About John Stenicka

We love Colorado's mountain lake areas and we found ourselves spending so much time up here with our young family that we bought a cabin and then another and before long I was building, buying and selling throughout Grand County. This home is our latest design and was built by us to take advantage of its unique location. We are proud of the design and feel of the home and think you will love it too.

John Stenicka purchased this house in 2006

Why John Stenicka chose Northwest

Grand County is in very close proximity to the metro Denver area and is a year round playground... snow brings on cross-country and alpine skiing (Sol Vista & Winter Park) and snowmobiling on over 100 miles of groomed trails.

The summer months we can play in and on the lake, out on the islands and of course the magnificent Rocky Mountain National Park. Locals will ride ATV's, take hikes, fish (rivers and lakes abound) and play on their jet skis and power boats and don' forget sailing on magnificent Grand Lake. Spring brings it's flowers and in the fall we have some of the most outstanding aspen seasons along with the elk rooting in RMNP so it is a true 4 season destination.

The Fall season is wonderful with the highlight being the Aspens and Elk rutting in RMNP.

What makes this house unique

-Access to the public dock at the south shore of Shadow Mountain Lake -proximity to the Town of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park -one of the best subdivisions in Grand County -snowmobiling on the lake (during certain times of the year) -hiking to Adams Falls & Monarch Lake

Guestbook comments from the owner

We wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay at the house on Shadow Mountain Lake. The view was nice, we fit everyone into the house without a problem and it was clean and smoke free. Our girls all settled in – in fact my daughter wants to go back next year. I’m sorry to hear that the lock box is giving you a problem, we hope your next guests were able to get it open.

Thanks again for the quick response, great communication, and professionalism.

Cheers,

Surrounded by exquisite custom accents

VRBO Bear stayed here

Feb 19, 2010

This custom built home located in The Shores of Shadow Mountain subdivision could be considered the perfect “home away from home”. It is only a 10 minute drive to town and just a short walk to the lake. Could it get any better? When I arrived with my traveling companions, John, the homeowner greeted us and gave us a complete tour of this spectacular home. At one point, we gazed out the “crow’s nest” windows in awe of the lake and mountain views. We were blessed to see the amazing flight of a bald eagle (where was my camera when I really needed it- still packed). The air was cold and crisp while the snow was sparkly and fresh. The lake views were breathtaking, especially one morning when the fog rolled off the lake. You could see the crystal trees that had been coated by frost as the fog moved across the lake and land. This home featured exquisite furnishings and custom accents from top-to-bottom. Each bedroom was warm and welcoming. The master bedroom had a great breakfast/reading deck (which a furry bear like me can enjoy this time of year), and the master bathroom truly made me feel like royalty. The kitchen was beautiful and very well equipped with everything you could imagine to cook a meal. While we ate and played games, the fireplace located between the kitchen and the living room kept everyone nice and toasty. My favorite feature was the radiant floor heating; it was so wonderful to pad across the warm, cozy floors. I could have hibernated just resting on the radiant, warm floor. Some of my companions enjoyed a morning of snowmobiling up on the trails and others took snowboarding lessons at Sol-Vista Ski Resort, which was only a 30 minute drive. We went bowling at the Grand Lake Bowling Alley and went sledding on the nearby sledding hill. However, the best part of the trip was hanging out and laughing together, in the warmth of this amazing “home away from home.” Grand Lake was a very quaint small town, but still offered a couple of small grocery stores and several different restaurants. On our final night in Grand Lake, we went to town and dined at a Mexican restaurant called Poncho and Lefty’s. The food was very yummy. You will not be disappointed with a stay in this exquisite home! The VRBO Bear

Best Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I take a week of vacation during late May every year in different areas of the country to enjoy some hiking and some quiet time. We have certainly found our new "favorite place to go". The home truly exceeded all of our expectations and was by far the best rental we have ever stayed at. From the fully equipped kitchen to the cozy and comfortable living area this home was every thing we could have asked for. We definitely look forward to making another trip to Riggins Paradise.

Repeat customers

This is the second year we have stayed here and already have started the process to stay here again next year. It is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. It is so peaceful here in the development and we love being close to the lakes and the village of Grand lake. We love the proximity to the Grand lake Nordic center as we love cross country skiing. We do downhill ski at Winter Park but don't mind the 35 minute drive which is beautiful. There are many nice hikes nearby and of course RMNP only 6 miles away. You can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from this home which sits on a high ridge. I can't imagine a more beautiful and comfortable home to stay at while enjoying the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

A great house for people to spread out

  • 4 of 5

We celebrated my in-laws' 75th birthdays here. There were between 10 and 12 people, depending on the night. This house is large and has a floorplan that provides lots of space to spread out. The little kids watched TV in the basement or jumped rope on the deck. The grownups gathered around the dinner table or out on the deck.

The home is not overloaded with provisions or basic cooking supplies but we had all we needed. We loved the extra large granite countertop with bar chairs where we could cook, talk, and lay out snacks to eat.

The TV was easy to operate and the internet was great, even with all of us using the Wi-Fi on our iPads and smart phones.

The house provided easy access to the boat ramp just down the road at Shadow Mtn. Lake. There was enough room to park 4 cars.

It's a 5 - 10 minute drive to the town of GL. Neighbors are nearby but the houses are set apart so you don't feel like you're in a neighborhood. The views are spectacular. You can see the lake from the front of the house and the mountains and sky from the back deck.

We hope to rent this home again. I would have given it an excellent rating except for a few small issues that could be easily fixed:

*The pillows were so flat and uncomfortable. The padding was non-existent. If we stayed here again we would all bring our own pillows.

My father-in-law said the shower heads in the master bath had mineral buildup that caused some of the holes to be blocked. He said he danced around trying to get all wet :-)

The pullout bed on one of the couches was in disrepair so we put the kids on mattresses on the floor.

The trundle bed in the basement bedroom was comfortable but very squeaky.

All things considered this is a great place for a big group.

Our family and grand kids had a wonder time at this mountain home. We had enough room for all our kids and grand kids. A wonderful retreat for extended families. Our only disappointment was the elevator did not work---as a result we had to call my 85 year old mother who is disabled and tell her not to come to this mountain home with my sister as she would not be able to get to any of the bedrooms. This was one of the main reasons why we rented this mountain home----the elevator!!! We notified the landlord and he did come and look at the elevator and said he would call for service. That was the last we heard from him. It never got fixed while we were there. I feel like I paid for something that I didn't get!!! Don't let this review stop you from renting this nice retreat----if you need the elevator you might want to double check to see if it works. We felt awful for our Mom!!!

Owner's Response: Apologies to the guests for the elevator issue. It is a problem getting service in the mountains, the "local" factory service has to come from Ft Collins.. I did come out to review and confirm the situation, escalated issue to the Tech Support and was able to return the elevator back in to service albeit after this guest's stay was completed. Elevators have a lot of moving parts, this particular issue was a first time incident. I do of course regret that it negatively affected the guests stay and did not communicate as effectively as I should have under the circumstances described in the review.
