Great place for a family reunion!

  • 4 of 5

Our family was thrilled with the house and the location. We were 9, ages 16-76. Plenty of sleeping space. We loved the openness of the design with the huge high ceiling great room, spacious and well equipped kitchen, lovely covered porch. My sons remarked that they could see us doing a long weekend at Ridge Retreat again sometime, even though it's a 3.5 hour drive for each family. The afternoon we spent on the lake with a pontoon boat was the highlight. the kids all got to water ski and do the inner tub. Made Gramma's heart happy to be doing things with my kids that we all loved so much when everyone was younger. The weather Gods were with us so we could be very active, hiking, biking, boating. My thanks to Ron for making this lovely retreat available.

Ridge Retreat...the huge tree house in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Ridge Retreat for about 10 people in town for my daughter's PSU graduation! The house was extremely spacious and clean. The back deck view was incredible and gave the feel of being up in the trees. It was in close proximity to the grocery store and other amenities. The drive to PSU was about 30 miles, easy drive with lots of beautiful farm land to see along the way. The owner, Ron, was great to work with and was great with directions and information to know regarding specifics of the house. Was very accessible for any questions or concerns. Would highly recommend this rental, especially with a group of people!

Great property, excellent house, and overall nice experience.

We stayed here in July 2016 for a wedding in Huntingdon and made a week of it on Raystown Lake. The location was great as it is only 10 minutes from all the retail needs in Huntingdon, about 25 minutes from Seven Points Marina, and yet very isolated at the top of the mountain. The community road and driveway to the house are unpaved and parts are fairly steep as the description notes, but it isn't too bad of a drive and can be done in most any vehicle (my sister-in-law did it in a fully loaded minivan with no issues).

The house is well laid out with two bedrooms on the main (entry) floor and two on the second floor (each floor has one bedroom with a queen bed and one with two twins). The master bedroom is on the main floor and has its own master bath. Each floor also has a large shared bathroom. There's also a really nice loft on the second floor directly above the kitchen that is a great area for the kids to sleep. There were already four air mattresses in the loft when we arrived, so our kids and their cousins had a blast sleeping up there. The stacked washer and dryer comes in handy too. Finally, there's a great deck that wraps around two sides of the house with plenty of room for grilling and enjoying the outdoors.

Overall excellent stay, great value for the price, and we will definitely be back!

Great retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 had a fabulous long weekend at the Ridge Retreat. The rooms were very comfortable and the house had a fabulous view of the sunset over the mountains. The kitchen was well stocked and there were more than enough dishes and cups for everyone. I would return to the Ridge Retreat if the opportunity arose.

excellent choice for a relaxing weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend in October with a couple of friends and a bunch of small kids. We have found exactly what we were looking for: a nice house in the middle of Pennsylvania's woods for us to enjoy the time together. The house is fantastic, and the location is great (convenient to everywhere but still feeling private and isolate). Everything was in perfect condition and there was a lot of space for all of us (we slept very comfortable being 10 and the kids still had the extra space of the 'sleeping loft' to play around). Raystown Lake area has a lot to offer, we particularly enjoyed walking around the lake, driving around and enjoying fall colors and visiting nearby farms! We would definiely recommend this property to friends and relatives!

A thanksgiving feast in Huntingdon PA

  • 4 of 5

The cabin had ample kitchen facilities and seating for 10. TV was on the smaller size for the room. Not much to do in town but great get away for hiking and nature lovers.

About The Owner

My wife and I are active in many art and craft areas. My wife plays in two community bands that perform on a professional level. I enjoy making furniture and doing cabinet work. and we are both readers. Therefore the peaceful location of our mountain retreat seemed to be just suited for our tastes. Yet, if you are more active, if you enjoy physical activities there is so much to see and do in this area that no matter what your interests you will find enjoyment.

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Huntingdon

My Wife and I fell in love with the solitude of this location and yet it is accessible and easy to reach from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington DC and Northern VA. It offers such a variety of activities that it would take a month to visit all of the historical sites, fish all the streams and the lake, bike all the trails, hike all of the logging trails, or---just sit on the deck with a book , the sun and the birds.

What makes this house unique

When the retreat is fully occupied with 12 to 14 persons there is plenty of room. There is a long narrow 3rd floor room, originally built as a writers nook with the best views of all, accessible by a spiral staircase from the sleeping loft over the kitchen. This room became the perfect clubhouse for my grandchildren when they were between the ages of seven to thirteen. Even when there were beds available they preferred to sleep in sleeping bags on the fully carpeted and well padded floor. we would see them now and again when they got hungry and came down for meals.
