Welcome to Tir Na N'og, “Land of the forever young”, a luxurious beachfront estate on 10 secluded acres of gardens and walkways. Tir Na Nog includes a spectacular private beach, manicured grounds surrounded by coconut palms, flowers, fruit trees, and a private tennis court.
Tir Na No’g was built in 2007 by local carpenters and craftsmen under the vision of famed interior decorator David Flint Wood. Decorated in the elegant style of an old Caribbean plantation house, the four separate housing structures allow for bedroom privacy, along with group dining and socializing in the Great Hall and surrounding patios. The estate is rented to only one group at a time, and all structures are included in the weekly rate.
Tir Na Nog is situated in the most sought-after location on Eleuthera, the Atlantic seashore on the Banks Road, where a select number of estates overlook a beautiful pink-sand beach, only minutes from nearby restaurants. The buildings on the estate include:
1. THE GREAT HALL: This elegant colonial-style building, surrounded by a large, wrap-around porch with sweeping views of the estate, is the gathering place for fine dining, relaxation and entertaining. The Great Hall features a full kitchen and large dining area with seating for 12. The spacious living/entertainment area, elegantly furnished in old plantation style, includes a large flat-screen satellite TV, DVD movie library, books for children and adults, and board games. The Great Hall also has a breezy outdoor dining area with a gas grill, and a roof deck with views of the ocean.
2. THE MAIN HOUSE: This lovely colonial building features another large wrap-around porch with views of the tennis court and gardens. Inside are three bedrooms, each with a full en-suite bathroom and separate entrance from the porch. Two of the bedrooms have king beds. The third has twin beds with two additional trundle beds. The bedrooms in the main house do not connect internally, so you must walk out onto the wrap-around veranda to go from one bedroom to another.
3. THE BEACH COTTAGES: These two romantic cottages with views of the ocean have king bedrooms with full bathrooms, under-counter refrigerators, coffee makers, and outdoor seating areas with deck chairs. They are located 100 yards from the Main House and Great Hall for privacy.
4. THE TIKI HUT: This beachside, open-air shelter has shady seating under a thatched roof. The nearby Cabana has outdoor showers and a storage room housing beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, and beach toys.
5. THE TENNIS PAVILION provides shady seating on white wicker furniture beside the tennis court. The pavilion is fully equipped with tennis rackets and balls. It also contains a laundry room with washer and dryer.
MORNING MAID SERVICE (every weekday except holidays) and on-site caretaker are complimentary at Tir Na N’og. A private chef can be arranged.
A VAST REEF just 300 meters offshore ensures idyllic kayaking and snorkeling conditions for anyone staying at Tir Na N'og. We have plenty of snorkeling gear, as well as beach recliners and water loungers for those of us who prefer to spend the day taking in the sun. Kayaks can be rented for use during your stay. We also have a baby monitor, pack and play crib, and kids’ beach toys for those traveling with children.
THE FAMOUS BEACH RESTAURANT AND BAR Tippy’s is just a ten-minute walk down the beach. Other upscale restaurants within easy driving distance include The Beach House, The Bistro at Sky Beach Club, and Cocodimama. The town of Governors Harbour, just two miles away, has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Tir Na N'og is a place where you can truly find serenity, and take some time for yourself.
I bought Tir Na N'og in 2007, and had it renovated and decorated by renowned interior designer and author of the book 'Island Living', David Flint Wood. The 10 acre estate is situated on an old plantation, and its heritage is reflected in the all of the buildings and furnishings.
Eleuthera means 'freedom' in Greek, and this Island which has managed to escape the mass development which has occurred in most of the Bahamas, really does give you a sense of relief.
Took six college kids for mellow spring break. They loved it. Short walk to Tippy's for some beer and music. All in all a great experience.
Our second visit to this property. Always a pleasure working with Matt Simon, and we find the property great for seclusion. We are active cooks so the setup is perfect.
Also recommend Al Curry with Ocean Fox for diving, fishing, day on the water.
We had never been to the Bahamas and went off a recommendation to try one of the quieter islands. We cannot wait to go back. The home and property was just unreal. So quiet. So private. So beautiful. We had so much fun at the beach. In one week we maybe saw 5 people! We had a day trip to Harbour Island and loved it. We had a tour with Fishbone Tours that we all really enjoyed! I would say it is a must do. We truly enjoyed the quiet times at the beach. Relaxing. We had a chef come to the home a few nights and that was well worth it! The local restaurants were all fantastic and we were sad when our trip was over...hope to make it back to the island again. The locals were all so friendly and helpful and we feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be there.
Our family was lucky enough to spend the two weeks over Christmas and New Year's at Tir Na Nog. We were a group of nine, two 70+, two 40-something couples, and three girls 11-13. We found the multi-building layout of this property to be ideal for our group. We all felt we had privacy, all of the rooms were beautiful and we loved gathering in the great hall. It was so nice for early risers to go make coffee and not worry about disturbing anyone. The grounds of this property are amazing, so lush and so well taken care of. The beach is, in my opinion, the best part of the property, and where we spent most of our time. The water was so beautiful and so nice for swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding and kayaking. The pictures here don't do it justice. The Tiki hut is a great addition to the property. We would bring lunch down and would usually end the late afternoon having drinks and playing cards in the Tiki Hut. We felt Tir Na Nog was also in a premier location on the island. We loved being able to walk down the beach to Tippy's, or the Beach House in the other direction. Also the proximity to Governor's Harbor and the amenities there is a huge plus! Being in the middle of the island is also convenient for exploring the rest of the island--which we did, from tip to tip, but our own beach was our favorite!
Highly recommend hiring a chef--we did for 4 nights and it was great! We loved Tir na Nog and Eleuthera and hope to be back. If you want to do a lot of snorkeling I would bring your own equipment--the equipment provided was in rough shape and there was not much of it ( maybe 2 masks when we were there). Same for tennis equipment.
We (my wife, 5 year old son & myself) rented Tir Na Nog for two weeks in Late January, early February. My wife's family joined us the 1st week and my family joined us the 2nd week. Our entire experience was exceptional. The layout of the property is ideal for finding your own space if needed/wanted and the great room is perfect for gathering. If you are looking for peace, quiet and privacy Tir Na Nog is for you. Added bonus is the natural beauty of the island and the exceptional quality of the property.
Every part of our stay at Tír na nÓg was outstanding. Before arriving, during our stay, and even after we returned home my service expectations were far exceeded.
We explored Eleuthera from top to bottom and can confirm what others have already said - the beach and plantation setting of Tír na nÓg can’t be beat! You can wake to a glorious sunrise over an expanse of swaying palm trees, take a short walk to the Great Room for breakfast, stroll down to the beachfront cabana for a long pink sand beach walk, swim in the warm crystal clear reef protected bay, BBQ lunch on the Great Room veranda, crack a fresh coconut, snorkel over healthy reefs right off the beach, boogie board at high tide, play tennis, then save your driving for the short trip to Tippy’s for dinner (or even better, hire your own local chef and dine in!).
Kelly and Christine took fabulous care of both the house and us every day of our stay. If a private, peaceful and spectacularly beautiful Bahamian Out Island adventure is what you’re looking for, I couldn’t recommend Tír na nÓg more highly. Enjoy!
Top tip – bring a suitcase of your favorite foods/snacks/wine.
Tir Na N'og is situated on the Atlantic side of the Island, directly on the beach. There is a reef just 300 meters off shore which shelters the beach and the waters ensuring perfect swimming, snorkeling and kayaking conditions for all guests.
Two of the best restaurants in the area are also located just a short walk down the beach.
