Breathtaking Views, Amazing Memories

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a spectacular week this summer with our four children, ranging in ages from 5 to 15. I could not have been happier, and can not imagine anyone walking away from this beautiful property dissatisfied. We've been on many vacations and stayed many, many places. This ranks near or at the top of our list for time we've spent together and places we've stayed. This lake home is beautifully appointed, smartly designed, and there wasn't one thing that I brought that wasn't already provided by the owners. Tranquil walks in the woods, endless hours on the lake fishing, swimming, or just taking a relaxing cruise were how we spent our time in Hillman. In a world filled with electronic distractions, our "unplugged" (although not necessary if you don't want to be unplugged, as wireless services and cable are provided) week enjoying the company of one another in a beautiful setting was exactly what we were looking for.

The home is beautiful. The location, and in particular the setting of this home on the lake, is amazing. If you are hesitating at all, don't. We will be back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Brian for your extraordinarily positive comments! You have highlighted exactly what we strive to provide for our guests. You bring up a good point about bringing things with you that you later found out we had already provided. We encourage future guests to read our detailed property description or reach out to us about everything we provide before packing. Of course your family is welcome as our guests again!

Homerun Property

  • 5 of 5

My husband, adult son and I spent 4 glorious days in early March at this home. Even with the lake still frozen, the physical beauty of the natural surroundings was breathtaking and we spent most of our time soaking it in while we relaxed in the peace and beauty of the surroundings. The home is privately nestled in a nature and wildlife rich setting and perched just high enough on the lake to see almost the whole lake. We loved the luxurious master suite and the over the top views and massive amount of natural daylight. We cannot wait to return to this lake during the summer months to spend time IN and ON the lake. We checked out a few awesome restaurants in Alpena, thanks to the recommendations of the owners. The house was extremely well furnished, with every detail thought of and provided for. Our dealings with the owners were a pleasure throughout the process and we found their input and suggestions very valuable. We will be rebooking soon.

A stunning property on a very pretty lake

  • 4 of 5

This house was very well equipped for an outdorsey life on the lake. The view from the living room is the best we have ever had in a holiday house.

My husband and I are Michigan natives, but retired to Florida years ago. During a recent trip to visit friends in Michigan, we booked this unforgettable vacation paradise for 3 days. We are now in our seventies and have never experienced a short vacation as pleasant and peaceful as this beautiful home on such a pristine lake. We fell in love with the daily serenade of the loons and the clarity and beauty of the water in this lake. The owners were so accommodating to our particular needs. We plan to pencil this great place in for future visits to Michigan and include a couple of more family members in the future.

2nd Stay At This Gem

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd consecutive year staying at Mike and Mary's Long Lake home. We were so very glad to find out that they had put off selling their home for the time being. We were able to book in May, as we did last year, but for a whole week this time. As before, the weather was good, and the home was even better! We have never dealt with more helpful and friendly owners. Mike and Mary sent the clear message in all of our interaction with them that they were genuinely concerned about us and the quality of our hard earned vacation!

We again enjoyed fishing, kayaking, pontooning, being serenaded by the loons, enjoying the local natural attractions of this beautiful area, and mostly just deeply relaxing in the magnificent setting of this beautiful home. Hard to imagine a more beautiful and peaceful time. Thank you once again for a truly memorable family retreat. We are hopeful for a return trip next May.

Relaxing and Memorable Family Vacation -- Beauty of Nature Surrounds You

  • 5 of 5

Our family truly enjoyed our week on Long Lake. We never wanted to leave the deck which was surrounded by natural beauty and offered spectacular views of the lake, glorious sunrises and sunsets, and beautiful calls from the loons. We loved having the hummingbirds come to the window feeder everyday.

The house was beautiful, extremely clean and had a well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms and living areas were spacious and comfortable. The indoor ping pong table, outdoor games, kayaks and pontoon were great amenities. The fishing was fantastic and swimming was great in one of the cleanest lakes around. We spent a day touring the shipwreck museum in nearby Alpena along with three lighthouses. We saw elk, deer, and even a red fox!

Mike and Mary were wonderful to work with. Their kindness and constant availability to us helped to create very special memories for our family. We will definitely be back!
