Welcome to our home on Rue de Seine in the heart of the St. Germain des Pres Art District. Surrounded by galleries, restaurants, gourmet food shops, bakeries, chocolate shops, jewelry artists, home design stores, everything you need to make your stay a piece of Parisian life.
Conveniently located between the river and Blvd. St. Germain, you are an easy walk to many of the main attractions of Paris. Cross over the Seine on the Pont des Arts (check out the Eiffel Tower from the bridge) at the end of our street and you are at the Louvre, Cut through the courtyard of the Louvre and you are in the Tuileries where you can enjoy lunch under the trees at one of the outdoor restaurants. Sitting there you can imagine the gardens a hundred years ago with children sailing their boats or rolling hoops dressed in their turn of the century finery.
A short walk along the river in one direction is Notre Dame. A short walk along the river in the other direction is the Musée d'Orsay and the Promenade des Berge de la Seine with the floating gardens and a variety of restaurants. A few blocks to the south and you are in Luxembourg Garden or a few blocks to the north and you are in the Jardin du Palais Royal. Either garden is a wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful plantings, get some sun, stop at a cafe and do some people watching. Later, walk a few short blocks to the Pont Neuf and you can take a romantic night time cruise on the river.
Escape from the bustling streets through large wooden doors and through the secured iron gate into the quiet of the old paver-stoned courtyard and our two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. It is a very comfortable, cozy, private, and safe apartment conveniently located on the ground floor corner of the historic building once home to the author, George Sand.
The décor is representative of traditional Parisian style, while the living is completely in the present. There are old beams, wood floors, and an old stone wall in one of the bedrooms. There is also a terrace looking out over an enclosed courtyard in the back.
The kitchen, equipped for serious cooks, with full-sized multi-function appliances and a black honed granite counter and sink provides you with the place to create that special meal with the food you have purchased at the local markets. Many of our guests have commented how much they enjoy being able to fix a simple or a complex feast as an alternative to dining out for every meal.
If you need more inspiration for your feast than just being in Paris, take a look through the assortment of cookbooks on the floor to ceiling bookcases that line the entry hall and the kitchen wall. You will also find books on Paris and France, history and culture, travel, and art.
After a long day of exploring the city, museum hopping, fine dining, it is a pleasure to return to Rue de Seine and relax in comfort. The two bedrooms, one in the front of the apartment and the other in the back, each have queen size iron beds with quality mattresses, high thread count linens, and duvets as well as light-blocking drapes. In case you are not relaxed enough, there is a tub in the master bath, for a nice soak or you could have a nice shower in the front bedroom and be ready to hit the streets again to explore the neighborhood nightlife.
If you do get a second wind and feel like venturing out again, step back through the wooden doors onto the street and join the flow of Parisians and others like you getting the most out of the rest of their day-- walking, talking, and people watching.
My husband and I lived and worked in the South of France for seven years. When we retired, we decided we wanted to stay in France so we bought our apartment in Paris. The apartment was in pretty bad shape, but that was good because it gave us the chance to completely remake it. We like food, books, flowers, and traditional things which you will see in our apartment. We also like to travel, so we have decided to make the apartment available for rent while we are elsewhere. We are really happy to be living in Paris because of all of the things there are to do, the fact that you don't need a car, and it is so easy to get your exercise in just walking around looking at the beauty of the place.
Katy O'Reilly purchased this apartment in 2005
The 6th for us is the heart of Paris. It is a neighborhood with so much going on, plus it is so centrally located and well connected to metros and buses that we can easily get anywhere quickly if we decide it is a little too far to walk. There are so many interesting restaurants and we also appreciate the amazing bookstores in the 6th and the number of movie theaters close to us...first run international to old classic American films! When we used to come to Paris on vacation somehow, without even planning it, we always ended up in the 6th. We chose this particular property because it is in a very classic, well located, and well maintained historic building. The opportunity to restore the apartment was a plus and also the opportunity to get to know many of the very interesting people in our building.
Opening the wood front doors and feeling the cool air in the stone entry on a hot day. Looking through the iron grille at our inviting front courtyard. Stepping inside our front door into the apartment where it is so calm and quiet. Getting bread at our favorite bakery on rue de Buci, fixing a pot of coffee in the apartment, sitting on the terrace going through our email, reading the news and then taking off to walk around the city to check out new exhibits at nearby museums, enjoy the new flowers in the gardens, try a new or an old favorite local restaurant, and take a night time walk along Blvd St. Germain looking in the lit up store windows.
The apartment was exactly as advertised. Perfect for two couples. We truly felt like Parisians during our stay, walking to the markets and bakeries. I would stay here again and will recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Paris.
Great apartment. Great location. Reception and transfer services great.
The apt. is ideally located to access all main attractions, metro, restaurants, etc., yet it was quiet and peaceful. We were greeted at the apt. and given an overview of the "workings." The property manager also assisted us with car transport from the airport which made our trip into the city very easy.
At the apt. we enjoyed having our coffee on the patio and planning our days. It was really a lovely 4-day stay for us (2 couples) in Paris and we did not have to spend precious time locating taxis or metro lines to get around. The kitchen is well stocked for preparing meals if you desire and we enjoyed all the regional cookbooks and travel books. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
The apartment at the north end of Rue de Seine could not located more perfectly. A quiet building on a street lined with art galleries, minutes from the Orsay, Louvre, Saint Chapelle and Notre Dame. Just a short walk to the metro to access all the further-away must-see sites of Paris. Loved the information book in the apartment that explained how all the appliances worked (different from what we are accustomed to in the USA) and the excellent tips on grocery and wine stores, bakeries, restaurants, cafes, etc., all within a short walk of the apartment. So very convenient! The apartment furnishings were comfortable and very serviceable for the adult couples in our group, easily handling dinner in the apartment one evening. Super kitchen that is well-equipped, lots of great picture and cookbooks on the shelves...I could go on and on. We will return for a longer stay! A terrific extra was the owner putting us in touch before the trip with a private taxi service that picked us up at the train station on arrival and took us to the airport for departure. It was worth every penny.
When planning our first trip to Paris, we were unsure of the best location for our stay. After consulting family, friends, travel books and websites, we decided on this Rue de Seine apartment. We could not have been more pleased, as it is a lovely, comfortable place. The bedrooms are at opposite ends of the sitting room/kitchen area, creating a nice layout for two couples or a small family. Kitchen appliances, cookware, dishes, and utensils are new, handy and plentiful. We were particularly satisfied with the responsive Wi-Fi connection. The small deck overlooking the inner courtyard provides a relaxing setting for the end of day. When drawn, the substantial, room-darkening bedroom drapes allowed for much-needed jet-lag repair (on their comfortable mattress).
The location is hard to beat: the Seine and the Louvre are reachable by a 5-minute walk; Ile de la Cite is only a bit further. Many restaurants and shops are within a few hundred yards and a small market just steps from the front door.
Bringing it all together are the owner and management team. Katy responded to every question quickly and cheerfully. Joseph and Sean met us on the day of our arrival and ensured that we were settled and comfortable. It all added up to a perfect introduction to Paris
The apartment is very charming and comfortable and in a really great location. Separation of the two bedrooms gives privacy. Kitchen beautifully equipped. We were very reluctant to leave. We hope to return.
