderful experience

  • 5 of 5

Walking in the door my wife and I were thrilled to see a combination of quaint old world feel combined with neat features (e.g. Verizon FIOS with HBO, Starz etc, big screen TV, ipod/iphone hookups to the stereo and FAST Wifi).

50 yards to the beach access - an easy walk (even with a 4yo and a 2yo in tow) but far enough away from all the "razzle dazzle" to relax on their large outdoor patio with a great gas grill and a wood stove for a fire outdoors. There was even a large stack of firewood waiting for us.

Beds were comfy and each bedroom had a good quiet ceiling fan to help remain cool. The indoor shower was great - lots of hot water and good pressure. The outdoor shower was nicely appointed and easy to access - large enough to help rinse off the kids after a big day at the beach. The kids had a blast in the sprinkler in the large quiet back yard.

In prior years we've stayed in two other places right near there - one lower end and one higher end but this was the best mix of all and good value for the money. Neighborhood was quiet too. If I have enough time and money we want to go back again later this summer. If not we will DEFINITELY come back here in future.

The proprietor was wonderful throughout the entire process and called us on our first night to make sure everything was to our liking - it was . . . . and then some.

Perfect beach getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a quiet and relaxing spot so close to a beautiful sandy beach!

We enjoyed our coffee in the morning as well as dinner in the evening on the patio overlooking the pond.

There was plenty of room for the whole family. Our favorite things were the outdoor shower which was recently built and is very spacious and private and the small bedroom which is so cozy- sure to be the kids favorite.

We'll be back!!

Great Vacation Spot at White Horse Beach!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I, and our extended family have been vacationing at White Horse Beach for 8+years. We have stayed in many different cottages and I am happy to say that the Beachfield has been one of the best! We have 3 children (ages 8, 4 and 1) and they loved the yard for playing ball in the morning before making our way to beautiful White Horse Beach (2 minute walk) and you can't beat the patio with table and umbrella for enjoying a clambake dinner. It was fun having the fire pit for making smores and the brand new gas grill made lunches quick and easy. Not many cottages in the area have such a big yards and it really is a bonus.

The Beachfield is definitely a summer cottage. I wouldn't say its rustic, but its not luxury. But my idea of a summer vacation at the beach involves being in a cottage that feels like a cottage.

The bedrooms are ample size for a medium size family. Two rooms have comfortable double beds with nice comforters and pillows (they also provide clean linens) Third bedroom has two twins and we fit a baby crib in this room. The fourth bedroom is tiny with just a twin bed and nightstand (great for visitors). Downstairs on the sun porch is a pull out futon that is fine for 2 adults and the french doors close at night to make it seem like a 5th bedroom.

The kitchen is small but charming with bright yellow cabinets. It is stocked with plenty of dishes and utensils. It has a coffee maker, toaster oven and microwave. The fridge is around the corner in a small alcove, but another bonus lies there too..a brand new washer and dryer. We didn't use the washer much, but the dryer is a life saver for all those wet towels that never seem to dry!

The only bathroom upstairs is small but charming. I loved the old fashioned claw foot tub and the shower head was super strong.

When on vacation at the beach, we always prefer to shower outside- actually my kids look forward to the outside showers! This cottage does have an outside shower with hot water for rinsing off, but it is not enclosed, so the kids took off their bathing suits, we did not!

If you are looking for a true beach cottage vacation I would highly recommend renting the Beachfield. The owners are lovely and have worked hard updating the cottage-I forgot to mention the big TV in the living room with Verizon Fios! and make the cottage a great vacation get away.

Two more things- plenty of barrels for trash and parking for at least 3 cars (both important but not always provided elsewhere)

Great Family Spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time with the large yard. Plenty of room for badminton on the new side lawn. The house is charming with good size bedrooms for privacy to nap, read, or play games. The beach is a short walk (one city block) several miles long and very clean. The outdoor hot shower and large stone patio were our favorites. We will be back!
