Boating and watersports, of course. But also in the area are great hiking and bicycling trails and paths. Coeur d'Alene is only 15-20 minutes by car, or about 10 minutes by boat, and is a great place to shop, eat, play and just walk around town.

Good accomodations, Good Host

  • 5 of 5

Two friends and I stayed for about a week. House and Float House were both as described and pictured. Locations is convenient to CDA downtown and vicinity but you are in a quiet locale with great view and access to the Lake. Host was very responsive and we had no issues with our stay. As noted, walk down to Float House is steep and can be tricky at night (although pathway has some lights) but was worth it as Float House is great place to relax and sleep. Note also that there is no AC but even though we were there in heat wave the temperature at night was not a problem for sleeping (and Lake is instant cool off during the day). We recommend staying here when in CDA.

Great family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at this VRBO. There were 10 of us total- 4 adults and 6 kids. Kids ages ranged from 2-14. There main house is a nice size with all the bedrooms upstairs and the kitchen and living room on the main floor. There are beautiful views of the lake. The float house is very nice and in great condition. We hung out there a lot in the afternoon and early evening, and had fun swimming, eating appetizers and sipping drinks. The staircase/trail down to the float house is a bit of a haul, but did not deter any of us from going back and forth at any time. It is well lit with solar lights at night, but good to also bring a head lamp for extra light. The kitchens were well stocked in both the main house and float house. There are many water accessories available- floatation devices, life jackets, and a canoe. There is a gas BBQ and a charcoal grill at the main house and a charcoal grill at the float house. Overall, we had everything that we needed. It was a great spot for families, and was very comfortable. The hot tub and air hockey table were a total bonus, and provided many hours of enjoyment. Teresa was very responsive through out the process of renting and contracts. She was quick to answer questions, and when we had a issue with the hot tub that we couldn't fix, she came out with someone and fixed it while we were boating. We are definitely coming back next summer.

Fantastic experience! Will do it again next year!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in both the cabin and float house for 4 days with girlfriend and two other couples. This was my first time renting a property on the lake and I was not disappointed. The first thing that stood out was the views. Whoever designed the cabin knew what they were doing as you have a view of the water from every room. The cooking amenities were basic, but were what we expected. We did appreciate the large bbq on the deck as we spent a lot of time grilling and relaxing. We were also pleasantly surprised to find many board games which provided hours of entertainment in the evening (of course, I won most of the time). The float house was a blast (I didn't even know there was such a thing). I caught 2 large bass and a trout fishing right off the dock, while the girls took advantage of the upper sundeck in the morning to do a little tanning. I was a little concerned about sleeping in the float house because it sways slightly, but actually found it soothing, and I slept great!

The location was great. We brought a boat and spent part of a day in CDA shopping and went to a resort called Arrow Point for breakfast one morning. Both places were within a 10min boat ride. There was also a beach area with a fire pit, which we were not aware of before we got there, that was great for roasting Smoars.

If this were my property, there are maybe a couple things I would change. The addition of a hot tub at the cabin and a diving board on the dock would be WAY cool. Overall, it was an amazing experience and myself as well as my friends, were talking about it for weeks after. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get away for a week. The owners were also a pleasure to do business with and very accommodating. Thanks Billy and Teresa!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Justin. I'm so glad you liked the place! And... your suggestion about a hot tub didn't fall on deaf ears. My husband has been lobbying for it, too! We will definitely take a close look at that idea. Again, thanks for the comments and we hope to see you next summer! Teresa

We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to relax and enjoy the lake. The open layout in the upper house made it fun to relax with the family with beautiful lake views. Our young son had a great time playing in the beach area and roasting marshmallows at the lakeside firepit. The float house below was great for lounging and enjoying swimming and just hanging out right on the water. What a great facility for family fun and relaxation!

A few changes and the stay would have been excellent

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I joined my girl friend and her family for a few days stay at the lake. We stayed in the float house. I think the float house makes the property work. If we would have had to stay in the upper house for the 5 days we were there it would have been very boring after day 2. It is unfortunate that people who review the property can't post their own photos, the professional photos can be deceptive.

I found several items in the upper house a bit off. First the TV is in a closet upstairs in bedroom, if anyone wants to watch a movie I am not sure what they would do, carry it down to the living room? This is a vacation home and there is no blender in either of the kitchens. There is a stereo system in the upper house, but the CD player doesn't work so you are stuck with radio. The float house does not have any music at all, had that been on the web site I could have adjusted for that and brought an iPod dock for us to use when we were there. Also for the price of the rental the linens need to be updated. The sheets on the bed in the float house were simply unacceptable. They were very old and very scratchy, I was surprised they didn't have holes in them. There is quite a bit of road noise from the freeway across the lake, if you are a light sleeper I recommend ear plugs. The path to the float house from the upper house is lit, but I recommend that you use a flash light when going down at night some areas of the path are a bit dark.

The house is equipped with basic kitchen items. There are life vests, items to use to float in the lake with, which we really enjoyed, a canoe, and lots of puzzles. The grill at the float house is a charcoal grill the one at the top house is a gas grill. I recommend you bring all personal items. People do leave a few hotel sized items for use. Bring your own hair dryer, extra toilet paper, and tissue. A few small adjustments and this could be a top notch rental. I was also surprised at the lack of info in the house about things to do. We rent houses/condos a lot and always go to the "binder" in the house for information. There is no internet- I didn't bring a computer but that information should have been on the rental page. While the house may be only 15 miles from the "city" be aware it take a while to get there so plan your shopping accordingly -- don't waste time driving back and forth to town. We enjoyed our stay and had a lot of fun.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback, Susan. We really appreciate it and will use your comments to help future guests. I will fix the stereo or replace it - wasn't aware the CD player wasn't working. And we'll stock both kitchens with a blender! New sheets for the floathouse are already on site and we'll get rid of those "scratchy" ones. Finally, we'll work to update the description fields to give some more clarity. Glad you had a good time, and we hope to have you back.

If they would sell it we ...

  • 5 of 5

If they would sell it we would buy it! Our family has spent our last 2 vacations at the Carter Cabin and we love it. It is so peaceful and private. It is fully furnished, all we bring is our suits and meals and we are set. It is only a quick drive to town if you need something. Views from every room in the house are amazing, there a games to play, books for reading, the floathouse area is wonderful too for swimming, fishing, or just hanging out. We are staying again this year in July and can't wait! Owners of this property are also very nice and easy to work with!
