About James Lebair

The Lebair Cottage was purchased in December of 1948 by our Grandfather. During the 1950's, my grandfather added and enlarged the cottage to accommodate his growing family of five grand children. Today, our families and many friends enjoy the beauty and fun of this wonderful slice of heaven in Maine

James Lebair purchased this cottage in 1948

Why James Lebair chose Camden

The Lebair Cottage is located on Lake Megunticook, Camden Maine in the Penobscot Bay Region. Lake Megunticook is just 3 miles from the coast, surrounded by the Camden Mountains. The local saying is 'Where the Mountains Meet the Sea.' The Penobscot bay also hosts Mt. Cadillac, on Mt. Desert Island (Bar Harbor) in Arcadia National Park.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage sleeps up to 10 with 4 bedroom, 1.5+ baths, a spacious family room, breakfast room with a beautiful view of the lake, and a large covered front Porch. We are directly on the lake waterfront that includes multi-level patios and a boating and swimming dock. Hiking trails, boating, fishing, reading, dinning, shopping (1 hr. from L.L. Beans too), schooner rides on the Atlantic Ocean, antiquing, and relaxing are some of the many wonderful activities a stay at our cottage will provide.

ALL YOU COULD ASK FOR!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here twice now and would gladly return every year if I could. The property itself is delightful with everything you could need for a relaxing, peaceful vacation. Morning coffee on the porch and sunsets whilst kayaking on the lake are just two of the things I find myself thinking about when I'm not there. Camden is a short drive away with restaurants and shops but it's the peace and quiet that lake life provides that you'll appreciate. Perfect!

Beautiful vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

This cottage and the lake are a beautiful vacation spot. The cottage is very comfortable and the lake is wonderful for swimming, boating, water skiing or just relaxing. This is the one of the nicest lakes that I have ever been to. We had a great time swimming in the lake every morning and exploring the lake in a boat. There are many hiking trails near Mount Battie that are fun to hike and have spectacular views of the ocean. The town of Camden is a great place for relaxed shopping and to eat at the many small restaurants. We enjoyed fresh lobster many nights which is easily available from the local Lobstermen.

Perfect cottage right on lake Megunticook

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has all the charm one could want right on the lake. The lake is just a few steps away from the house and sitting on the dock is so peaceful listening to the loons. Our kids enjoyed jumping off the dock into the lake and using the kayaks. The cottage had everything we needed and was just so comfortable after a day on the lake. Downtown Camden is only a short drive away as are really nice hiking trails. We loved our time here and look forward to returning in the future!

Great Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

This well maintained cottage was super clean and had all of the amenities you would want in a summer vacation rental. The outside deck and dock were used all week long, both with great views of the lake. We brought our bass boat with us and enjoyed good fishing! Had a few great meals at the cottage and when we wanted to go to downtown Camden or even Rockland, it was a short ride with lots to do. The owner was easy to reach and very accommodating. Relaxing week with family!!!

Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I travel to Maine every summer, and always stay here. Not only is Camden the perfect location - truly where the mountains meet the sea - but the cabin itself is a fantastic mix of rustic charm and modern conveniences. The proximity to the lake makes the leisure time activities and views truly unparalleled. In short, I love it here!

Excellent spot, so-so cabin

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our lovely week at this cottage, it is in a wonderful spot on the lake and has a nice little dock to swim from. However, we were not aware at the time of rental that there is no potable water at the cottage. This was not too big a deal but wasn't a pleasant surprise. It would have been better to make that obvious in the listing. Otherwise the cottage is obviously well lived in, with old fittings and furnishings - again the degree of age was not obvious from the listing. It was a fine place to stay in a great spot; we would have appreciated fuller disclosure in the listing.

Owner's Response: Although the water is not potable, all plumbing fixtures for the bathrooms, kitchen (including the dishwasher) function as normal. Bottled water can be brought in.
